Matter doesn't work with google. They will randomly go offline and need to be reset each time to reconnect. They know the issue and admitted that Google hasn't been willing to work with them to fix it and basically ignored them.

By now one would have thought IPV6 was enabled on every modern router. They were running out of IPV4 addresses a while back.

The BEST advice I can give is to get rid of that horrible trash tear modem that your ISP gives you. Replacing that fixed ALL my problems. I got an Eero 6 and my wifi is rock solid.

I did also wonder if Apple might offload “intelligence” requests to our phones. But I fear that’ll make them even slower than they already are. As you mentioned the HomePods are so slow/unreliable I hardly ever use them to control smart home devices (part of my original reason for buying them) because pulling out my phone to ask Siri is quicker and less prone to disaster (turning everything on including opening windows and running vacuums). Also small detail, but I like the fact we’ve come up with the same solution for mounting the FP2 underneath a magnetic HomePod mount 👌

I’ve also long come to the same conclusion about smart buttons and automations. My smart home ethos has gone from “Smart homes are about being able to control things with your phone or voice” To “Smart homes are about never needing to use your phone or voice, because everything just happens”

Nice review however I disagree with you in that people actually get projectors to watch 3D because TV's can't do that. Can I ask do you have a low ceiling or are you really tall ❓🤔

Hi Eric, I’ve ran into some challenges with Home Key. I’ve got the Schlage Wireless Encode Plus and while my wife and I can my phone and Apple Watch/iphone no problem, the kids devices seem not to work. Also, for guests, you STILL have to assign them a code. You cannot set it up to allow them to use their Apple Watches etc. Has that been your experience as well?

I think they would be much more intelligent when you didnt have to re-install then every 2 days. Or when apple home would stop loosing. Then every other day.

An AppleTV with an M2 cpu would be a kick ass device. Should be able to handle 8k video, be a great gaming console, handle AI for the homekit and generally do a lot of things. Not sure why Apple hasn't put out one yet.

People that install “Developer Betas” to their home devices or daily driver phones are the closest thing to Children that open up their Christmas gifts behind their parent’s back to get a sneak peak of what they’re getting. 😅😂 If you aren’t a developer updating apps for compatibility, u have no business installing developer betas on your smart home devices or iPhones and expecting seamless 😂xperiwnces.

On more than one occasion I have sent my thoughts to Apple’s feedback site regarding the development of a centralized HomeKit device that could not only act as a router replacement for the AirPort Extreme, but perhaps could also link together with HomePod minis to create a Wi-Fi mesh network. I’d be curious to know to what extent Apple reads any of these comments, but I would definitely encourage everyone to send feedback directly to the company.

to I'd love just be able to tell the homepod to use the iPhone Siri for their response. Homepod has the least features of all the "Siri's" yet is always the dominant one when at home. Will make using apple intelligence useless. Or switch it off or make Siri on a homepod useless

So why can't we set up something like my daily driver M2 Mac mini, or hell, a used M1 Mac mini as a dedicated server that all the small and cheap devices use as a cloud processor instead of going out to the actual cloud? Won't be as fast as on device maybe, but should as secure with your data.

To remain relevant Apple is going to have to work this out. Next destination is tech is all of us will have an individual AI with us and embedding one in our home is logical. The question is will it be networked AI or on device AI. On device AI fits Apples agenda but that does not make it a guaranteed winner and it remains the more challenging and expensive of the two for implementation. Looking to Nvidia it is clear that a basic device like their Jetson sits at around $600 and we can expect this to come down rapidly.

Another great video !...The iPhone 13's processor the A15 Bionic chip has the equivalent processing power of the M1 which is getting the "Apple Intelligence" feature...It even has the same Neural Engine as the M1 all iPhones sold since including the iPad mini 6 Apple needs to get this out of beta and in people's hands that's paid for this processing power. Much love from all the UK 😊

If you insult Siri you get "that's not nice" or " I won't respond to that" but if you start with "thank you for" or "you're good at" Siri is happy to respond to any insult. The next Siri is going to profile me to share my comments to my government if I speak against it.

I don't think your concept of scenes and assistants, and such is the same as mine. I don't WANT to install buttons and switches all over my house. I buy smart enabled devices and I do not mind (even currently) how Siri can turn my lights to a different hue, or lock my door. The whole smart home I thought, was getting things done NOT manually. Putting a button ON a desk instead of IN the wall is just installing a button or switch in a non traditional manner to me. I want my assistant to do this stuff....I want it to know MY voice and not that of influencers repeatedly saying her catch phrase and when I ask him/her to place something on my grocery list, it goes on MY grocery list. Being able to have Siri know and keep information about me secure in my eco system would be great for future orders through door-dash...Hey Siri order my go to Door-dash order and pay with my Apple card. Just convenience is all I need, but install more manual items all over my house...naw dawg that's gonna be a no from me.

It would make a lot of sense for them to make a new HomePod to gain new ai systems and the rumor about it with a screen has got me wondering as the rumor suggested we will see it with a iPad mini sometime this year but there is no new iPad mini at the moment to support the ai features so Apple could just make a new iPad mini with the m4 chip which would handle the ai since Apple announces product in the fall with iPhones, Apple Watch, iPads sometimes, AirPods, and this new HomePod could be a consideration in September or October this year I this this new HomePod could unveil the rumored homeOS which could be something to make users home more alive with ai in their systems and products I definitely think this is possible this year but we will see.
@EricWelander

I am not sure on the homeOS side and I bet the new iPad mini would come with an M2 chip. Still it would likely have the specs to handle Apple Intelligence and could be a cost-competitive option for using at home.

They likely won't get LLM-based processing of requests, unless there's a way to send that over to more powerful devices in your home. That will likely be slower and not coming soon as Apple hasn't announced anything around it yet.
@peteroffiong242
@peteroffiong242 10 күн бұрын
Doesn't this need the newer chips to work meaning all current HomePods won't work with Apple Intelligence? Guessing this is why they didn't mention it at all and are probably looking to update the chips in September
@EricWelander
@EricWelander 10 күн бұрын
There’s a good chance older models could relay requests to a newer model, and older ones would continue to work as-is without new hardware in the home. But yes I bet there’s another hardware part to drop here before they have more to say
