I have a sonos arc soundbar in an open plan set up. My sofa is basically in the middle of the room, which is sizeable and heads off to the dining area and kitchen area behind. I have built the TV in a media wall so putting a sub near there would spoil the aesthetics of the set up. Neither do I want to place a large sub behind the sofa as this will look out of place from the rear. I have 2 round matching coffee tables at either end of the sofa. I was considering placing a mini sub beneath each table, as it would balance the view and the sound around the sofa and room. Would 2 of these work well together in a system

Disabling WiFi causes issues for me. My beam gen 2 is plugged in via Ethernet and my era 300s are using WiFi. If I disable WiFi on the beam the era 300s cut in and out every couple of seconds. Enabling WiFi on beam and keeping it plugged in fixes this. No issues with this setup/setting for me.

I'm using the sub mini currently pared with a sonos beam and it's adding a nice layer of warm base to the sound. I'm usually pretty picki in sound an used to bigger and more powerful speakers, but there's something about the sonos speakers that's just sounding so good. They are perfect for listening to music in low or medium levels and then you don't have the need to turn up the volume they blend in nicely. Without the sub mini the beam wouldn't be strong enough for me. With the base I wish sonos would enable to use stereo speakers for TV to enhance the separation and punch from the front. 2 play one have more mids and volume than a beam. I would prefer the sub mini over surround speakers, because you're not always watching movies where the surround effects are more important than adding a hole new dimension of depth to the sound of films and music. We where using the sub mini and 2 play ones and a beam for a party and managed to fill a 60m^2 room with sound. I was surprised by the sub, the limiting factor where the loudness of the speakers. That's where real stereo speaker towers come into place.

The sub mini made a major difference for me! Best buy ever
@quitegenius Жыл бұрын
The sonos sub, both normal and mini is the weakest link of the surround setup, easily. I had SVS sb1000pro before I went surround sound and that thing beats the crap out of sub gen3. Now I know sonos is convenient and that’s why people buy it including me. But the sub just doesn’t have the tightness or depth that a good sub should offer. I would be willing to pay $1500 if Sonos came out with a sub like Kef kc62 rather than fancy looking things that can be vested by $200-300 HTIB subs. Honestly, everything else Sonos makes is amazing but the sub is just kinda disappointing, especially for music.
@mrgold3591 Жыл бұрын
It is nice to have choices depending on you listening needs, budget, room environment, and room aesthetics. There is always something better; but, I didn't want huge A/V unit and tower wired speakers dominating the family room like an oversized mancave.
@quitegenius Жыл бұрын
@@mrgold3591 Well, that's the reason people go for sound bars. But it would be good if they offered a decent sub, be it at extra cost.
@mrgold3591 Жыл бұрын
@@quitegenius Realistically, it is hard to find a decent sub for an A/V receiver system that isn't at an extra cost. I had a Nakamichi 7.2.4 system before Sonos. The dual subs from Nakamichi felt almost invisible and didn't contribute to 5.1 or Atmos experience as much as I liked. My office had a Sonos Beam Gen 1 (no Atmos), Gen 3 sub, and Symfonisk rear surrounds and that sounded noticeable better than the Atmos Nakamichi. Upgraded to the Sonos Arc, dual Gen 3 subs, and Fives are rear surrounds. The spouse and I have been very happy with the improved sound quality, whole house audio with 18 speakers total, ease of use/tuning, and blend into the background looks compared to the stand alone Nakamichi.

I am looking at buying my first home theatre system. I’m thinking of either getting an Apple TV 4K with dual HomePod 2s, or a Sonos Beam 2, with the option to add rear speakers and the sub mini later. So I’d love to see you make a video that compares the Apple and Sonos home theatre options. I like the look and the minimal footprint of the Apple system, but I’m thinking that the full Sonos system will be much better for home theatre / music listening.
@richardbuckingham4329 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I just rewatched your recent HomePod 2,and found it very helpful. We watch TV in the lounge room, so the system has to look good. It also has a very high ceiling, and we listen to music as much as we watch TV, maybe more. So I’m thinking the HomePods might be the way to go.
@EricWelander Жыл бұрын
Hey Richard, yes if you aren't looking for a cinematic experience, I would go with a pair of HomePods for decent set-it-and-forget-it sound. If you are looking to gradually upgrade your setup to become the ultimate home theater over time, that's where Sonos has a big advantage.

I don’t think these products are suitable for a proper home theater/stereo setup. Is it possible? Yes. Should you? Probably not. I have all three set up in my bedroom. I bought a Beam Gen 2 and shortly after I added one Era 300 (I am planning on adding a second at some point). The Era 300 was a great addition and made both the Beam and the Era generate great spatial and Dolby Atmos when working together. I just added a Sub Mini, which has been great so far and all three speakers sound incredible together. I am glad I bought them in the order that I did. If you are only looking to get one or the other right now, I would go with the Era and then add the sub at some point down the road. I can't speak for the Era 100 but I am definitely happy with the Era 300.

Having the same signal coming out of two separate homepod speakers is not what you call a stereo sound! That's basically a mono sound coming out of two separate speakers. (Big difference) I've had several soundbars and surround sound package but it was only when I purchased a budget AVR and a pair of budget speakers that I realised what I was missing, (stereo imaging, thumping bass, fully enveloping soundstage imaging etc) besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime... surround speakers, subwoofers one can even get height speakers and have the full non virtual Dolby Atmos experience. Nowadays AVRs has so simple to setup they even walk you through the process. Remember movies are made up of 50% visuals and 50% audio and there are occasions when the audio out does the visuals.

Actually as with most smart speakers, when you have two HomePods you can "pair" them and they will play in stereo.
@Totalplonker Жыл бұрын
@@shaolinrockstarthey may say it's stereo but it certainly not going to be able to receive a stereo signal! Here's a track I'm going to recommend to put this to bed. Whatever music streaming platform you use try playing Van Morrison Moondance (2013 remastered) as you listen to the track you should hear the saxophone coming out to the left stereo speaker and the piano coming out the right stereo speaker and for the stereo imaging you should hear Van Morrison's vocals coming out in between the speakers. Sometimes referred to as a phantom Centre. I tried leaving a link but unfortunately this channel was unable to accept it. Would be nice for verification not for my sake but other homepod users sake.

@@Totalplonkerthis is possible with most speakers that can be paired together now - including cheaper Bluetooth speakers. If you have two of the Sonos Era 100s, for example, you can pair them together and can listen to music in stereo. Not mono.
