At first I didn’t realize the “video” of the athletes was actually photos in a sequence! Love your perspective here and I’m glad camera companies are noticing your channel more!

As a sports photographer who has to cull, edit, and file photos at halftime/between quarters/periods of games, I think it would be really cool if there was a way to record on 2 cards at once with different burst modes (maybe one card at 10 fps and one at 120 fps, or something like that) so photographers can rely on one card for editing in a pinch but can also dive into the bigger pool of files when needed. Maybe another way to do this would be for Lightroom or bridge or photo mechanic or whatever to do it on their end, so when you’re culling you can see a max of 10 frames from any given second, but have an option to view the intermediate frames if you choose.
@benjhaisch Жыл бұрын
Totally. One of the remedies at least from eating images on the go that I didn’t show is that it will group the bursts together and let you preview them as a video file and pause where you want to rate them for quick delivery. Not perfect but still a solid option.

I'm excited for what this will mean in the future for being able to remove shutters and hopefully resulting in smaller camera bodies and lenses without leaf shutters
@benjhaisch Жыл бұрын
I think Hasselblad is the only one still making leaf shutter lenses [outside of the Fujifilm X100 series], but yes. Hopefully this will allow some more innovation in general.

Great video Benj. I agree, around 32 megapixels is the sweet spot for me. Give me a global shutter sensor with 32MP, decently high framerates (I dont need more than 30, 60 is overkill, 120 is madness) , a native base ISO of 50, and I would be very happy for a very long time. [also given the rest of the camera's specs/capabilities are excellent too like existing stuff out there] This camera is so high end and cutting edge it's not for me, but seeing how this tech disperses through the camera world is going to be exciting...Fuji GFX with global shutter? Leica M with global shutter? Ricoh GR with global shutter? Here's hoping it doesn't take too long for non-top tier pro sports cameras to get a good version of this tech up and running.

In your history of shooting sports, did you ever use a film camera like a motorized Nikon F2? If you did, do you think you could have gotten that shot realizing that you were not dependent on the electronics of a camera, but your finger on the shutter release button. Since 1972, I shot many pictures with Pentax to Nikon cameras and we always looking for the exact moment to take a shot. I did some photojournalism in the U.S. Air Force base newspapers. It was my Nikon F2 and Tri-X working hard to take that 'once in a lifetime' picture.'

Hey Benj! Great video as always. One question: why were you shooting sports with a 5D4 instead of a 1DX? You probably wouldn’t have missed that shot. I’ve shot motorsports with my old 5D3, and captured some nice images. However, it was not the ideal tool for the job.
@benjhaisch Жыл бұрын
The 5DIV wasn’t released until 2016? And sure, I was also only making $250/game so buying a 1D series just wasn’t going to make any financial sense at the time.

Having this beast for almost a year. This camera really a monster for both photo and video. But remember, U need at least a V60 SDXC or CF Express type A for using the 4K120fps and the 120fps at bursting photos. 😉

Yes, please make a video of your 10 years in photography, and another where you tell what gear you are using at weddings, because I understand that if you are selling the two M10s to buy a single M11, you are using other gear for weddings. the Sony? with Sony lenses or with your Leica lenses?
@thomaschamberlin2485 Жыл бұрын
The Sony rep said that this 24.6 MP sensor allowed the global shutter, so I take that to mean that they are not yet able to do this with a larger sensor. Remember, the Red Kimodo video camera with global shutter had an APS-C sensor. Size does matter. I have seen a couple of videos where the creator thought the jpegs seemed to have about a stop of noise more than their other cameras. As you said, we will have to wait and see what the production model brings. I also heard somebody say they checked the firmware and it was listed as 0.8 (LOL).
@benjhaisch Жыл бұрын
Haha yes I won’t judge anything based on jpegs or pre pro firmware [my copy was 0.8 as well]

@Slipsch11 ай бұрын
Tbh, I'm not excited at this camera cause I'm not their target audience for this. What I would like to see is to have this global shutter in a ZV-E1 style body (same size), with all the dials (3 of them on the left size), more rugged form factor but still maintain the same size, put in the best LCD possible with A7RV style screen, squeeze in solid state cooling fan from Frore Systems so it doesn't overheat, dual card slots. And for Sony to release 1.8 series of lenses that is matched, minimal focus breathing, same size and weight something like what Panasonic is doing and add in computational photography for "auto" mode for days that I just want a nice picture with one click. Now that would be a dream camera to own. Though it's technologically possible, it's not viable, but let's see what the future brings.
@johnadams3038 Жыл бұрын
Ita kinda game changing to niche photography like sports and fast action but not so much for 90% of photography overall.
@endah08 Жыл бұрын
Is it though? Like the specs are crazy but they could only be useful to the smallest of niches. Rolling shutter isn't that big of an issue anyway. What would be a bigger game changer is if Sony could sort out their Ibis and support their new firmware across their product line. Even your example with the Seahawks, sure more FPS would have got that moment but I think 10x the FPS would easily suffice no need to 20x. 30 FPS would have gotten that moment.

For sure, impressive specs, the new A9 III, on paper. But for 99% of all photographers, especially *if* they aren't sports shooters, it simply doesn't matter, really. As for the value, into >10y from now on, this A9 Mark III doesn't hold a candle anymore, still great, but outdated tech. Not so Leica, *if* one buys into that M system, it's even more worth into >10y than nowadays, because the prices are sadly always rising. No, i don't own one, just saying.

A definite buy as a main camera body for my weddings! 24mp is great too as I can switch back to my big collection of 64gb memory cards again 😊 As long as the electronics last inside I can’t really see a reason why I’d need to buy another camera for another 10x years other than fomo.

It would be a pretty crap landscape camera it's not in my wheelhouse and considering that landscape photographers generally shoot at one frame per second has no relevance to a landscape photographer whatsoever this is the sports and action camera only you don't even need a global shutter for portrait photography and again 26 megapixels is bare minimum for portrait photography
