Filipino here! Just so you know, the stick-fighting is beginning level, afterwards you move onto knives (blunt of course when youre training) and then open-handed fighting once you mastered the previous ones. Let's say, you get conditioned by legit getting thrown into the fire.

Now this is what I call a "NO NONSENSE" style of the Philippine martial art of Eskrima; aka FMA. This is a GREAT example of the Philippine art of stick fighting whether you call it Eskrima, Kali, or Arnis. Very few FMA schools teach such a "combative" version of Eskrima to the level this is. Just look at the other You Tube videos out there and you will not find another video that includes training quite like this. This is the "real deal!" So, if you're looking for a FMA School of Eskrima, you cannot think that every school teaches, and trains, a student of FMA to this level -- they are NOT all the same as this. They might pretend to be, but they're not. I am an instructor of the Serrada style of Eskrima myself and I've trained in a similar fashion for full-contact stick fighting. I really like the specific and fundamental drills taught here to prepare for full-contact stick-fighting or self-defense. This is REALLY GOOD and probably is some of the best weapons combat technique that I have see yet. I really like the way these instructors teach. Instead of a heavy bag, I hang a tire from a short rope to work my flip-hitting, quick-striking, and power-striking techniques, as well as sinawali double-stick striking drills. To quote Bruce Lee, "The best defense is a good offense". And yes, my bamboo looking piece of rattan is not obvious, but always nearby. Keep in mind, Eskrima is not without empty-handed fighting techniques. And what you see here can be translated directly to bladed weapons; e.g., knife or machete(bolo). I would expect that knife fighting drills and exercises similar to this would also be part of this training at some point.
@aldavedesierdo42 Жыл бұрын

If you're not used to the distance and parry angles of stick or edged weapons, it's extremely confronting. There's heaps of motion economy to learn along with the balance of the weapon in your hand. I wouldn't be able to do much better than you Jeff, and I've been trained in swords and sticks for 10 years. Cool vid. Now go and visit a kendo dojo!
