@brianfoss571 Жыл бұрын
Also, Ron's prefect status is implied when he diffuses Harry's argument with Seamus in the common room and says, *"Has anyone else got a problem with Harry?"* There are plenty of ways filmmakers can acknowledge the spirit of a book without slapping exact scenes down verbatim from the novel. Order of the Phoenix, as a book, is a 1000-page meandering slog compared to the rest of the series. Michael Goldenberg's work slimming it into a 138-min movie is nothing short of masterful.

Two of my favourite scenes is when Harry meets and hugs Sirius and when he speaks to him about him becoming like Voldemort. What makes these scenes great is that these moments aren’t even in the book. It’s actually brilliant that all the best moments and lines don’t come from the book. Luna said what this film is about so perfectly: “If it’s just you alone, you’re not much of a threat” I think that’s one of the most important lines and most real lines I’ve ever head not just for the series but for life itself. It tells the audience that Voldemort wasn’t just a factor in Harry being alone, him being alone wasn’t his plan, it just made it easier for him to manipulate his mind and exploit his fears and anxieties. It isn’t until too late that Voldemort realises that Harry couldn’t be more different from him. Harry fights for the things he loves and Voldemort only fights for himself and for more power.

Because I've been trying to find out if this "fun fact" is true for years, since a lot of people love to quote it, make photo-montages with it, and the only source available is a very old anonymous IMDB post. I've looked for that scene unmuted, or quotes from other actors, but I've never been able to find anything that coroborated that post. On the contrary, in a commentary David Yates stated that the 2 reasons why Harry's scream was muted was: 1)to pay homage to Al Pacino's character's famous cry in "The Godfather" Part 3, which is one of Mr Yate's favorites. 2) he wanted the viewers to really feel the gravity of what has just happened. He wanted viewers to take a moment to stop and realize that Sirius is gone, and what it means for Harry. Anyway, both times he talked about this scene, he didn't say anything about Daniel's scream making other actors cry (?) being the reason for the mute button... you'd think it would be something that he would mention. Ginny was my favorite character in the books and the movies don't do her justice at all (although like you say, this is the least bad one when it comes to her)
@joshz24914 жыл бұрын
Filip Gustavsson I think half blood prince did fine with Ginny for the most part I just think that specifically they should have had less “awkward teenage romance” between her and Harry in the film. Though the scene where she says shut it, the moment when she goes after Harry as the death eaters show up (yes I know it wasn’t in the book) and the moments where she’s consoling him about the book and after Albus’a death (albeit silently) are great moments. I think if they had added their conversations from the book and stayed true to their actual first kiss that it would have been perfect.
@fg5music4 жыл бұрын
@@joshz2491 That's exactly the problem though. They didn't add the conversations, basically all she has to do is "awkward teenage romance". Ginny is not awkward (in the books). She's funny and sassy and smart. Movie ginny has zero personality (apart from maybe one or two blink of the eye moments). As for the death eater scene the problem isn't that it wasn't in the book, the problem is that the scene doesn't matter. They show up randomly, they burn the place down, they leave and it's never mentioned ever again.

Filip Gustavsson Oh believe me I agree with you here. Compared to the book of course Ginny was handled badly I’m just saying that within the context of the movies it was fine. For whatever reason the movies made various choices that weren’t in the books with characters and plot some good, like a lot of movie 5) some bad like (most of movie 6) and some that fall right in the middle. Every movie has things to love and things to hate, in the end I have a very vivid imagination so I just picture the books being acted out whenever I reread them😊

@niharikadatta64422 жыл бұрын
And the fact that he casts the Imperius and Cruciatus curse successfully in the Deathly Hallows book is even more insane. I mean, I genuinely expected him to cast the Killing Curse and come full circle but I think that in the final showdown, when Voldy dies because the Killing Curse rebounded makes it come full circle because Harry's spell deflects it to go the other way round (though it's not supposed to do that).

I know this story is often hated as a book…even by the author…but this story is an excellent character study into ptsd. When you consider that Harry’s first true experience with death that he can remember is the death of Cedric…it changes the entire context of this story. This story is about Harry truly accepting that he is the chosen one and because of that, his loved ones are in danger. The scene where he screams at Dumbledore is easily my favorite in the entire story of showing his evolution as a character…the scene shows him blaming everyone around him for what happened as he accepts that he has no control…only to partially realize, even if he refuses to admit it…that everything is Dumbledore’s fault, that Dumbledore was farming him from the very beginning for a fate he didn’t ask for

One of my favorite scenes in cinematic history (and I consider myself a cinephile) is the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort. There’s just so much tension. The decision to cut all music and dialogue and just focus solely on the sound effects and grunts. Capturing the height of the Ministry of Magic while also showing its lack of width. It’s cathedral-esque but also very confined. They didn’t overplay it, they played it perfectly. It really sucks you right into the room with them. As though you’re there experiencing it, especially right after the trauma of seeing Sirius die (a character I’m sure all of us had grown to love). What a brilliant scene to close a wonderful movie.
@fleetskipper18104 жыл бұрын
Mehbobo Torp yes, I agree totally. The book tells us that there was so much magical power swirling around that it made Harry’s hair stand up. If you look carefully in the movie, after Dumbledore pushes him out of the way and he’s cringing underneath the column, Harry’s hair is actually standing up.

You are SO RIGHT about everything, in this and your other video essays! I'm a much older HP fan--not that that matters---but you are bringing back to life the magic we felt as first the books, and then the movies, were first released! There is only one thing about the OOP book that isn't (and almost certainly could not be) converted to film; yet to me it's the most powerful and heartbreaking line in the entire story: " If death is nothing, Dumbledore, kill the boy..." "Let the pain stop," thought Harry. "Let him kill us... End it, Dumbledore... Death is nothing compared to this.. . . . And I'll see Sirius again." It is Harry's horror and grief at Sirius's death that drives Voldemort out of his mind forever, not seeing his friends. That's a Hollywood touch. Harry's dying thought, in the midst of his sorrow, is that he has the chance to meet Sirius in the afterlife..it is what saves him.

Yeah I was really disappointed they missed out Peeves, his scenes were either cut completely or his lines were spoken by someone else; I actually think generally the ghosts were done a great disservice and were highly under-utilised, we only see the bloody baron and fat friar briefly in the first film, there's only a passing reference to the headless hunt, we don't get NH Nick's 500th deathday party, and as I said Peeves doesn't appear at all.

By far my favorite movie for one reason they actually showed book Ginny in this movie which I loved and how badass she has become from that shy little girl to a strong independent woman. Sadly it’s only in this movie and not the others.

I honestly undervalued "Order of the Phoenix" as a film a little, especially since it is my favourite book, but you helped me understand the movie better. I especially liked how you pointed out the writing style of Michael Goldenberg. With Fantastic Beasts 3 beeing co-written by Steve Kloves, I wonder what sort of a movie they are gonna produce.

Now I totally think that Goldenberg should totally have wrote the screenplay for every movie, imagine Ron and Ginny’s personality actually being true to the book, the only movie where Kloves didn’t mess up Ron (which could be fixed pretty easily fixed) was Philosopher’s/ Sorcerer’s Stone. This movie was great!

I'd say the last words of Sirius Black was the saddest part of the movie. The fact that he referred to Harry as if he were his father just makes that death cut so much deeper

I feel like most HP movies rush to the end after the climax. They should have focused more on Harry’s grief towards Sirius, and kept the conversation between him and Dumbledore at the end. That whole exchange is simply brilliant, and my top 1 favorite moment in the series. Also, the addition of the two-side mirror (and Harry breaking it) would save it from being a plot-hole in Deathly Hollows, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for Daniel to shine as a dramatic actor.
@iloveblondy4 жыл бұрын
I would argue an hour more. None of the Harry Potter films come close to REALLY showing us the FULL BOOK. I vote that the Harry Potter series be released as HBO seasons. 1 season for every book. We all know the story, how many of us want to see the Deathday Party of Nicolas? I do.

So true the ending is so extremely shortened and like the end of Order of the phoenix literally explains the whole Harry Potter series like why snape knew Voldemort would attack lilly ( because he heard the prophecy) and why Voldemort even wanted to kill Harry in the first place. I swear this pisses me off so bad I don't understand why everyone likes this movie. Its story was by faar the worst edited in the whole series. Also the Magical mirror he gets from Sirius is missing making the mirror extremely random in DH.
@kpoplovergosh64064 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite movie too bc it focused on the characters and the importance of friendship. The ending scene with Harry's possession just killed me, when the gang enters and sees him, and the memories they have together just touched me and hit me hard. I got nonstop chills watching this.
@leafyveins49853 жыл бұрын
I honestly always got the feeling that they essentially forgot about Bonnie Wright (Ginny) after her she stopped being a comedic, endearing component that was crushing on the idea of Harry. We never see 10% of the silly, adorable things she did, like making the Valentine's Day card that sang shrilly to Harry, or all of the times she would totally clam up in Harry's presence. And then they completely disregard the arc she had gone through when Harry wasn't really paying attention to her, namely 3rd and 4th book where Ginny is (in the books) always going off to hang out with her own friends, dating whomever she wants and dumping them when they don't meet her standards. Anyway, Bonnie Wright obviously had the potential to be Ginny, but it seemed she was being directed to act a hundred different ways. And in the end, it felt like they directed her to basically be a replacement for Harry's mom. Which is even more stupid than having the whole almost-kiss scene with Harry and Hermione in Deathly Hallows Part 1. Great video btw! You're great at breaking everything down and using the facts to back up any opinuons you state.

Yeah. That is actually my big problem with the movies. They don’t stuck with the magic world. Harry even got points taken from Griffindor for not wearing his robes in the 6th book. I also don’t like deatheaters and Order members flying. It is supposed to be Voldemort’s and Snape’s unique ability.

One small point: Neville does show substantial bravery in the book's final scenes. " 'DON'D GIB ID DO DEM! ' roared Neville, who seemed beside himself, kicking and writhing as Bellatrix drew nearer to him and his captor, her wand raised. 'DON'D GIB ID DO DEM, HARRY! ' "

I was very disppointed with the way they handled Harry's conversation with Dumbledore after they come back from the Ministry. It's one of the most heartbreaking and amazing chapters in the series, and it was barely included in the movie. I can get around cutting Harry's breakdown, but Dumbledore finally explaining about the prophecy is crucial to the story and should have been given more screentime.
