HiddenXperia ain't wrong, though. John isn't merely a major character of Halo, he IS Halo. While there are other stories are that can be told in the Halo universe, but John 117 must always have a presence within this universe. Whether it be his enemy turned ally to stop zealots from nuking the Milky Way (Arbiter), a group of ODSTs trying get out after dealing a battle that the Master Chief took part in (Alpha-Nine), or a team of Spartan IIIs, soldiers viewed as the poor man's version of the Spartan II counterparts, sending humanity's greatest hope out of a FUBAR warzone (Noble Team); John 117 has, and arguably NEEDS, to have a presence in the Halo Universe for the series to flourish.

In my opinion, this would be a great way to end Chief's story: You (playing Chief) are on a Forerunner space station, bringing Cortana's chip, carrying vital intelligence to the survival of Earth, to the life pods. You reach the objective, and a cutscene plays. Chief puts Cortana into the life pod as enemies close in from all sides, he starts firing round after round into the horde of enemies, thinning them, but more keep coming. Chief keeps firing, but eventually, he runs out of ammo and is tackled to the ground, but he manages to fight them off and get back up. He steps back and slams his fist into the launch button, the life pod prepares to eject, as the camera shows Cortana watching Chief through the window of the pod. As the life pod is sent hurtling through space toward a waiting UNSC carrier, Chief faces the horde with nothing but his combat knife. As the carrier picks up Cortana's pod, the game ends, and the credits roll. After the credits roll, we see Chief, laying, seemingly dead, among the corpses of his adversaries. The camera pans over his body, his armor is dented and scarred, his visor is cracked. The camera moves over his hand, and just before the screen goes black, his fingers twitch.

I think that if they were to have chief die though. I would say there best bet is to either bring him back possibly with the in universe time scale would be about 40 years and possibly he would remake his appearance to the world and maybe do a actor which very closely represents his halo 3 voice but maybe with a bit of age. Also maybe they could do a spinoff where he is younger and have it be chiefs version of the fall of reach and fully tie the game reach and the book into a legit view instead of some parts of they going against each other.

There’s this thing called the Beowulf idea in storytelling, that once the hero of the saga is dead, the saga itself becomes irrelevant. Example: Beowulf is one of the worlds oldest folk tales, we all know Beowulf but nobody remembers the guy who tried to replace him at the end.

The Beowulf principal is like a major guideline for any story teller to follow. That’s why Gears of war found a loop hole by not killing off Marcus and still being able to grow the story beyond his saga.

Playing as Chief, he’s just a supersoldier to me. No relations other than Cortana, no other interest other than the mission. But in my memory, Chief is the embodiment of “larger than life.” It’s weird how someone this down to Earth is so transcendent. Reminiscing about Chief brings me this weird awe, as if I’m remembering the time I once saw a real life legend. It’s kinda incredible how captivating the mythos around Chief has developed, making him live as a legendary figure in people’s mind. He almost doesn’t even feel real. “Wait, did I saw that guy back in the day, or was a he an urban myth?” It would completely break that illusion if he died. Thinking about it makes me wanna cheer “He can’t die, he’s _Chief_!” It would be the same kinda devastating feeling of watching your “heroes” fall from grace or indeed meet their end tragically. I don’t think people could play the previous Halo games the same anymore if Chief definitively got killed later on. It undermines the wonder of witnessing a legend, knowing he can fall. Chief cannot die because he’s too powerful (not mere physical power). He’s too powerful because Chief cannot be killed.

He met her again, now a marine, before the flood invaded earth, he knew it was her because she had a picture of them together but he couldnt obviously tell her it was him. So they just went back to planning the defense of the city from the brutes. Edit: parisa is her name, he saw her again in new mombosa. Depending on where she was stationed she could still be alive

Well Jerome could be a good idea to replace John and be the Protagonist of the Halo Universe but to me I'd rather pick Spartan Thorne from Majestic Squad I'd think to me he can replace John as well cause he and John are similar but different maybe to me he can be a better choice to replace John and be the next Protagonist of the series.

Returning to this video again after 7 months and loving it. It might be interesting if they decided to recast him and explain the voice change in the lore. Maybe he is transformed by some Forerunner tech into an immortal being, which changes his body and voice. It could also be cool if he ends up retiring and becomes an advisor for new soldiers like a lot special forces do. In this way he could be phased out as a major character but still exist in the lore and could be in books and make cameo appearances. Maybe we could see him interact with a new character, mentoring and training the next major protagonist. Nevertheless, the idea of Master Chief just being MIA is still an excellent way to end his story. Maybe there could be a combination of all these and more. So many cool possibilities.

I would see the Halo series kinda doing what Marvel did after Endgame where you see the universe after the disappearance of the protagonist. After that I would make the Halo series be almost radio silent for a long time (10-20 years). And then Xbox would announce another game after that where it's the same universe but much different (like Halo 3-4 but with a much smoother transition).

Does anyone else notice how halo ce and h3 have a parallel ending. How during the cutscene cortana says "halo it's finished" and in h1 chief says "no I think we're just getting started". And in h3 chief says "it's finished". Maybe it's obvious to everyone but I never hear people talk about it other than the parallel between the trilogy begining and ending with chief in a cryo pod.

If and possibly they need another hero to fill in for Chief while he's gone - Jerome should seriously and be heavily considered. That dude is an absolute beast with a great personality that almost matches Chief, but has a personality that you can feel doesn't exactly feel like he's matching or trying to be him (if put in that situation.) When he pulls Isabelle from the Banished Assault Carrier - oh my frig did I get goosebumps from the one liners from him.
