great review.. the 16gb/512gb was 1399 last week on Amazon and BestBuy pricematched it for me.. it's 1449 now but it's changing all the time. The 16gb/256gb variant is 1299 so that's not bad if someone has a hard budget.

It is always funny how KZbinrs say base MBA "are just for students or people doing light photo or video editing and some mailing on the go " Sorry but this how 90% of the population use their laptops. Unless you work in a music production or movie production you definitely don´t need the power of M pro or M Max series those machines are for very very specific work. As an artist I have enough power with my base M2 and sometimes you even feel lost with such a powerful machines. So my advice buy following your needs and not following the hype. My nexrt laptop purchase would be a M5 - M6 16bg MBA. Art is not the machine you use but the creativity you have🙏🙏

Here’s the thing. I’m not gonna recommend you a laptop that’ll last you one to two years. Software updates happen. Throttling the system WILL happen. And as more apps use more resources years after your purchase, I want to make sure people who buy these laptops (which are not cheap by any means) gets their moneys worth. Sure M1 is fast enough for 85% of people. But what if you just purchase the M3 now and you’ll be good down the road??

As an indie game dev using Unity my current laptop fluctuates between 5 and 7 GB used with just Unity and 2-3chrome tabs open. Now mind you Unity isn’t native to MacOS so it’s already gonna run weird to an extent. 8GB is technically not enough to create a basic 2D game? Again, Pathetic, and for $1100 no less.

If the MBA throttles after a while under heavy load, then benchmarks are useless unless you do them twice, once before and once after the processor heats up. Or maybe a benchmark that runs for a longer period of time.

I have a base 13 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. And am considering a 15 inch MacBook m3 16gb with 500-1000gb storage. Would this be considered an upgrade? I really desire the extra screen space for writing papers.

Yes, good choice if you need more screen area. 15" Air is still not that heavy, less than 14" MBP. Also go for 16/512, and you are set for the next 4-5 years or more... If you prefer portability, even AIR 13.6" is fine. Little bit more screen area compared to 13.3 MBP (height of status bar gained) and it is lightest AIR since ever.

Definitely a worthy upgrade. Get the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD combo if you want to keep the laptop for 4+ years. It’ll be worth it.

You can return the M2 MacBook Air if you JUST purchased it yesterday, and buy the M3 Air for a bit more money, but the upgrades overall will be better not just SSD speeds. You can still buy external SSD's like Samsung T7/T9 and store files on it and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to run applications off an external SSD's. It might hinder performance.

If you’re not doing tons of video editing or software development work, I’d go with the M2 and use the $ you save by not buying the M3 to upgrade the RAM to 16GB. You’d get more value out of doing that than you would by getting the M3. And yes, that would see you through school.

Not that I’ve noticed yet. But if you’re coming from M3 Max or even M3 Pro like me, you’ll notice it is *slightly* bit slower… but that’s okay! The lightweight design is great and it’s still very fast.

There will most certainly be stutters here and there IF you push this laptop to do heavy intensive tasks. Yup there are PC's that can absolutely do up to 6500MB/s with PCIE GEN 4/5 and while M3 Air can't get up to 6000MB/s yet, the M3 Pro/M3 Max with 1TB or higher can for sure (I've tested it with my own M3 Max).

When you’re on a call there should be a yellow microphone icon on the menu bar near the notch and you just click it and switch to voice isolation.

2:46 wow. Zero background noise.. I wish there was Voice Isolation into more third party apps.. It doesn't matter how much Apple people pay for their machines, they'll still find ways to drop it. I do like the way Apple's created their own "issue" by fanless... Now every single person when reviewer has to make sure everyone knows "this is fanless and may get warm/hot", something that was unheard of before... No matter how may times i hear that, i still think being 'fanless Mac" is a market gimmick.. Thumbing their nose to Intel and saying "Look what we can do" That all it is... Its good that Apple can prove something, but by doing so, they set themselves up for this saying.

M3 MacBook Air! But it really depends on what you do and what you want. iPad has so many apps available and 'can' be a computer. But if you see yourself on a proper computer more, the M3 Air is a solid choice.

You can probably go the M2 Air route with 16GB IF you're getting at least 512GB SSD. The SSD's on M2 if lower than 512GB SSD is a little slow for 2024.

Hows the performance of the Air in Lightroom Classic ?? An Event Photographers usage of 500-1000 photos, scrolling through them, editing, puting presets, etc .. Does it not lag ?? Or should I really go with a Pro 14 ?? The reason I'm asking is because I have a Desktop at home but I need an on the go laptop to lug around with me from house to office to coffee shop to be able to finish editing photos anytime anywhere .. I know import & exports times are faster in the Pro 14 but I can do that in my Desktop through my external ssd and just purely edit in the Air and do the export when I get home at my Desktop .. What's important is if the Air can handle editing large batch of photos without hiccups or lags ..

I'm not a Lightroom Classic guy, more of a casual Lightroom CC/Mobile kind of guy and don't handle nearly enough photos on a daily basis as you do, but you might want to go for the 14-inch M3 Pro for your workload. That way you'll have similar performance as your desktop, if not better.

It’s NOT at all perfect. It is a complete ripoff…. As ALL the M based Airs are. Paying that much for a laptop without active cooling is absurd. Look at how much more Apple demands you fork over, just to get such a basic addition, that most other laptops in that price range have. Hell! Even the old Intel i5 Airs, had a fan, and still were at that $1000 price target… Apple is literally ripping everyone off. The Air is a value EXTRACTION product for Apple. Not a value provider. The old “pro” version of the Air, that Apple dropped after the M2, should be the low end standard.

That should be plenty enough for software development work. I’m not sure how intense your workflow is but that should do it. Only concern is SSD, I’d go at least 1TB
