brother I am so thankful I watched this video. I ship for ITC Catterick in two weeks with the hope of joining either The Royal Reg of Scotland or the Rifles. I have done my due diligence in terms of smashing the phys, doing some prior learning and preparation, although I am fully aware the shock of capture will be real. I was very happy to hear people have completed full degrees while serving, since this is also what my plan is (already got the majority of modules done, so if everything is fine I'll transfer credits with the Open Uni). I would have gone to Sandhurst but I'm above the cut off age. If it all works, I'll definitely try Late Entry officer down the line. But not gonna lie I am shitting myself. Big life change. Pray for me y'all and most definitely keep up the good work with the channel.

I know it may sound like a silly question, but I can't find a lot of info on what that specific role entails . For obvious reasons I don't think I'd join infantry , as putting it bluntly, I'd like to keep my arms and legs. I admire so much the brave men that do join Infantry though. But don't think it's the right place for a woman. Not sure. It all just depends if all deployments involve close combat etc ? Any advice would be appreciated
@big_slurp460311 ай бұрын
I was a gunner with the RA in the reserves before going regs. A lot of the focus on Arty now is mobility eg. getting the gun out where it needs to be, lobbing shells and f*cking off before the enemy lob shells or drones back at you - which is the strategy used in Ukraine by their arty currently. As a gunner you're basically just working within your team to do what you need to do, in Phase 2 you will learn all the roles and then once your fully trained you will have your position in the team - could be loading the shells, plunging them - whatever, either way you're going to be shifting it about like mad with your team. If you really are scared of potential combat (and tbf if a gun bunny is in the thick of frontline combat, something has gone terribly wrong - but I imagine it *could* happen!) you could look at being in the command post (CP), communicating with OPs within the Royal Artillery who are basically spotters that go out with the infantry and spot targets for you which you then in turn work out all the maths, position and all that jazz and feed the info to the gunners on the guns who will fire on the targets. Also, don't let being a woman deter you. In my reserve battery, there were five foot nothing women from various age ranges who were better than some of the lads. Take what I say with a grain of salt, I was only a part timer after all and Royal Artillery isn't my cap badge, but I absorbed everything I knew from bloody good leadership who themselves were ex-regulars.

One of the main things I hear about Infantry, is that there aren't as many options for learning a trade as there is in other areas of the army. I'm working on becoming a Sapper, because I like the idea of having a trade when I come out. If I'm incorrect about this, please correct me, because I love the idea of being in amongst it with the infantry aswell.
@Rangermedia4 жыл бұрын
With regards to trades like joinery, bricklaying etc they would all be down the engineer route. You can get stuff from the Infantry but the trades you are on about arnt available. Infantry give yous the time and confidence to look at other opportunities to better yourself but these would be 70% of the time in your own time. Where as joinery for example would be done as your actually job if you where in the engineers. In short, the normally trades you would think of are not in the Infantry however there’s still opportunities for quals to set you up outside the Army, will just need more work.
