The rape scene they were outraged over was when the Mexican mafia had guys rape the the Italian mafia guy's son. That would not happen with the Mexican mafia, not even to child molesters. They were also pissed about the scene when they killed their leader. Although it was said they made that scene because they were warned not to depict what really happened -- their biggest rival the nuestra familia killed him.
@chucktaylor824

The rape scene where Santana was raped was a no no as well. I think that was the main rape scene they were outraged about. There's no way a top ranked leader would ever even allow that to happen. But that Italian scene you're talking about is definitely no good because they were ther perpetrators. One of the MAIN rules of the Mexican Mafia is NO homosexuality.

What some people are not mentioning is that Olmos also portrayed the mother of the protagonist as a rape victim during the Zoot Suit riots. Which is the reason why his own father did not love him. This did not happen. If you ask me, this is way more offensive that portraying the protagonist as someone who was raped in Juvie. I know its all for cinematic effect, and the name was changed, but still THIS WAS A REAL PERSON. Portraying someones mother as a rape victim for your vanity project when it did not happen will be enough for ANYONE to want you dead. Also another audacity of Olmos is that he lied about getting the permission to make the movie. Again he was basing his movie on people that existed and some of them were still alive. In particular, he lied about consulting with the real Joe Pegleg Morgan about making the movie. Joe would have never approved the script. It was the time when Olmos was still riding high with his Oscar nomination.

There is no "leader" of the Mexican Mafia. All made members hold the same status..also Cheyenne cadena didn't get killed by his own men. He got killed by the nuestra familia.. he's the only EME member to be killed by another gang. He had requested to go to another prison so he could negotiate a peach between the NF and la EME. He did show amazing courage and didn't check in to PC or lock up in his cell..he faced his killers was stabbed 70 times and thrown off the fifth tier..he's a legend..and he was never raped in his prison career. He would havr been barred entry to la EME if that had happened to him.

Tony, this was a movie, nothing more. Fantasy with lights and sparkly stuff. Hollywood will NEVER produce an authentic totally realistic movie about prison. There's no money in it. If you've been there before, you don't need to see a movie. If you havent, its so easy nowadays to get locked up, you'll get first hand experience very quickly. You have half the movie boring, with smelly dudes burping & farting, watching tv, playing checkers, chess, or dominoes. The other half is terror, and brutality that no one really wants to pay money to watch. On a side note: back in the early 80's when I did my time, the cell door control gears were located in a covered steel box conduit above each cell running down the line and ending at the gears that roll the doors at the boss' picket (control cage). With a little "convict ingenuity" we were able to open those boxes, and rig the gear to "pop" the lock mechanism, and roll open the cell door. So, yes, if you need to get out of your cell, for whatever reason, there is a way. Now, this was early 70's/80's technology. After almost 40 years, they "probably" have upgraded their locking systems. Anyways, that was then. The old way before the 70's, the boss had a big brass key that would open each individual cell door lock on that line. As prison lines (rows) got bigger, it was not-convenient, or practical to do this anymore. That's why entire rows of cells roll-open at one time. The boss stays in his controller picket at the head if the row, nice and safe, and the convicts come-out our cages for; yard, work, dayroom, chow, etc.

you know, it's a fine thing to balance showing and giving respect to felons/prisoners, and or/ bowing with allegiance. Showing respect goes a long way with the men, as it goes with most of the human race. However, bending to their wickedness is not an option to the righteous person.

Too many discrepancies in this movie. Cheyenne was murdered by Nuestra Familia hit men while in Palm Hall. Not by his own brothers. And as for Olmos to even Suggest Cheyenne Cadena was raped in Juvenile hall was a big mistake. Considering that there is NOTHING TO HISTORICALLY REFLECT THAT THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED. Olmos disrespected a high ranking member by suggesting this happenned. Pissed alotta the fellas off. As you can see, Olmos Career took a turn for the worst. Haven't heard from him in years. He Made the Worst mistake he could possibly make. With the most treacherous Gang on the street. The fellas Make the Italians look like Mousketeers!! Pendejo Olmos...
