I loved this show. It did take a little while to catch but it was fun to see them in today's world after years after the Muppet show and all the other Muppet related content, the little inserts that made you reminisce about growing up with the Muppets. And it was like they grew with us, much like the adult Looney Tunes Show that came out a while ago that i loved as well. I hate it was only one season.

I appreciated the risks they took with this series, but for my money it just wasn't wacky enough, silly enough, and anarchic enough to hit that Muppet place in my heart. There were moments, but they were too few and too far between.

I wonder if Steve still would have been fired if the show continued? Since it got cancelled they had the perfect excuse to fire him.

I don’t know. 🤔 It would have been really jarring for next season to hear a new voice.

My favorite thing was how grown up it was. Because we grew up with them. Muppets were always a little risqué. Look at Muppets take Manhattan, there were several adult jokes. THE Muppets weren't Sesame Street Muppets. They were prime time. And not everything in a show needs to be explained to kids. That's what makes a good show that is designed to keep adults engaged and kids can watch with. There are jokes that are supposed to go over kids heads. But I don't believe this was a show intended for a target of very young kids. More for Adults, teens, and tweens. Even 90s cartoons had their moments of jokes only older kids or adults would get and it didn't mean you had to go back and explain to younger kids, it would just go over their heads. And that is fine. That's the fun of it. Rocko's modern life for example. Like the recent grown up version of "The Looney Tunes Show" where bugs and daffy were roommates, These are great remakes for the people who grew up with them. All the while there are animated kids versions of both available for little kids to watch still. I'm so upset both of these shows never got another season.

I wonder if they advertised it differently and focus on an adult audience it would have lasted longer.

Was it cancelled because the writers were running out of new ideas?

I thought it got off to a rough start, but it really started to find itself and was really starting to make the format work as opposed to the old variety show format. I think one of the best things the series did was transform him from a rarely used background Muppet and into a great character. Had the show continued I think he might have broken out more into the mainstream much like Miss Piggy did in the original Muppet Show. While I don't want to knock Eric Jacobson for his performance of Piggy, I just feel like she's more of a mean spirited Diva than the Piggy as performed by Frank Oz. With Oz, it felt more like Piggy was mean to compensate for imposter syndrome and afraid others would find out she actually has a heart. Jacobson gets it 99% there but that last 1% really just makes it feel a little off. When she does show emotion it doesn't feel as genuine.

The Muppets 2015 was a great show, extremely well done, and I welcomed the attempt to appeal more to adults. *However*, the creators needed to walk a very fine line in doing so, and ultimately I did not end up liking what they did to the characters. Appealing to adults means exploring the characters a little more in-depth (which they did) and making the humor a little more sophisticated (which they also did). But it does not require adding risque jokes and accepting modern Hollywood assumptions about how adults live their lives. The latter in particular offended me and I think it offended a lot of long-time fans of the Muppets. It ruined the aura of innocence around the Muppets.

Kermit and Miss Piggy got married in Muppets Take Manhattan (1984).

Did they stay married after that? 🤔

@@thegeekywaffle - They were already married in The Muppets Christmas Carol (1992) and in Muppets in Space (1999) they were living together, so I considered them still married. By the 2000s, I don't know...
