I was in full time service (fool time service really) for 30 yrs. Always broke, always having a broken down car without A.C. and worn our clothes. Always depending onthe compassion of brothers to eat. This is NOT a happy life!!! The Watchtower Corporation leaders make you feel guilty for trying to improve your finances and secular education. They need you to be broke, dumb and stupid. When I woke up and turned in all my "privileges", I was able to finish my education, start a business and live financially well. I now travel alot, have hobbies, eat anywhere I want, always fill the gas tank, give to charity, and have a car with A.C.!! I no longer have low self esteem and anxiety. That's the reason why I left the organisation. Growing up, in South Africa, I saw the effects of apartheid on my parents. Father had to quit his job as a government police officer in 1977, the year I was born. He left, because working for a state security then as a black man, was regarded as spy or state agent among anti apartheid activist. It was dangerous, for his life and his family, as he could have been killed or our family home could have been torched with fire by anti apartheid activists in our community. He left his work and accepted the "truth" in the early 1980s. Armed only with Grade 7 primary education, as it was common with that generation, I saw him struggling to provide for his family. Mother with Grade 7 education, ended up having to work for some Jewish families in Johannesburg as a cleaner. After completing high school in 1995, I insisted on pursuing university education. Elders in our congregation had issues with my career goal. Thanks, God there were free government bursaries, that paid towards my education. After completing bachelors honours, I worked for government. It became an issue in the congregation, I was seen as a bad example among young brothers and sisters. I got an opportunity to work for the state in Japan. When, I arrived there I was surprised to see how developed Japan is and large pull of the middle class. I associated with a Japanese congregation. I was surprised to see many Japanese brothers struggling econimically. Others with university education, opted pioneering. In that congratulations, 90% of publishers were full time pioneers. I visited some brothers in Seoul, South Korea one summer holidays, it was the same thing. Everyone, was a pioneer. One elder could not understand why I should go on a vacation instead of doing field service. Back in Japan, I travelling overseer told me on my face that I should return to South Africa and use my talents in full-time service. Out of frustration and disappointment, I went to a local university, enrolled for Masters degree, when my contract ended I returned home and got a good offer. I last attended JW meetings in the Spring ( May ) of 2010. I never returned to the organisation. My parents are in their 80s and late 70s. I am taking care of them, financially. Yes, they receive social security, but with this inflation, it is not enough to cover their medical bill and other essential needs. Had, I listened to the WatchTown with it's teachings, where would I be, with my parents aging situation?

If they keep you poor, you can't take them to court. When you work for them, there is no health insurance, no Social Security, no 401K, no life insurance, no long-term disability insurance, and no short-term disability insurance. McDonald's has a better benefits plan than Watchtower. The salary is barely anything. Basically, it was a slave labor camp. Legally, they get away with this due to a vow of poverty. But, Watchtower can pay 100s of millions of dollars on commercial real estate. Then, when some of their slaves leave after a year, the Governing Body questions why they are leaving. There needs to be legal pushback on this. It is disgusting!

I can’t tell u how many opportunities I turned down. One of my most bitter moments was as an elder finding out all of it was b.s & how I wasted 30 yrs of missed opportunities. Fortunately I’m young enough to rebound & restart. However, one thing to note: WT for sure care about donations. They care about all $$. Yes, they’ve transitioned from a book publishing to a conglomerate real estate business, but they absolutely tax their members. I say this as a former COBE, Secretary, and Account Servant at both the Circuit & Congregational levels. Several yrs ago, as donations were fleeting, the GB “suggested” annual dedicated donations per congregation across the world. Those “suggested” donations were between $6.75-9.00+/baptized publisher (which includes baptized children). These “suggestions” r voted up upon, but these votes are mere formalities only. These are imposed, which also include taking care of Circuit Overseer’s needs. These donations are 100% guaranteed, + the constant “reminder” to donate & making ppl feel guilty for not donating, & u have a recipe for financial success.

@@DiffiCULTChildhood I’ve known several JWs over the years. I don’t agree with a lot of their beliefs, but I understand their desire to do God’s work. Plus, I can appreciate how difficult it would be to come from being brainwashed to having your entire world view turned upside down. That happens to everyone on some level when we’re forced out of the sphere our families form around us. My family did a decent job preparing me for that stage. I wanted to do the same for this kid. After I attended a couple things at the family’s Kingdom Hall, I realized that if someone didn’t invite him to ask the major questions, the religion would do him a huge disservice in the future. Especially if he married and couldn’t trust himself to make decisions for himself and his family. The organization was giving him the answers one spoonful at a time. When it was MY turn to drive, I would tell my 'brothers & sisters' to keep their money, it's my pleasure & devoted to Jehovah. This didn't bring me closer to them, it made them angry or jealous. THEN, I was df & went to a trade school, earned some degrees on top of it & returned after 9/11 scared the crap out of me. After reinstatement, I was out in services as much as possible & said "You know, we're just passing the same dollars back & forth." I was never a popular sister. I asked questions, I searched for my own answers, but I also expected the elders or their wives to help. They couldn't because they had no idea. I watched my parents who as myself, an immigrant, struggle financially. Because they didn't buy me much I started working at age 13 in a dental office. I never subscribed to JW as my parents joined a different Charles Taze Russell organization where everyone was well off. So I grew up in that. I didn't want to go to college because I was introduced to dental technology at a young age. I went to school for it, worked several jobs and ended up having my own business. I bought my own house as my father disinherited me. I am retired, live comfortably, pay bills and house is paid for because something deep inside told me being a JW was not working for God but for men whose position glorified their personal pride. These people don't read the real Bible, they pick and choose which scriptures support their agenda, and dismiss the rich characters in the Bible who were blessed and had much to offer. JW's use their own interpretation of the Bible, which is poor, corrupt and distorted. God gave people common sense and their job is to strip it away. Evil satanic organization that used religion to push their personal power agenda, ruining people's lives, robbing them of personal prosperity leaving people needy, dependent and disfunctional. It's for the lazy and the spoon fed but don't realize the good runs out when they limit their potential. It should be none of JW organization's business what job or career people choose to fit the gifts God gave them. They use guilt, fear and intimidation to manipulate people into being their slaves, and people fall for it. Such a shame.

I guess I was a "silver spoon" JDubber growing up. My Dad was an executive for Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria, Illinois. We lived in a beautiful home. Dad always drove high end Buicks or Cadillacs. Those folks in our congregation that were poor were jealous of us and wouldn't socialize and others were always kissing up to Dad looking for a handout. Mom had 3 mink coats but would never wear them to the Kingdom Hall. One was an $9k coat and when she died we found $1800. In the pockets. Dad had been a congregation overseer and an elder until he passed away at 97yrs old. My brother and I worked physically demanding grunt level jobs until we both retired. My grandmother wanted us to attend college at the University of Illinois where she had sent my Dad. Dad and Mom both opposed the idea. We both married Witness girls and both were unfaithful. I walked away from the Jdubbs after that and searched for Jesus until I found Him at age 55. The saddest part of my life as a JW was having 4 daughters that today won't talk to me because I'm an apostate.

What I can do is share my story in the hopes someone out there might escape the organization with their free will intact so they can find the same peace & true joy that I feel. (Because it's an amazing feeling to wake up to every day!) Thank you again 😊 -Falon

Thank you Falon for your thoughtful and refreshing response. I do not think we need to know all the factors that made a person to turn his back on God to understand him. For me, it betrays a lack of spirituality. It highlights the fact that there was no fear of God In the individual, in the first place. His being there was possibly only window dressing. The true mettle of an individual is marked by the unpleasant events in his life and how he reacts to it. To throw away your faith in God because of nine heartless and self-serving individuals who would defend and protect their interests at the cost of the suffering of millions, strikes me as pathetic. I was raised in the religion. Spent more than 40 years in it. Sacrificed everything and was hurt and beaten in every way imaginable. However, I have come to understand that God was not there in the first place and I'm determined to find him. And I think I have. I think of the organization with great revulsion because it has ruined countless lives at the expense of its own interest. When a person chooses to abandon God, his condition becomes worse than the organization it criticizes.

I am Catholic, in our parish students sitting for their final Year 12 are asked to stand so they could be blessed to their well in their exams so that they can gain good entries to universities. Further education is encouraged. All of my three of my children have double degrees and well paid jobs, my youngest is now studying her second degree, Psychology, and moved back home so she can focus on her studies whilst working part-time.

The WT conducter at my old hall would be up on the podium preaching about how we should strive to live simple and not try to pursue money or careers. Meanwhile he owns a multi million dollar construction company with 3 locations around the state and takes international trips twice a year. His wife takes her Louis Vuitton bags in service, mind you to the poorest of territories and sees no issue with it.

15:00 your father on call? busting my gut laughing. Like loyal Uriah who gets his wife screwed by the GB king David, and then killed deliberately. The millionaire poor-to-rich JW janitor service here in Kenosha; their mother left during meetings all the time for it. Yes for their own self-made janitor service, left meeting to go do it. They would change clothes in the Hall bathroom during the meeting. Or say they got the talk lecture (and their WT is already studied). They must have known exactly how to interpret that WT article so as not to be there with the rest of us. In fact Jehovah gave my very own bible study to me (versus those handed to me by mom; the children of her own study) because the man walked in, and Mizz Elderette Janitor handed him a WT on her way out (mid meeting janitor appt); 3 days later all by chance my calling on THEIR house starting a study with the whole family on Wednesday. No one in my Hall thought i should teach MY VERSION of Jehovah, but typical JW nosing they all got baptized waiting for hubby/daddy to drop dead at armageddon for his tempor (though always there together as family), and when wife threw hubby out all were DFd. Hubby came back with new wife and fathered a new family. He died before mom did in 2020. Point is Elderette acted like she brought him in handing a mag while she goes out to run her janitor service of OTHER JWs not at the meeting because theyll go (they say) to the other later meeting. It's all games. Reminds me of my neighbor who skipped the scan at WalMart and said he's pay for it next week (if Jesus doesnt come before then because he's getting raptured and asks everyone else if theyre right with God).
@thecommentor10646 ай бұрын
You need to be corrected, it is not the self analysis that kills (though it can) it is being analyzed BY THE OTHERS (their opinon of you; which is hen-pecked to death). They are told to be a refreshing rain, and their mothering-smothering is actually pelting hail that kills you; and then narcissism scapegoat gaslighting takes over to say to you (and to Job) it is your own doing. Lastly like the trinity or triad of 3 Elders there to DF sick Job, they will blame Satan, not themselves abusing you.

JW's who do well, were doing well before they drank the JW kool-aid. They got use to a level of affluence and see no reason to give that up. And congregations often depend on their wealthier members from time to time so they also enjoy the elevated status.

You blew my mind I knew about building Kingdom Halls and how they use the sheeple to do that but I had never heard of this. Now to be fair I left when I was 20 the appeal of the wife was way more enticing then believing in fiction. But it all makes more sense. They were grooming me to do this saying I should learn how to build things cause I was good at it. And jehovah could use a builder in his congregation.

On the actual survey they are the least educated even below Pentacostals. Hindus are at the top of the list. The more education the more per hour one gets in many cases. Real estate coursework used to get a good paycheck without a lot of education, that ship may have sailed. Nurses make more than some doctors as they do not have private office costs and malpractice insurance costs. In JW land the electrician and plumber are king! Most parents would have bragged on me, I got an education and I am retired. JW land is it's own thing. Sometimes the sisters get college to be an accountant and just do not talk about it.

You are certainly welcome to believe and profess whatever you want to believe, there are plenty of differing beliefs in the world today based on the Bible, just pick one. But to glean this from the historically decidedly Catholic Trinitarian book is just plain frivolous… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, - the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, - the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books, and ONLY the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, - not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. Therefore, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church, guided by the Holy Spirit, that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 4th century, just 65 years AFTER the council of Nicaea which began the Trinitarian doctrine and subsequent councils of Ephesus and Chalcedon, and preserved these scriptures by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself? Peace!!!
