Indeed, but, it has excellent low speed turning capabilities, so if it can get something to turn with it, the bleeding of the speed on both jets won’t affect the Hornet as heavily, and if they other tried to fly away, the Hornet has a turning circle that more than means they can can get a Sidewinder away ;) it’s about playing to strengths, in the real world the Typhoon would blap the Hornet before it got close enough to see the Typhoon, but the Hornet would do everything it could to drag the Typhoon in closer, and slower!

@@grahamburks2895 I forgot about that, i used to check the net height when on Duty Crew ( I was a Leckie). Get ATC to switch to local and then raise at the barrier to check net, then lower and get ATC to switch back to remote. Had a good one at Bruggen in 1992, net was fine at evening checks and then in the morning it was GONE. A fully loaded VC10 the previous night sent it flying and knackered the two towers.

Having the Swiss training here is a very good idea and they are most welcome. I remember hearing a sonic boom when walking in Altstetten as a Swiss jet was sent to intercept a straying US fighter. They can fly fast over Switzerland but probably only when necessary. There is a pressure group trying to hobble the Swiss airforce and more or less disarm the army for 'environmental reasons'. The real reasons are more political. Luckily the troublesome referenda have not passed up to now.

I'm not in the least bit surprised at the Swiss being trained by the RAF. It is no secret that RAF pilot training is among the best in the World. the Swiss Air Force should replace it's present fleet of aging F/A-18C Hornet multi role fighter (including the five F/A-18D multi role fighter variant) with the new F-15EX Strike Eagle II multi role interdictor strike fighter . . . acquiring the F/A-18C Hornet multi role fighter & F/A-18D multi role fighter variant back in the mid 1980s - early 1990s was more of a political decision than strategic national defense . . . SAF can also opt for a fleet of 43 - 49 brand new Dassault Rafale F4.2 (Block IIIB) multi role interdictor strike fighter which is more recent airframe compared to the heavily upgraded F-15EX Strike Eagle II multi role interdictor strike fighter . . . not to mention SAF's aging fleet of F-5E Tiger II light multi role fighter that should have been retired years back . . . the BAE Hawk 132 (Block IV) multi role advanced jet trainer could be apt for the Swiss Air Force as the final tier 3 jet trainer for trainee pilots . . .
