The Gulf kingdom is accused of investing in sport and using high-profile events to 'sports wash' its reputation in other parts of the world.

Litterally didn’t have any of this controversy around F1 etc and other events hosted in this country. The World Cup has actual human rights directly associated with the build up to event and has hardly been spoken about. It is quite common for independent contractors to have work restrictions while they are working for their "contractor" and also for a year or two after their job ends (depending on the circumstances - unless they live in a liberal anti-business state like California that prohibits enforcement of such a restrictive covenant. Also, the players are tour members that aside from agreeing to contractual restrictions , they are aside from being an independent contractor, they are also your members that agreed to and are technically part of the rule making process. Restrictive work covenants (depending on circumstances) are quite common in independent contractor relationships. Freedom of contract which is a free market principle, none of the players had to sign their tour contracts or agree to the tour rules when they joined...Too many misinformed fans....

The PGA made it possible for people like Michelson to amass over 100 million in purse winnings and over 800 million in endorsements (according to Forbes). Dustin Johnson is not far behind with 40.8 million in one year. It seems like honoring your word and loyalty are becoming a thing of the past.

There's room for more than one and if America is the land of the Free what does it say about us that we are restricting and or penalizing citizens for personal choices. America is still working and dealing with the Saudi s. But we draw the line at golf? It's controversial but having them get used to people with more freedoms may be a good shift in their country. And it seems a little suspicious that the PGA is pushing this narrative given they monopolies the sport, money talks.

@@marty2970 I hear your point. I don't think the people leading the PGA are exactly innocent. They could have done lots more to support the "up coming" players who are trying to make it on the tour. New golfers usually don't get funding and sponsors until they start winning which is a lot of financial pressure. Respectfully, I don't exactly agree with your point nor Greg Norman's that somehow golf is going to change shady resources. Instead, I think it will only change us. We tried this with China, thinking that capitalism and the example of the American dream would somehow transform their government. In the end, it only transformed us. They lured manufacturing away with lucrative deals, stole many copyrights and put tens of thousands out of work. Thus, we now depend on them for the majority of our goods and have made them exceedingly powerful beyond their borders and now threatening others. They own our debt, and in part, they own us. No, I think we may be seeing the beginning of a repeat of turning a blind eye to wrong doing which will be ignored. "The love of money is a root to all kinds of evil."

I was against this at first but now that I think about it, I’m a huge snooker fan and if it wasn’t for their China events, the game wouldn’t be anywhere near as big and exciting as it is now.
