I own both....my biggest differences....The RG you have a feeling that the front tire is extended out further than you do on a SG, this is due to the nose being so much further out front...so the RG "feels" a lot longer than the SG. The RG, counter steering and handling are more confident, as you do not have that extra 40-50 lbs of weight on the bars. If you ride aggressive in turns a lot I think the RG is better...(I ride my RG a LOT harder in turns than I do the SG) as it gives me much more confidence, its more responsive to rider input and I assume this is because of the lack of weight attached to the upper part of the bars. The SG has a MUCH BETTER rider bubble with a much lower shield since its so much closer to the rider. I have a 6 inch shield on the SG and a 9 inch on the RG....the RG is WAY noisier than the SG...both my wife and I 100% can certify that there is far less wind noise and you can hear the stereo MUCH BETTER on the SG. People have always said that the SG gets blown around on the highway moreso than the RG and is affected more when passing trucks and what not.....for US this has absolutely NOT been the case....motorcycles are affected by wind, thats just the simple facts of it...I have not noticed the RG being any less affected than my SG by gusts of wind....if anything it affects me MORE on the RG as my SG has a much better rider bubble. Like you Tall, I have never had ANY issues on my SG on the highway at all....but then again I also ride a sportbike and a triumph bobber, which REALLY get blown around...all my Harleys feel way more planted on the highway than other bikes and I think that can be attributed to the massive increase in weight than any other bike I own. I do absolutely LOVE the additional front storage on the RG but I love the gauge layout WAY MORE on the SG (I HATE looking down to see my RPM on the RG). Is one better than teh other...I dont really think so, I think its all about rider preference and each has advantages and disadvantages when compared to each other. I like the RG when I am riding aggressively and I like the SG when I am doing long trips and relaxing. (My wife likes the SG more, as she hates the additional noise on the RG and I REFUSE to put a 14 inch screen on it as I simply hate the look of the tall screen). Have a GREAT HOLIDAY TALL!! Thank you so much for all you do Brother!! Have a blessed holiday season!
@redrider01513 жыл бұрын
I forgot one other thing....attachments on the bars....with the SG, you can attach ANYTHING you want and you know immediately how it will react when riding, as the entire front end turns with you. With the RG, I ALWAYS consider how its going to react with my stereo and everything else and where the cords are going to go etc.... I guess its another reason why I would use the SG to tour with, as I like the drink holder, phone holder, and anything else people mount to the bars and plug in and not have to even remotely worry about it.

It doesn't matter if your front fairing is attached to the handlebars ir not. The fairing weight still sits on the front end of the bike just the same

I give you a + on the headlights...not taking anything away from the Street Glide, that is a plus...so yes, I give you that one...but the handling is truly different, as I have ridden both before I made my decision on going with the Road Glide, I came from a Kawasaki Ninja, so the fixed fairing is what I was use to, but, I did say but, I did give the Street Glide a chance to bring me into the Harley Davidson world as my first Harley Davidson, but the Road Glide won me over, due to the ride and the way it handled. So stay blessed Bro and keep on Gliding, soon to be Road Gliding...LOL 🤣🤣🤣

I was told that if you are 5’10” tall or shorter the street glide is a better fit … 5’11” or taller road glide “fits better “ I am 6’3” and after owning a Ultra classic and Road Glide Special I personally agree with this formula.

Tall, I have the highest respect for your loyalty (to the Street Glide) and HD intellect. However, your obstinance and inflexibility are showing because we both know, that you know which is the better bike. Your attempt at demonstrating objectivity comparing the Street Glide and the Road Glide is very good ... but the disingenuity is peeking through. Keep the Street Glide but get the bike that we all know you really want to have, the Road Glide. Your Street Glide friends and family will get over it!

Tall I went from a 17 ultra limited to a 21 roadglide limited. I am now a believer in the roadglide. Both bikes are nice, but this roadglide is just a bit more comfortable. 114 vs 107, this 21 is geared taller. Into a wind is better on the glide. The 21s are so smooth and powerful.

GOOD SHOW TALL !!!! That was about the best demo of the differences I have heard. And I agree 100%. I have owned both models and discovered that FOR ME the Street Glide was much more manageable. I never could get use to or comfortable with that shark nose fairing .... especially in tight or U-turns. I put about 10K miles on that 2015 Road Glide Special before I traded back to a Street Glide. The "fatique" issue you spoke was not noticeable by me at all. And most of my riding is long distance. Anyway I enjoyed your video .... THX ... as always for sharing !

As a newer Harley rider, which I have only ridden an Electra Glide for about 3 years, I would have to say my preference would be the Street Glide. Nothing against the Road Glide, as it's a sharp bike, but I like the look and ride of the Electras and Streets. While I love the storage of Electras, the next bike will be a Street Glide. I had 3 different SG from 2013-2019. Made switch to RG. Loved the SG, but enjoying the RG more. Biggest difference for me is the lighter feeling of steering on the RG. Feels like you can throw the bike around easier. Not having headlights move is not a problem. I think people over think that. Keep making great videos Tall. Enjoying the content. FYI- BUY THE ROAD GLIDE!!
@jheard09123 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with the whole headlight thing. No one is looking down or fixated on the lights as they’re turning. Idk why people always throw that in the topic of the 2.
@TheRealChetManley3 жыл бұрын
The headlights are only any issue when sitting still. You can aim them to look around on the SG. But when it motion the headlights are always going to be pointed in the direction the bike is traveling. It’s a non-issue.

We met you at Wall Drug during Sturgis 2021. This is the first of your videos that have popped up in my feed. My hubby was already subscribed to you. I wish you would have ridden the bikes and shown the difference. I ride an Ultra Limited and would love to get a Road Glide, however since I am so tall waisted I feel like my head is being ripped off . The batwing fairing is so different in wind channeling. I run a high windscreen and still look over the top of it. My longest day is 1123 miles, while our typical day is 600 - 700 miles. High wind is VERY fatiguing on my Ultra due to my lack of upper body strength. I work out, but still wish I could have the fixed fairing. Since you are tall I would be interested in hearing your feedback, especially if you could ride with a flip up windscreen. No dealers ever have them as demos when I test ride. We go to the International Motorcycle show each year and test ride all makes of bikes, so I have ridden at least 30 Road Glides, all are head rippers. lol

I’ve owned both. And both of them are great bikes. The SG feels planted to the ground. My bike didn’t shake when riding by trucks or in strong wind. The RGS is more comfortable. But that’s my opinion. You won’t be disappointed with either one. Harley Davidson has fined tuned these bikes to perfection. If you complain about ride quality with either one, you’re just looking for something to complain about. 💯💯💯👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🎯🎯🎯. I’m going to buy the Pan-American after the holidays and the Road King Special after that. Gotta mix it up.

I bought my first Harley last year came from all sport bikes. I was really torn between the two. I love the look of the dual headlights of the RG coming down the road. It really came down to the rider view of the SG for me which is what I’m always looking at when I’m riding. Both are beautiful bikes. Everyone I ride with has RG’s so I’m glad I went with the SG just to be different. Got a great deal on a 2020 left over CVO for the same price as a 21 special would of cost . Love your content 👌🏻

I currently have a Road Glide and a Road king. I have ridden an Ultra thousands of miles along with my Road Glide. Truthfully IMO there is not enough difference to be a big enough deal to get excited about. Test ride both and see what blows your skirt up. Your not going to make a mistake with either of them. I think for many it comes down to which one they think looks better and that's just fine. The Road king is far more fun on the backroads without all of the high positioned weight of the others. The Road King feels like a hot rod in comparison and is much easier to flick around and have fun with. If I could only have one it would be the Road King and I would make do as far as GPS and storage is concerned for trips. There are plenty of work arounds to make that happen.

Being biased, the street glide is just hands down a better looking ride that essentially is the same bike.
@michaelpatterson98973 жыл бұрын
Love my SGS. I chose it over the Road Glide for two reasons. One, I didn't like having to look down more on the RG to find the speedo and tach. Two, the handlebar position on the RG has your hands pulled back with knuckles off to the side vs the SG with more of a knuckles ahead position. Just more comfortable for me. Both are GREAT bikes.

Thanks for commenting. Next time I'm on a Road Glide I'll check it out.

Yeah, but no one rides stock bars anyhow...the biggest improvement to the handling and comfort of your bike will absolutely be bars that are built to put your arms and hands where you like them....it will MASSIVELY improve riding comfort and your ability to counter-steer....so I wouldn't even consider bar position at all when comparing the 2, as 90% of us will correct it.

Both bikes are great bikes . I currently own an 2018 Road Glide, with 26K miles ridden . I’ve previously owned a 2013 Ultra Limited , 2002 ElectraGlide Classic . The biggest difference comes in when you travel , ride 500 miles on a bat wing and ride 500 miles on a Road Glide, you will not be as tired at the end of the day on a Road Glide .

When Bambi totaled my Road King, I knew I was going to go Street Glide or RG. I rented each. Took it to the mountains on consecutive weekends in Western NC & rode the well known roads in the area. Rode the Interstate for 4 hours before getting to me destination. (Maggie Valley) Both were pretty much the same to me. Nothing magical & so called "better handling" of the RG. So I would buy either & ended up buying an Ultra Limited. I prefer the dash of the Batwing way more than the Shark, although I prefer the look of the Shark from the front.

As a new Harley owner, I opted for the Road Glide. My second choice (and it was VERY close) was a Road King. Last would have been a Street Glide. All great bikes! What made the difference for me? Aesthetics, purely aesthetics. The Road Glide won over the Road King because of the build-in navigation system. Even that was a bit of a toss-up, though, because I'd have an an add-on Garmin GPS needed for the Road King, and I like the Garmin functionality better. So, tough decision!

I demoed both back to back a few years ago and the RG felt huge in comparison to the SG just because of the visual presence of the bigger fairing, the bikes basically ride the same. I've ridden both for a number of years, but I prefer the Rushmore style Road Glide. It has an aggressive look and the dual headlamps makes riding a night or early morning no problem. The light is so wide, you don't have to turn your bike to see out to the sides (of course, you can always put some Custom Dynamics on it). As mentioned, the newer model also provides the handlebar controls instead of reaching for the radio like the older models. The biggest plus is the space to hold the call phone. As for the fixed fairing, I don't feel much of a difference unless the wind was really gusty. I'm not looking at tach/speedometers unless I really need to so placement of them is not an issue. Get out there and ride!! @TravelingTall @HarleyDavidson #MyHarleyTradition

I’m thinking about moving out of Arizona and moving to Tennessee and when that eventually does happen I will likely be selling my 2020 Street Bob and finally getting into either a Street Glide or Road Glide, I’ve ridden both of them and I like how the Road Glide looks but the Street Glide felt better to me in stock form. I think with some new bars because the stock bars on both bikes are just awful and uncomfortable I think I could make the Road Glide feel like I want it to. I have 15” apes on my Street Bob and it made a HUGE difference, I also got a new seat and forward controls, both made a huge difference in the comfort of riding the bike. But who knows, when it’s time for me to finally get a new bike I’ll have to make that final decision and I don’t think I could go wrong with either of the bikes. Keep up the great work Tall, love the videos! ✌🏼

Awesome video dude! I’ve had a 2015 CVO Street glide and I’m looking to trade it in. I am leaning towards getting the road glide this time in this video really helped me a lot. Keep up the great work!

They’re both outstanding Harleys. I prefer and own a Streetglide

I agree the wind argument isn't really noticeable. Also the headlight being able to turn only helps when you are sitting still. When you are moving you aren't actually turning the handle bars enough to , make a difference. I don't use GPS or listen to music when I ride so neither system makes a difference to me. I like the way the gauges are on the Street more than the Road personally. Both good looking bikes and it would be a hard pick between the two, but I prefer the looks just a bit more on the Street.

I did not know the differences but seeing the street glide has the fairing mounted to The Handlebar I'm going with the street glide.

When I first got into motorcycles I knew I wanted a Harley. At first, I couldn’t stand the look of their touring bikes with fairings and ended up buying a Fatboy. Within six months I realized I needed storage and comfort for long distance riding. I purchased a 22 RGS and could not be happier. I couldn’t get use to the SG’s ugly batwing front end and feel the RG much more comfortable especially for taller riders.
