I think Zoe Saldaña, who said that she doesn't support racism and then not only hugged Jacques Audiard (a self proclaimed racist) but then said that Karla Gascón (a Spaniard) was the ONLY ONE who could have played Emilia Pérez (a fictional Mexican), doesn't deserve the Oscar but will get it. She's also a hypocrite, she only wants the Oscar but she's the same as the rest of that lame movie, a 💩

I think this season will remain crazy. I have Conclave for BAFTA, Wicked SAG ensemble, and changed Anora for Oscar, but we will see. It's getting exciting!

Statistically, any film that wins BOTH PGA and DGA and is nominated for SAG Ensemble usually also wins that (TITANIC and THE ARTIST are the only exceptions).

The Artist/Titanic losing SAG is a bit of an ehhh outcome but I dont thinkAnora has to win SAG. Hurt Locker won CCA, WGA, PGA, DGA and still lost SAG. Anora is tracking to do that

@@kidwithaphonecamera I agree with you about Screenplay at BAFTA. I have Anora winning there. Could we see The Substance screenplay picking up speed? I don't know. I am excited to see what happens. I often times will choose long shot upsets against everyone's predictions haha. Like I still think Jean-Baptiste could upset at BAFTA even though she missed Critic's Choice. I know, a crazy prediction, but I am sticking to it haha. I also think we could see a Rossellini upset at BAFTA (again crazy), because she just won the European World Achievement in Cinema Award and has been in some great interviews. Who knows?! I mean I still have Chalomet winning SAG. My picks are all probably horribly wrong but it is fun. I just love that this year we are seeing some upsets and switches. It makes award season even more exciting.

Emilia Perez, I honestly can't freaking understand why this movie has more Oscar nominations than Casablanca, Ben-Hur, The Lord of The Rings, Sleepless in Seattle, The Revenant, Chicago, The Goodbye Girl, Amadeus (1984), The Color Purple (1985), Forrest Gump, Life is Beautiful (1997) and Schindler's List. So, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is sending a message to the world that this movie is outstanding and has a higher achievement in cinema than Casablanca, Life is Beautiful and Schindler's List... Why ? The songs in Emilia Perez are at the same level as The Sound of Music, Chicago, Casablanca, West Side Story, Skyfall (Adele) and Beauty and The Beast. This is a sincere question to the members of the Academy... Why ?

A few weeks ago I would have pegged The Brutalist to take home Best Director and Best Film at the Academy Awards but since the A.I scandal broke around the film, and with Emelia Perez also mired in controversy, I predict Anora will surge ahead come Academy Awards (just based off the outcomes of DGA and PGA).

The dubbing is not the only AI used in the brutalist, they're focusing on that to drown out the fact that they also used genAI for production design and cut costs by not hiring concept arts for the designing of the buildings in the movie (the ones that - in story - were made by the main character). They later had another artist draw on top of the concepts, but that is much cheaper work than concept design. This is a labor issue and the brutalist is setting a dangerous precedent of how much studios can get away with it. They're starting with visual artist, with post-production and CGI because we have no unions and because less people know about what is standard procedure in these fields: this is NOT standard procedure, it is worker replacement and cutting of costs

I was never on the camp of Emilia Perez winning BP, because its a divisive movie so the preferential ballot would prevent that from happening, EVEN WITH THE SUPPORT FROM THE INDUSTRY. Its always been The Brutalist vs Anora, with Conclave, A Complete Unknown and Im Still Here with very low chances (and everyone else with no chance at all). If Anora doesnt win BP, at least its made the Oscar season more interesting.

I can’t find my other comment in which I shared the Variety article about the Academy having issues with AI. I know the AI usage in The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, & Dune 2 were minimal. I’m personally very against AI, especially how film production studios want to use it large scale. I don’t think the minimal usage in those films is a dealbreaker. My impression is that it is a big deal to the Academy because AI was one of the biggest factors behind the writers & actors strike. I think they’re especially sensitive to it currently. I also think The Brutalist’s length might harm its chances because not all the Academy voters want to watch a 3hr & 45min film. If they have an anti-AI bias, they may not even given it a chance.

Unless A Complete Unknown pulls off a BAFTA and SAG sweep, it’s over. Ironically, ACU is the only film that could compete with Anora bc Wicked winning SAG means little and Conclave or The Brutalist winning BAFTA feels too little too late. I’m happy with an Anora sweep because it is a good film that had the ending of the year AND most importantly it’s NOT Emilia Perez.

Anora won Cannes which I think has greater cache among directors and producers than actors. Before the Emilia Perez controversies I would have said it would win SAG for best ensemble but if Anora wins any award at the SAGs then I think Anora is no. 1 pick to win best Oscar picture. If the actors are behind Anora along with producers and directors then it’ll win best picture Oscar. But i think there’s also a gender thing going on. I feel males, particularly older males, like Anora more than females. And SAG has a lot of female voters. I know female critics liked it less than male critics.

But The Brutalist got controversy for using AI. The problem is that they used AI to help the actors speaking Hungarian more authentic. Honestly, it's a crap, and prove the point using AI to human. It's different maybe if they use it for CGI or anything. But actors, as if their credibility should be questioned. Selena Gomez got many backlash over her Mexican. So yeah, it's a cheat. I think it's a setback for the movie to winning Oscar.

I feel bad for Zoe Saldana, say what you will about Emilia Perez as a movie even if you didn’t like it, I went into her comments the other day with a post she did about being with some firefighters at the critics choice, and for some reason, everyone when after her because Arianna didn’t win. For example if Colman Domingo gets nominated for an Oscar in the next coming years his narrative will be that he’s been putting out great work for a while and already has 2 noms, no matter the merit of his performance he’d probably win that year. People are too reactionary. They don't look at the long game. I believe Conclave is winning BAFTA and SAG ensemble, with Wicked possibly pulling an upset. But BAFTA happens right before voting closes so if Conclave can win, it might get the boost it needs. But frankly, I'll be happy if Conclave wins Picture and Baker wins Director.

So far we only have heard from critics who their vote is. The real industry awards are BAFTA and SAG. Demi is the front runner but she doesn't have it in the bag 100% yet.

I’m feeling kind of bad for The Brutalist. The so called AI controversy is so overblown. Although I think the BAFTA’s might redeem it. That is if say Chalamet wins SAG. But so far A complete unknown hasn’t been winning anything.
