That's one thing a recent president didn't exemplify. Our ability not to care what people call us. When you're basically unbeatable you don't really care what others say. When you have actual strength instead of projecting it you don't have to worry about jealousy. I think even Americans don't fully understand the power of the US military. The recent wars we've "struggled" in are only only because we try to protect the country in the process. If a true attack were done, like, "f this country and it's people" the US would wipe out most countries within hours, not even factoring in nuclear weapons (Exceptions are Russia and China due to size)

First and foremost, it's wonderful that you are now safe and free. Secondly, you don't really have to worry about offending most Americans with songs like that - they're actually kind of funny, and most Americans understand that countries like NK force their citizens into thinking and acting like that as a political tool. Every American I know is happy when they see another person made it out of NK, and actually get upset when they hear about some of the living conditions the NK people face. Best wishes for you, and I hope we get to see you more on DIMPLE!

Yeah I actually giggled a little when he said and sang the songs and “insults” he was brainwashed into doing. We understand propaganda here and how it’s used to weaponize people even against general common sense. NK isn’t the first country to do it and won’t be the last sadly. As posters have said above, we are actually just happy when people make it out and can start thinking and learning for themselves. If they still hate Americans after that then fine. But at least they came to that conclusion for themselves and not because someone told them to.

Our social studies / government teacher in high school had us play a simulated global game where you can choose to trade with people, go to war, or just try to be left alone. I remember our country decided to go to war and I'll never forget because we basically both lost. Not saying we should never go to war, but I learned in that class that if war is the decision, we had better be ready for all of the consequences of it and the true cost of war. Our military could win pretty much anything except maybe a true us against the world, and even then, I think it would be assured mutual destruction, even without nukes. Sometimes war is necessary but it's interesting that a country would look at the result and say "We each started with 100 solders. We killed 100 of yours and you killed 95 of ours. We win." No one won. One side wasn't completely destroyed.

@@mquiroz90 No, that is the wrong approach to actually getting everyone to get along in the world. The first step is to ACCEPT our differences, acknowledge and even appreciate it. Instead of being fed up with different backgrounds, it can be used to understand different perspectives. When different perspectives are in the making of any society, you'll bound to have challenges, but if it is respected properly and the group of people are smart about it, there will be many different approaches to solving problems. Plus you're talking about making 7 billion people putting aside their beliefs into one belief. That in it's is a flawed way to unite everyone because then no one can have the free will to understand that one belief because they never needed to further research the support of that belief. Having one central government just gives too much power to a selected few, where they are bound to abuse it, while making the rest suffer. So, not interested in having one single government in the world, it will not solve anything but further advance few careers at the expense of everyone else.

ROK doctors reported that the DPRK soldier suffered from high levels of intestinal parasites and from some degree of malnutrition. This surprised me, as I would have thought that the government in Pyongyang would prioritize its soldiers when it comes to nutrition and sanitation. A soldier with high parasite loads doesn't bode well for common folk.

I like two things the most about this video. 1. I like how Roh Chol Min is very honest about his experiences. It is hard for a lot of people to do this without even the slightest level of sugarcoating. I applaud him for his honesty. 2. I find it hilarious that the thumbnail of this “USA vs North Korea” video is so similar to so many that I have seen before, showing the American M1 Abrams tank against the North Korean Pokpung-Ho tank. I find it so interesting how the tank is basically the main symbol of the country whose people never really were tank people to begin with (North Korea). But that does not mean I do not respect them as soldiers. I just don’t have respect for their equipment that is basically knock-offs of Soviet equipment from like 30+ years ago. No offense in any regard

You are talking from ego. Any major break out of war there would draw in China and/or Russia if we get involved. China got justifiably pissed when MacArthur invaded their country during the Korean War. Against the orders of our President. The South may have been able to keep at least some of what he had won because the North was clearly the one that started it. After making a brilliant military move that changed the tide he did something brilliantly stupid. Real war is not a game. We also have a Congress that often hamstrings our military. And sometimes our Presidents don’t know what the bell they are doing. North Vietnam didn’t have crap but who won?

I was once told by a North Korean Defector on Amino about most of this, and when they found out I was American, I think I shocked them a bit because they were a bit taken aback that I wanted to learn and seemed skiddish, and so they went " I don't want to sound offensive but I was told Americans were as Clever as Foxes." And I went " That's not a offensive for this American cause I love Foxes." I think I accidentally scared them away. But here's the weird thing she didn't know I came from a Small Town in Oregon in the US, where the High School Mascot was a Fox so she was basically giving me complement thinking it was going to be an Insult. And that was actually my first interaction with any Korean. She just happened to be North Korean, and I guess I was her first "Oddly Confusing Clever Fox." I’m not offended by the way North Koreans talk about the American military. I feel bad for them, because this is what they are taught from childhood, it is not their fault. I wish we could have a peace treaty with North Korea, we could help them so much! Give them food and necessities, help them with their electrical grid, and be friends like we are with South Korea. The country is destitute, and living under a dark cloud. But of course China will never allow this. It makes me very sad for the North Korean people. I can’t imagine the USA ever “invading” North Korea. If we ever did, it would be to liberate the North Korean people. America has no problem at all with the North Korean people. We would love to help them if we had the chance.

There is a powerful book based on the testimony of North Koreans who have escaped, titled "Nothing to Envy," by Barbara Demick. If anything, Americans care about the plight of North Koreans, and wish them no harm.
