@pobrengmoturista6 жыл бұрын
Bowing in martial art means respect, respect to opponent as human being and nothing to do with religion, if you can see how others bow like fist and open hand together, it means “NEVER STRIKE FIRST” or simply “DEFENSE”. Martial Arts learning is not about learning to hurt others or to defeat others but defeating oneself and life preservation by defending and not offensing,

Catholics goes against the bible? why catholics goes against the bible if they're the one who compiled it and declaire the words of God and named it bible? If you cant trust the catholics, then dont trust the bible. Telling us that we were misunderstanding the bible because it doesnt match the teaching of your human founder seems kinda awkward. Miko Sandejas I think it's quite pathetic to tear someone down for drawing some self confidence and or respect for their heritage. Pride is more common from the bottom looking up than the top looking down. You should probably find something in your life/culture to be proud of instead of devaluing others. Moreover FMA is closely associated with resistance forces in the phillipines and the sheer fact that FMA exists despite it's suppression for hundreds of years is admirable. This also explains why it appears so 'secretive'.

Guro Dan had made the name known in the western world decades ago, but kali didn't pick up now because of him. kali is picking up on its own, because it's being used by philippine forces and it has been known to be used effectively then other international special forces picked up. the real legends are the special forces that are using it in actual situations to effectively KILL (not for show). i have heard of some local stories (officially reported also) but they are anonymized such as a certain officer in mindanao who used a single blade to kill 6 abu sayaff members. these are the kind of stories that have made kali shine and get picked up by international forces---real world situations. great respect for guro dan but i'm not sure why he should take the spotlightlight here

Great conversation, but I'm disappointed on two counts: 1) I know, politics, but you talk about how FMA is becoming familiar in the West and opening up in the Philippines but no one mentions Guro Dan Inosanto. I'd like to hear the name of one person who did more in the 20th century to make that happen than he did. 2) The title of this post is BS. You don't really talk about SF at all other than to say that they've hired some of you to teach. They hire all sorts of people to teach. It's recreation. The rest of the time they practice how they actually fight which mostly involves shooting and blowing shit up.

@ChucksSEADnDEAD9 жыл бұрын
Then it's a rubbish technique, if knowing them nullifies it's effectiveness. Everyone knows boxing. You know what the jab, straight, hook and uppercut are. But even Holifield could catch you with any of those.

Filipe Amaral what d fook! its fuck#ng common sense. if an opponent knows ur technique then u still have strength and speed as a factor to win fights! but u lose ur element of surprise..

***** >"if an opponent knows ur technique then u still have strength and speed as a factor to win fights! but u lose ur element of surprise.." And if you rely on surprise, then you've already lost because you can be surprised yourself. FMA must have to work on someone who's trained in FMA and untrained people alike. That's why it's a system. If it's not a system, it's just a move set.

Filipe Amaral ull be surprised that fundamentally all ur training is merely to surprise ur opponent.. aint that a shocking revealation?

I trained with two of the best Arnis/Kali/Escrima instructors: Professor Danilo Paulo and Tujon Leo Gaje and these two guys are the most humble and very unassuming people I have ever met and known but don't mistake these virtues as servitude or being underdogs. They can kill you in a matter of seconds bare handed or with weapons. Tujon Leo Gaje and I came from the same hometown, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental and I also trained with Professor Danilo Paulo while I was in Queens, New York. The whole world has been wondering why FCA(Filipino Combat Arts) is not as known or as popular as other martial arts is because the instructors from the older generation, two I named above, do not emphasize on commercialization but teaching only responsible or deserving individuals instead. These two great instructors never asked nor enticed me for money nor material things that I felt embarrassed and humbled at times while I trained under them. Once in a while, when the timing is right, I would buy them breakfast or lunch just to show them my appreciation and they would even get mad at me for doing those things, thinking that I am bribing them for somethin in return. Another reason why FCA is not popular is because it is mostly passed on to family members, close friends and relatives. I call Arnis/Kali/Escrima as Filipino Combat Arts because there roots are from warriors dating back to pre-colonial Spanish era and it is more geared toward offense not defense. We proact not react and we do not put 'do' at the end of the martial arts' name. The best offense is the best defense. Another thing, we just don't talk about it too much because there is a saying in Filipino culture: a river that is deep is quiet but a river that is shallow is loud. Modesty aside, I hope these will answer your questions.

The reason why International Special Forces train in these Filipino Martial Art is because we used it effectivly against the US Army in the conflict known in history as the "Philippine Insurrection" that is the longest war that America ever fought and lost, from 1898 to 1947 when the US government decided to call it quits and just surrender back to us our freedom and independence

The upper class there will fight against this art, while there are new schools being built there,when it comes to the bladed hand these upper class view it as savage.
@nickb27868 жыл бұрын
Savage? What is a real fight if it's not savage. The skill is designed to kill, not your typical martial art exhibition. Having said that. It takes real responsibility to own such skill. Its not easy, specially if your under stress and and a lot of pressure. Combine that with adrenaline and rage and you have a beast in your hand. This is the reason why the real kali/Eskrima/Arnis is not widespread
@steveo275458 жыл бұрын
Have you lived there or trained there i think not,i meet no masters that i would consider full of rage,most did think they where un beatable, to even get one of the old school masters to train me, i had to basically get a beating,once i got my beating,had to get a chicken sacrificed and my body was cover in it blood, while i stood in a circle naked all night,again the blade stuff is frowned upon by the upper class pinoy,The stick is gaining more popularity but the blade again is frowned on,Doug is on the black list this is why he can not go there, not sure why since he says he will one day be able to return ha maybe only get a year, i have many knives they question me on each knife use, may answer was it's a knife it is made to cut and kill things,i have train in this since i was a very small boy and only from very old men.
@nickb27868 жыл бұрын
lol Where the hell did you get your training that you have to sacrificed a chicken. Its either you're handed a stick and thats basically it....your training start. No bullshit, no ceremony. Whats the difference between the stick, the knife, the pen, the fork, the screwdriver, etc? Nothing....when it comes to Arnis. It does shows your ignorance of arnis but im not about to start the history of arnis. The stick is for training (can be use as a weapon as well) and your training is for...to use any weapon (including bladed weapons), including any objects available in time of confrontation....and dont forget your hands. Obviously, you havent been involved in a real fight either and not some bullshit tournament. A lot of arnis school ive seen are not even near practical in a real fight.....they might as well call it twirling sticks. You watched those 2 guys try to hit each other with 2 sticks each and everybody goes ohh ahhh. Give me one stick and ill cut both of them at the same time. My training was handed down from a relative and we used to have a full on sparring with hard core guys (guys that are in prison) Everytime, you face an opponent either for real or for sparring, you should have the mentality and the attitude of either you ready to get hurt or to hurt the other guy. If your just practicing the form without the spirit, i guarantee you, your training wont stand a chance against an unskilled opponent who is determined to hurt you. Old masters always do it with controlled rage. So you either dodge their strike or get out of their way or learn to counter it My point is...a training should be always a simulation of real life situation and its not for show, is not to be admired by the audience....its meant to make you survive a real fight. Yes, during sparring, you are ready to kill the other guy and if so happened the other guy made a mistake and presented his head an inch too close to your distance....ohh well....shit happen....and it does happen a lot.......but thats how we learn by, the end of the day we shake hands....its part of the training. A famous national arnis association have once visited us and was interested in sparring with us but before that happened they watched us spar. After that, they declined to spar with us, they called us barbarians Lastly, there's a quiet a few so called upper class who knows the real old way....question is ..... who is gonna inherit it or are they gonna bring this skill to their grave.....after all .... killing by combat is not a way of life anymore. I might bring mine to grave as well since i couldn't find anybody who has the right aptitude, not even my own son.

First training just a man who liked me i was 5 i called him Lolo which is Grand Father in Bisayan. My other training was a old master in a small town in Cebu his name was Dudo, i liked the old Masters myself.The difference in a stick and a smaller object is simple distance,you would not survive the training with a old school master,you think you know to much,there are many school in Cebu only a few of the old masters remain,While Dudo was old, men came from many nations just to watch him,you could not train in his small school without passing the test which was a you are out number and you must face certain death or ass whipping and if you passed that you had to endure the ceremony, this is the way of the Escrinador, i do not question any master in any Martial Art,went to my class Monday was not allowed in the class the Sifu said i had to much anger for the class, i not feel anger but to argue with the master would not be wise so i just left,did leave the food i had brought ,I, had a good kick boxing class tonight. Hagkilmong Lobot Babay is my name when i step up to fight,i like the name,yes arrogant is the name, but it fits my mentality. I move back to Cebu in November.will try to live in small island called Camotes,peaceful island,they are making a new school there,it has no ceremony you have money they will train you,i have talk with the master i not care for him,gets drink too much and is not a Filipino,maybe i will like him better in person. Mabuhay pare. Buang lalaki ikaw,dakog braso mas masahol pa sa hayop

Victor Hartmann I read somewhere that Doug had some expierence with random altercations in the Phillipines. There's also a interview on this channel how he talks about experiencing violence and how people cope with that and some related subjects. Also, if Ray comes from the poorer districts near Manila then he might've pulled a knife on someone more than once (not necessarily doing harm, but pulling nonetheless). But that's just some assumptions only one can make from his background.

I’ve always wanted to train in the discipline of my ancestors. Wish it was easier to find for myself, but at the same time I understand it’s so special and deadly that there is that need for careful consideration on who to teach it to. Right now with this spike in anti-asian attacks, I wish I would’ve started when I wanted to better protect myself and my family. Thanks for posting & sharing.
