The Assad regime has been steadily weakening for years with no significant progress since 2016, to the point where it can no longer provide its soldiers with even the minimum, sustainable salaries needed to survive, severely depleting its capabilities. Additionally, Hezbollah's well-trained ground forces, which had been a key support for the regime, withdrew to Lebanon after suffering heavy losses due to Israeli offensives. Furthermore, Russia, which had provided crucial air support, has scaled back its involvement as its focus has shifted to the war in Ukraine. The combined effect of these three factors has rendered the regime's military position increasingly obsolete.

different groups involved. Mostly islamists with Al-Qaida origin - they declared they separated from al-qaida though and only fighting for Syria. Not sure for its true. Assad is a minority leader that only holds on power by help of russia and islamists like hisbollah and iranian militia. Islamists too, just a different faction.

Authoritarian regime by its nature runs short on forces . Specially when you need them to support regime and outward threats. Policing your territory and others always come up short of forces. This is the case of Syria. They don’t have Russians to support them. This sure sign of Russia is the natural spiral of authoritarian regime in the drain.
