After riding both a SG and RG on long trips, here's my two cents worth. The Road Glide gets about .5 gal of gas better millage per fill up then any other bike. As far as handling, not a real lot of difference when riding at speed. Although there is something about the RG I like. 'Feels' more slippery. Slight edge in handling to the RG just on that. Reality is though, I didn't notice any real difference. Going into corners, you're not turning, you're leaning. Different visuals for sure. One thing I noticed though about the ST, is the fairing does protect your hands which I love. Bottom line is per usual, in the eye of the beholder. Both have great points. Full disclosure, I got a Street Glide Special. Love the bike.

Another benefit is the lack of wind feedback from the fairing. With fork mounted windscreens/fairings strong gusts of wind can move your handlebars, frame mounted fairings buck the wind much better.

Only reason I like the moving fairings, is for night time riding. You always have the headlight available during turns.
@drewp.wiener12055 жыл бұрын
See - this is one argument I don't really understand. When you're going fast, not much handlebar turning takes place regardless - it's mostly lean so the headlight is mostly in-line with the bike. And when you're going slow - there's more handlebar turn, but you're still leaning. And if you're not leaning, you're going SUPER slow, so what difference does it make? Headlights in cars are stationary and people aren't crashing for that reason... They crashing because they're idiots...

While turning (at speed) you're actually counter steering. Try riding straight and push lightly on the right side of the bars, you will go right. Try it if you don't believe. Therefore you're actually aiming it away from the turn.
@Militaryarmschannel2 жыл бұрын
@@drewp.wiener1205 When you're going at highway speeds you actually pull the bars left to lean right. SG actually handles better. There is a reason that of all PD’s across the country, none chose the RG as the service m/c. The guys that have to ride a motorcycle 8 hours a day, prefer the batwing fairing equipped H-D (E/Glide or S/Glide) because it’s just plain easier to maneuver in moderate to heavy traffic in metro areas as well as providing more hand protection. Many Departments have done numerous studies. If you’re doing a lot of straight line touring though, and can only have one bike, you’ll probably like the RG a little more. I, personally, use my SGS more than my RGS.

They are both gone now (so it the bird), but try playing a tape recorder over and over again - they break. When the wire breaks, you just tie it together and it keeps playing. Now try explaining a Wire Recorder to a Millennial. They look at you like they have gas and need to make sure all three "states of matter" don't come out when they fart.

Hey man! They put it on the frame so you don't feel the choppy wind on your hands. The bike will feel that wind too so it will start turning left and right .. The other thing is it's getting hard to turn when on high speed due to the resistance of the wind. Basically it gets much easier handled and much safer if you put the fender on the frame. The weight of the fender itself doesn't matter as it will be hung on the fork anyway.

I live in Florida and have cruised the freeways at 90+ mph many times and have taken it up to 130+ mph, and yes I have passed trucks without "fighting the wind". Like some stated before....at speed you can't turn the handle. I am 6.2 and when I ride the RG I get less protection from the wind. Yes you will feel the extra weight on the SG when maneuvering at very slow speeds but that weight is a benefit at high speeds. Nike vs Adidas ..... IMO....both 2016 and newer SG and RG are great bikes, its up to the buyer to choose the one that fits them best.

I have rode the Street Glides & Road Glides. I couldn't disagree with you more about which bike is the best. FIRST, the Street Glide is "Cool Looking", yet the Road Glide is"Ugly". Why ? The ugly fairing & ugly windshield options on the Road Glide. The Street Glide has "Cool Factor" for looks & cool windshields, but the Road Glide does not in my eyes ... "Can't fix ugly". SECOND, the Street Glide fairing works perfect, yet the Road Glides fairing distance between the rider seems to far away. I'm 6'1" and have never felt cramped on a Street Glide. I think it is preference whether you want to be closer or farther away from the fairing, so that's just another reason why Road Glides don't work best for me . THIRD, you are pushing the "easy on the hands" factor, to sell the Road Glide, but this is a non-factor for most riders on normal rides, meaning, unless you have bad arm strength during the weather blowing 40mph gusts, then I agree, you don't have to man-handle the Road Glide. Most of us don't ride in weather that is 40 mph winds, so that was not a factor for me. LAST, spending 25-30k on a Harley, I'm buying the coolest looking bike, not the ugliest bike ! ! ! This is why I bought a Street Glide, and why you will never convince me that the Road Glide is the best Harley.

I personally am torn between the Street Glide and Road Glide, having never rode either. I've got a Sportser 48, but am starting to look at getting a touring machine. I'm 5'4", and wonder how this would fit me without having air ride to bring it down more. A good friend of mine rides his street glide all the time, even though he has other bikes probably more versed for around town. He's taller, but he's always dropping his down with the air ride when stopped.
@williamjohnson65175 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old post but at 5'4 you might have an issue ? The Streetglide is lowered at the rear but I'm 5'8 and personally wouldn't want to be any shorter. I do have a saddleman solo seat with gel and I believe the standard seat is a little lower but this is a 800 odd lbs bike so test ride one first. If it gets the better of you , you would never stop it falling over!

I already know. Rode an 05 FLHRCI for years great ride and enjoyed it. Moved up to a 19 FLTRXS. Was put off by the distance between me and the ferring at first but it isn't really much difference and if I really need to go from radio to GPS I can do it from the handlebars. I had a ferring I put on the roading which made it look and respond more like a street glide. Now that I have a roadglide the difference between it and the roadking is about the same difference between the roadking and a sportster. Handling is so smooth the power is awsome and stopping is the best. The new roadglide doesnt have a CD player. And has the benefit of the cylinder shut off if sitting still to cool the engine.

I had a 2005 Vrod with a Road Glide faring and bags. It was a great bike except for the range because it didn’t have the 5 gallon tank.

probably already commented, but the next year there was no road glide. they skipped '14 and came out with the rushmore for the RG in '15.

I’ve got both. Love both of them but the streetglide is better for a passenger.

If you roll forward on the throttle it deactivated the cruise control from 2010 up. Don’t know about other earlier years.
