In this episode Trent examines the faulty claims of “prosperity preachers” like Kenneth Copeland who promise to wealth to Christians who tithe (to their ministries).

The opening statement of this video, describing certain Christians, consists of so much misinformation that it borders on a lie. What the video maker describes as the "properity gospel" and pentecostalism was preached in modern times to dirt poor Americans in the early 20th century. People lived in shanties without toilets, running water, electricity, fans, or decent clothes. Since the awaking by Christians to what the Bible actually says about many topics, including faith, health, finances, prayer, salvation, sin, and new life in Christ, Jesus fanatics have grasped hold of many promises from God's Word, all of which have solid foundations in scripture. After the war, God poured out blessings on such Christians and the entire United States as sunshine on everyone without discrimination because Christians are the light of the world for as long as they are here because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross by the shedding of his righteous blood. If you are so adamant God wants you to live like my grandmother and great-grandmother in an earthen dugout with a thatch roof, you are free to do so. Since you are not, notice the Bible also promises a fountain of peace and joy that I would bet you have never experienced or even tasted. You cannot deny the Bible promises such heavenly joy nor your access to the Sabbath rest as the promise in Isaiah and throughout the Bible. Have you not read the insistence in Hebrews to enter such heavenly rest to cease from your own evil efforts. For one, like the people of Capernia, you deny the physical results of salvation. For two, you even deny the spiritual blessings of joy and peace promised. Instead you listen to a watered-down gospel that teaches that if you are lucky to encounter poor health in life that through such God will punish your for your past sins so you can enter heaven based on your own self righteousness. You are believing a lie and are likely to succumb to the great falling away from Jesus that is already occurring.

The greatest irony of Protestantism is that for all of the accusations of Catholics that we're a "works-based faith," it's Protestantism by and large that produced things like the Protestant work ethic (exemplified in the US by "pull himself up by his own bootstraps") and Prosperity Gospel, where even though a Christian is saved by faith alone, one still feels compelled to do work to the extreme in order to show forth the (material) fruits of his salvation. Absolutely incredible that people somehow reconcile both sola gratia and sola fides with this

I came to catholicism after 30 years of anti-catholicism. One of the things that I realized was that sure, all I NEED to do is believe that our Lord Jesus Christ died for iur sins and rose again, but then again, all I NEED to do to be a husband is to come home from work every day and not cheat on my wife. But wouldn't my wife be a pot happier if I bought her flowers sometimes, did the laundry sometimes and did other things to ease her burdens or make her feel like she means something to me? Why not apply that to my faith and go the extra mile for God?

@kevint7288 Жыл бұрын
@@dhenderson1810 No. Nowhere did I ever mention the word "sin." I'm pointing out the irony that Protestantism doesn't include sanctification (e.g., good deeds) in its soteriology, yet those cultures that have been historically Protestant (especially the Germans) work themselves to death precisely because the only certainty in their salvation is "by their fruits." That attitude would make way more sense in Catholic soteriology, which gets characterized as a "faith and works-based salvation." Yet, those countries that are predominantly Catholic (e.g., Italy, Spain, Portugal, Latin America) are all cultures that include a siesta in the middle of the day.

There is also a very well known Catholic businessman, Jim McIngvale, who is known for his extra-ordinary generosity! It's hard not to compare the two. He gives to so many charities and helps LOTS of people every time there is a flood or terrible storm. The people of Houston love and respect him because he gives so much and expects nothing in return.

Embarrassingly and shamefully I was up to my neck in the prosperity gospel.for forty years. I Left the Catholic Church in my early 20’s following my wife, not Catholic, into the teachings of Kenneth Copeland. I concur with every thing mentioned in this video, I lived it and experienced the prosperity gospel to my financial detriment. For forty years I was mesmerized by the Kenneth Copeland prosperity message believing that someday my shipload of money would come in. After forty years of waiting for my ship it was common sense that finally arrived and I left that financial disaster. I began following in the prosperity gospel in my early 20’s and now in my 70’s my financial state is a shambles. I could go on about my experiences and observations of this diabolical teaching maybe some other time for that. I would really like to see the Catholic Church have a more out spoken teaching exposing this twisted gospel teaching. I have returned to the ONLY Church Jesus founded, 8 years now, and take every advantage I come across to warn people of this twisted gospel the prosperity message. Pray for me, Jesus, I Trust In You. Keep this message going Trent!

I think y’all are missing the point of financial prosperity message. You don’t give to get. Although the Bible says to give and it shall be given. But the question you need to ask yourself is: What is your motive? Are you listening to God or man where to give? Are you still walking in love with man or fighting? Are you offended by someone? Are you keeping the laws of God? Are you in sin? Btw: do you study the Bible or only go to church on Sunday? WAKE UP! God needs our money to further His kingdom. People need to hear the gospel. That takes money and as long as you’re obedient THEN the blessings will come. That simple!! Deuteronomy 28. And if you were all in at one time your blessings are coming. His word doesn’t become void. Use it for the right reason!!!! Do you even know these men of God? All you see is the blessings and think they are USING YOUR MONEY. No!! You really need to do your homework!!! DONT ALLOW PEOPLE TO TELL YOU WHAT TO BELIEVE!!!!!! DO THE RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! These are just the some of the faith blockers of blessings. I can tell you is that I’ve been there in the blessings when I think less of myself and give with a giving heart God automatically blesses. I’ve experienced the goodness of God! So unless you obey God in his commands you WILL BE BLESSED. THAT SIMPLE! I know one thing! No one can ever tell me that God wants me to just get by. He wants to bless us!!!! He gives us the power to get wealth!!! You need to press into HIS WAY!! We need to mature in the things of God!!!! And understand God before judging ministers and others!!!

@@sandras5317 . I beg to differ on the giving to get from the prosperity gospel approach. Any one of these fake gospel preacher either openly declare that the giver will receive financial return, blessing or certainly imply that a financial blessing. I see your point , however, the Kenneth Copeland’s, Jesse Duplantis, and all the rest in that circle are personally profiting from their preaching the process gospel. I don’t really care how wealthy theses so called preachers are it’s their method of gaining their wealth. Pat Robertson is an example of this form of gospel gain. Pat Robertson built CBN on the $10-$20 donations and ended up selling CBN to the Family Network for millions. So where is the return to all those who donated.? I have no problem giving to support any honest ministry but I certainly don’t give to the ones that buyout another multi-million dollar bizjet. God does certainly bless and He has and continues to so. The fake prosperity preachers either openly admit that blessing only comes from giving TO THEIR ministry or implies such. Anyway, I could go on, but I stand by my statements about the fake prosperity gospel.

@@BoksCar29 how can you say Kenneth and Jesse and the rest of the prosperity ministry are fake?? Do you know what Kenneth has done for the gospel??? How many ministries he has given??? Sorry but these men are men of God. They walk in integrity.
@BoksCar292 жыл бұрын
@@sandras5317 , How can I say that Copeland and Duplantis are fake preachers? Well they are preachers but not preachers of the saving Grace Godpel of Jesus Christ. It’s not so much what Copeland has done for the gospel it’s more like what Copeland has done TO the gospel. Copeland only gives to 5013C ministries for tax right off. As far as being quick to judge Copeland and his circle of preachers I came to the conclusion of the prosperity gospel and those preachers after forty years of it, no exactly a “quick to judge “. The biggest problem with the prosperity gospel preachers is that they talk way to much which if a person REALLY pays attention you will hear some very bazar stuff.. my decision to leave the likes of Copeland, Duplantis and that circle of preachers was because I actually listened to what they said. I have heard Jesse Duplantis make some factually Incorrect statements to the point I wrote Jesse a letter to retract his statements. Of course I didn’t get a response because it would probably be to beneath Jesse to respond. God may not desire that any of these preachers to lie but these preachers do have a Fred will.. Theses preachers are only men if God because they say they are. Sandra, I was a lot like you defending these preachers but what I heard and experienced over the forty years became more than I could take and I left. In part the prostate gospel and it’s preachers brought me back the One And Only Church Jesus Founded that being the Catholic Church, how refreshing that return has been. The wandering around in the wasteland of the prosperity gospel depleted me so much that the fullness of truth found only in the Catholic Church rescued me.

They begin with catchy music, lights, and high energy. 2. The “pastor” comes on the stage in a suit/sport coat/etc. and gives a very surface level mini presentation about several passages in the Bible and what Christ can do for them. Key point. 3. Every single service (without fail) tithing and “giving God that first 10%” comes up. It’s then displayed in their screen with several different ways of how they can give. 4. It’s bookended with their “give your life to Jesus” prayer and immediately bandaided over with another catchy song.

"3/25/11 From The Lord, Our God and Savior The Word of The Lord Spoken to Timothy For The Lord’s Little Flock, and For All Those Who Have Ears to Hear Thus says The Lord: Blessed is that servant of Mine who seeks out the poor, whose heart is eager to help the needy, for they know My ways and seek to please Me. Blessed also is My servant who gives out of the abundance they have received, for they walk in My ways. Yet most blessed is My servant who gives from their lack, for they do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with their God; indeed, they have understood. Yet woe to those who ignore the poor and draw back their hand from the needy, while they sit at ease in their abundance. For destitution is coming, and shall be born out of great desolation, in the day I take away their abundance and leave their houses desolate. Woe also to those who say they are My servants, yet refuse to help those in need, for only tears and sorrow await them. And woe to those who fail to give even the smallest amount, claiming they are in lack, for they have no trust, having learned nothing from the poor widow.[1] Little flock, have you learned nothing from My Word? Have you so quickly forgotten My Letters, in where I have taught you the way in which you should walk? Indeed, who you choose defines what you do, as I have already told you.[2] And who are the poor and the needy? How have you treated them, while entreating Me? Do not lie to yourselves, beloved ones. Every one of you who sit at this table want for nothing. Shall you mince words over a dollar, while others sit upon the ground seeking to draw water from a pit? Shall you covet five dollars or even ten as you drive about in your automobiles, while your brothers and sisters abroad willingly walk miles to preach My Word, with joy, even to their dying breath? And still some of you sit at ease in your padded chairs, punching the keys, saying within yourselves, “I am delivered.” You are not delivered! From the power of sin, yes, My children, I have delivered you, yet some of you remain married to this world. And those who remain married to another, even to themselves, can by no means be joined unto Me, lest adultery be brought into the house of The Lord. Beloved ones, you are My treasure. Yet some of you count yourselves as first, having loved another more than Me; therefore you must be last. For I search the hearts and minds. And that discipline reserved for the churches of men, is it not also for you, even to a greater degree? Or have you forgotten this Scripture: For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more? I grew up in the Pentecostal church, so I know these types of preachers well. The church my family attended frequently had visiting evangelists, who preached at our church for weeks at a time, several nights a week. Of course, an offering was always taken during each service. I always remember how these evangelists always claimed they were so poor, they didn't have two nickels to rub together, but they always seemed to be driving the latest model Cadillac. By contrast, my family really DIDN'T have two nickels to rub together, yet we were supposed to support these evangelists (and the church) with our tithes, offerings AND regular "love offerings" on top of that. Even as a small child, I questioned why my family was expected to give to preachers who drove Cadillacs, while we were so poor, we had to take the bus to get to church and were often on food stamps and at risk of having our utilities turned off. This greed, along with the ongoing hypocrisy and racism I saw in organized religion, made me decide to walk away from organized religion in my mid-'20's. It really is predatory. But, one of the reasons it's so successful in organized religion, particularly the Pentecostal religion, is because you aren't supposed to question anything. Just believe what you are told, keep that wallet and checkbook open, or you're going to hell in a hand basket.

My mother was completely brainwashed by prosperity gospel ‘preachers.’ She spent 30 years of her life giving more money than she could afford to a wide range of evangelical churches and so called charitable organizations. When we were facing homelessness, the loss of utilities, struggling to buy food, she would cry and wonder why she had tithed, but we were struggling to survive. When a member of our family, or she became ill or fell into sinful behavior/beliefs, she would cry and say it was because she did not pray properly. The last 15 or so years we lived in Houston, she attended Joel Osteen’s ‘church.’ I’m sure many who read this are familiar with his key phrase, “You have not, because you ask not.”

When I was a kid I fell into a type of Prosperity gospel Message that was based on the statement by Jesus [paraphrased] "How many parents if asked for a piece of bread would give their parents a rock? And how much more would your father in heaven whos is perfect give to you " I remember in Church thinking all sarcastically "my parents would." But I honestly believed if I just pray enough Ill get what I want in life. The irony is the thought that my parents would actually completely disqualified my belief because if my parents gave me a stone instead of bread it was probably because instead of just eating more carbs I should probably go be active and use the stone to workout or play or something. So God answer's prayers but sometimes the answer is "no." But when the answer is "no," know God has something better in mind. "Blessed are the poor in Spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" after all.

After the war, God poured out physical blessings on such Christians and the entire United States as sunshine on everyone without discrimination because Christians are the light of the world for as long as they are here because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross by the shedding of his righteous blood. If you are so adamant God wants you to live like my grandmother and great-grandmother in an earthen dugout with a thatch roof, you are free to do so. Since you are not, notice the Bible also promises a fountain of peace and joy that I would bet you have never experienced or even tasted. You cannot deny the Bible promises such heavenly joy nor your access to the Sabbath rest as the promise in Isaiah, Ephesians, and throughout the Bible. Have you not read the insistence in Hebrews to enter such heavenly rest to cease from your own evil efforts. For one, like the people of Nazareth Jesus preached to, you deny the physical results of salvation. For two, you even deny the spiritual blessings of joy and peace promised. Instead you listen to a watered-down gospel that teaches that if you are lucky to encounter poor health in life that through such God will punish your for your past sins so you can enter heaven based on your own self righteousness. Cradle Catholic here. I ended up in a WOF church. It was the dynamic style of preaching and the lively worship music that captivated me and not the promise of wealth. As a matter of fact, the prosperity teaching was the aspect that ultimately turned me off. I was very poor at the time but dutifully did my bit to tithe and support the church. This meant that there were many times I went hungry. I turned to the leadership thinking that I would be offered support in return but nope! I was astounded at such an unchristian attitude and I walked away. This particular church was not a poor church and, while I never witnessed the excesses that some WOF churches exhibit (like the televangelists), those at the top all lived very comfortable lives. While I think it's only right that a preacher have his needs met, I don't think it should be at the expense of those he is supposed to serve: especially the poorest among them! It's interesting how they preached "living by faith" to the congregation (which translated meant give what you don't yet have and you'll receive more) while also drumming into us that they (the preachers) were entitled to receive from us justifying their position by saying that money was needed to fund various projects (therefore they needed a dependable source of income). So why couldn't they trust God like they were telling us to to do? Not many in the church asked this question and even gasped at the mere mention of the notion as though it was blasphemy. The manipulation and brainwashing runs deep. Unfortunately that experience led me to an even more twisted path (New Age) but I thank God that He continued to patiently and lovingly watch over me and eventually led me back to the faith I was raised in.
@anta3612 Жыл бұрын
@Di NY I noticed this tendency in the church I attended as well. The pastors would only speak and surround themselves (give positions of privilege in the ministry) to those who were wealthy/well off. The poor were neglected, ignored and told they just needed to have more faith (by giving their last dime to these well off pastors). The ministry was a family business in which the pastor's whole family was involved (with additional side businesses supported by wealthy Christians). I did learn a lot while in that church which has proved valuable in my Christian walk but it took me a while to detangle myself from the weeds that were choking the truth (truth wrapped in lies). May God bless you and continue to do mighty works through you.
@anta3612 Жыл бұрын
@Di NY I was very young when all this happened and I didn't know scripture at the time so I was easily deceived. I sensed in my spirit that something wasn't right but it wasn't until I began reading scripture in context for myself (they would take verses out of context and twist them to fit their agenda/doctrine) that my eyes were fully opened. God bless you.

The opening statement of this video, describing certain Christians, consists of so much misinformation that it borders on a lie. What the video maker describes as the "properity gospel" and pentecostalism was first preached in modern times to dirt poor Americans in the early 20th century. You are believing a lie and are likely to also succumb to the great falling away from Jesus due to the coming deception prophosied that is already occurring.

Seeing, this and your interview with the former Christian Singer who lost his faith, it is sad to see how having a mindset that God is there to intervene so that we can be comfortable causes so many to lose faith when things get tough or see others suffer and ask why God doesn't do anything about it. That's why in the Bible, Israel clung to God in hardship and forgot him when things were going great! That's why people in third world countries that are actually poor and destitute are rich in their faith and never dream of apostatizing, while those of us who have comfort in the western first world nations fall away at the first sign of misfortune, and actively try to rid God from our lives. Perhaps God is not concerned with our comfort on Earth or with things getting hard for us, but uses those moments to call us to take refuge in him.

Excellent argument. 👏🏻 We can see in the lives of some saints that they endured financial hardship despite not having been poor, and some others had wealth but either gave it away charitably or otherwise spurned it. To my recollection, none of them was rewarded with wealth or other temporal prosperity… and why should they have been? Didn’t the Lord Jesus Christ instruct us to seek our reward in heaven? I myself have charitably given over $60,000 in the last 18 months, which far surpasses tithing of 10% of my income, and is keeping me almost perpetually broke. I have no promises of remuneration or prosperity, nor do I expect any. I’m not sharing this as a boasting point - I’m probably the worst Catholic in the room wherever I go - but merely weighing in to affirm the point of this video.

Was Jesus poor? Didn’t they give him gifts when he was born? When he was crucified, they casted lots on his robe. Must have been of fine clothing. How do you think Jesus lived. A son of a carpenter. Hummm! Aren’t builders wealthy. Hmm…. Do your research before pointing fingers

The Copeland ministry, so called, is riddled with divorces. Kelly, his daughter, four time around the block for her. Copeland's grandson, Jeremy, now a so-called preacher in Colorado, divorced right off the starting line with his first wife and now on second go around. Along as all his kids and grandkids get a Kenneth Copeland blessing on getting a divorce you don't get your ticket to heaven revoked.
