I agree that this is likely Pecharunt's version of the story. It's not necessarily a lie. It's like a story told from the perspective and vocabulary of a child. Pecharunt interprets its mind control as "taming" or "making friends". Pecharunt thinks the loyal three follow it out of companionship, unaware that they are that way under its will. I think Ogerpon's confrontation started outside the village and the fight made its way into the village. After killing the loyal three within or near the village, where the masks likely got lost and picked up by the villagers, Ogerpon chased down Pecharunt to a forest outside the village. The villagers didn't spot pecharunt with it being small and thought ogerpon was retreating.

This is kinda what I assumed, everyone's version of the story painted themselves in the best light in one way or another, with the one Kieran's grandpa telling being "Ogerpon's story" and probably the closest to the truth (Though with how long it's been, details may have been lost, it's possible this one has some stuff wrong too). Pecharunt is like a needy child with powers it doesn't completely understand, and villagers misinterpreted a conflict between a few Pokemon that was intended to not make it to the village.

This. It really seems like Pecharunt is unaware of the effects of its mochi, and doesn't realize that it's manipulating people. Like, it's not mind controlling people so much as causing people to get addicted to its mochi and then unintentionally exploiting that addiction to get what it wants, because that's how its always been treated. That's why it's portrayed as feeding the Loyal Three mochi when it gives the order to fight, it's drawn out the loyal three's greed and it needs to feed that greed to make them actually stand and fight for it despite their cowardice. It's an abuser that's simultaneously being abused by its victims, in a sense. It just wants to be loved, but because of its ability to draw out greed, it's virtually incapable of having healthy relationships, because if it feeds those it cares about its mochi, then their care for it will become conditional. But since that's all it's ever known, it doesn't see any issue with treating others, like the loyal three, the same way. Which leads to a vicious cycle of mutual abuse, relationships built more on what each party can provide the other rather than whatever genuine care may or may not exist. Perhaps the player can help it break that cycle, by showing it genuine, unconditional care, and showing it that it doesn't need to use its mochi or provide endlessly for people to care about it.

@@Missingno_MinerThis is also why Pecharunt is timid yet did all of this. It was scared (because its timid, go figure) when it was woken up and tried feeding people its mochi because it was in an unfamiliar place. By feeding people its mochi, it knows that they will like it, at least, thats what it thinks. In reality, it just caused a zombie apocalypse of mochi that it thought was just people helping it out in exchange for its mochi

The Okidogi thing is wrong. The video says that Pecharunt brought along Okidogi, which it had tamed with its mochi. And earlier, it said that Pecharunt used more of its mochi to get the things the old couple wanted. So logically, Pecharunt used its mochi to tame Okidogi, who then got the things the villagers wanted. And when it was time for Pecharunt to leave, it took Okidogi with it

I don't see the two stories as conflicting, I think they're both true. The pecharunt story doesn't portray ogerpon out to be a bad guy because pecharunt is still stealing from them in the untold story. They never said that the old couple had the masks stolen by them from ogerpon or anything. The pecharunt story is just here to give context to pecharunt, not change what happened.
@kallyle6611

I think that this might very much be a case of “Even Evil Has Loved Ones” in regards to Pecharunt. It isn’t as innocent as presented here, but it genuinely wanted to please the old couple. Heck, maybe the old couple were just as greedy as the Mythical from the get-go and the part of them being under the mochi’s influence is the part Pecharunt’s lying about? As for the Loyal Three, their eyes are a different color than the ones that those under Pecharunt’s control have, (the “heroes” have yellow eyes while those possessed have purple eyes), so I think that there’s a difference in the relationship between it and its retainers in comparison to the humans that have eaten its mochi. Most likely they were on the same wavelength in terms of greed, so Pecharunt decided to give them autonomy and make them retainers as opposed to brainwashed servants as a sign of trust.

I think the reason is that Ogerpon, whose only mask was the Teal Mask (which increases speed when she "Embodys Aspect" (aka the ablilty she gets when terastalizing)) at the time, was just so speedy that she could beat all of them up before they could react. Knock out the frail Munkidori so they can't predict her moves, beat up the other two before they can get the better of her, and then finish off the ringleader, Pecharunt. The animation showed Ogerpon as a blur so its likely that she was just so inherently fast (especially with her ANGER and urge for vengeance for her beloved friend (her only one, because she is lonely by nature) and masks) that they couldn't hold a candle to her
@brettpalmer1770
@brettpalmer1770 4 ай бұрын
A long comment, but it is a theory I been thinking on. I think it is possible that the loyal three weren't poison types at the time and got that type during revival. Pecharunt is likely a unreliable narrator since he was depicted as a trainer in the art work of the sign and people never mentioned a forth Pokemon in the story. The pokemon's powers seems to work very differently from what we saw and what we were told. It is also convenient that the only people who could have back Pecharunt's story was an elderly couple who lived long ago and far away. Pecharunt is a ghost type as well, in case you were wondering what happened to that young trainer. The toxic chains I think were representing the town idealizing what were at least muggers and worst murders. The chains are also similar the knitted covering that the town put on those statues representing the loyal three. The Pokedex also said that the chains changed the other type of this pokemon which I think also completes the metaphor. The dog represents a toxic hero (poison fighting), the bird represents a toxic myth (poison fairy), the monkey represents a toxic mindset (poison physic). I think that they were likely route one pokemon first when the kid came to town to try and take those masks for himself. I also think it is no coincidence that the pokemon came into existence once the old narrative was being challenged, the spirit of that young trainer was probably resting peacefully when the locals perceive them and his pokemon to be a heroes. However, when the locals learned that wasn't true the ghost tried to take over the town. Anyway that is what I now think is what happened.

Argument for the Okidogi point: The narrator said that Pecharunt, when it set out, brought Okidogi, who it *had* tamed. Past tense. So Okidogi was already tamed before he left the village.

Yeah I think that Pecharunt is a pretty tragic character. He loves the old couple but, being under his control, the real old couple was already long gone when Pecharunt left for Kitakami. The Loyal Three are also under its control, and it seems to care a lot about them, but their friendship is fake, which is sad. But I guess they could also be interpreted as them only being given the toxic chain, not controlled by mochi at all, and they really are its friends. It could have been nice if the Loyal Three wouldn't be catchable until you're done with the epilogue, as they would intervene in the Pecharunt fight, either by its side... or by ours, trying to help their friend come to its senses and stop this madness. Also I think that people don't have to do the chicken dance when possessed by Pecharunt, but he makes them dance in the Epilogue because, despite being dangerous, he's also a goofy little prankster and finds it funny (because it is kinda funny).

@@heartivore Oh thanks. So when we see Ogerpon but she rans away without her mask, we don't pay attention to Carmine and tell Kieran. He wants to go see the Ogre. So we accompany him, and though she's reluctant at first, Carmine catches up with us. But Ogerpon is nowhere to be seen. We have her mask, but just like in the cutscene before, she seems to be specifically scared of Carmine. We don't find Ogerpon anywhere and decide to go back. Kieran can't even be disappointed that they didn't see her this time. He's too excited over the fact that she actually exists. The next day, we show the mask to Kieran's grandfather who tells us the true story. But this time Kieran is here too, which makes Carmine mad. After that, we go find the last signboard with him. The next day, we go with Kieran to the crystal pool to fix the mask. But when we're back, we learn that Carmine stole the mask. We catch up to her and she expresses her anger that Kieran spends all of his time with us and ignore her completely. Kieran, who's a bit more confident thanks to having our support, stands up to her and tells her that he's tired of her behavior and doesn't want her to control his life anymore, which makes her even more mad. She stole the mask in an attempt to give it back to Ogerpon, become her friend, and with the Ogre by her side, have Kieran come back to her. She proposes a battle and the winner gets the mask. Of course we win, she punches the Loyal Three's shrine and leaves. The Loyal Three come back to life, Carmine comes back, we defeat the Loyal Three with Kieran and while she tells the villagers the true story of Ogerpon. Though Ogerpon is still scared of her. Once we bring Ogerpon back to her cave, she wants to come with us and Kieran is fine with it since we didn't break his trust in this version of the events, so he knows we'll be a good trainer for her. Carmine though she's having none of it. She blames us and Ogerpon for taking Kieran away from her, and she decides to oppose us to know who will catch Ogerpon, following her original plan of having Ogerpon by her side to have Kieran come back to her. But we beat her. In the ending cutscene, she's the one promising she'll get revenge and tying her hair up. In the Indigo Disk, Kieran is the one welcoming us, while she's the one who defeated the BB Academy Elite 4 and turned it into a toxic environment. Kieran asks us to stop her because he's not strong enough to do so, and scared of her. We reach the Champion fight and defeat her, and when Drayton comes to be sassy, she punches him in the face. It didn't help at all and her rage reaches new heights. Then she hears about Terapagos from Briar, and we all go to Area Zero. She catches Terapagos, it becomes uncontrollable and after we save her life from Terapagos, she realizes her mistake. Instead of feeling useless like Kieran, she gets mad... but at herself this time. When it's over, it seems that she finally calms down, but just like in the original story, she never apologizes for what she's done. In Mochi Mayhem, she invites us to Kitakami with Arven, Penny and Nemona. But clearly something's wrong, as Kieran is dancing and saying Mochi mochi. Carmine has no idea why he does that. But besides that, everything is fine until Nemona disappears and the whole town is dancing weirdly. Carmine and us are about to catch up with Nemona, but Arven and Penny need help so we go back, which upsets Carmine who wants to keep going. Carmine and us defeat possessed Arven and Penny and, as Pecharunt escapes, Carmine follows after it saying "What do you think you're doing ?" We follow after her and reach where Nemona is. But the whole town of possessed people followed us and we're trapped. That's when Carmine reveals that she's the one behind it all. Nobody likes her. Everyone thinks she's a nuisance and the one person she had left, Kieran, left her because of us. In her eyes at least because the reason he left her is because she's toxic and overcontrolling, which is why she's makes a good pair with Pecharunt who is a poison type and can control people. So she controlled everyone, starting with Kieran, and set up this trap to get revenge on us. We're alone and surrounded by all the townfolks. We can't do anything. That's when the Loyal Three appear. They want to free their master/friend, but they can't beat Nemona, nor Carmine on their own. So they hold off the townfolks while we beat Nemona and Carmine with Pecharunt. Once it's done, Carmine finally apologizes and understands all of her mistakes, as after we beat her and free Pecharunt, she explains her emotions and we tell her that she can't control people and that she needs to work on herself if she wants to be liked. Pecharunt is still upset of being caught by her and makes her dance for a bit. After that, it's really over.

We do have something interesting still untouched. THE Cursed Treasure Pokemon. The Unknown kingdom Isn't Kitakami It isnt any region we know of yet. It was also using Greed to control the king of Paldea. While the Area Zero Expeditions ruined the king financially the Disaster Treasures were ruining the Region externally. There is also one last thing. Who sealed all of them. Pecharunt was definitely in a sealed state along with the loyal 3 and the 4 Disasters. It was a wandering trainer.. There is also the Fact Ogrepon would be Truly ancient. Was she Sealed along side the others only to awaken should the Loyal 3 awaken again? The 4 masks also share the Disaster pokemon typings and minor resemblance to them. There was also the cursed gift of an invasive species like bamboo to Paldea from this same unnamed far off region That brings it all together. The final one is the Tera Crystals Are somehow linked to all of this Again. The masks are made of them the far off country if Pecharunts tale is to hold an inkling of truth means this far of country had at the very least the Knowledge of these crystals and desired anything of them. It seems in the Modern line Crystals are the Key to the lore still. From Megas to Z moves, Dynamaxing to Teras, All controlled by essentially more crystals. Now we have Terapagos and the empty plot there still. We still have no idea if Terapagos is a wish maker or reality bender we do know one thing it can make closed time loops. The Secret of Area Zero is still kicking and Lore still untouched. A: Who is this Evil Country. B: Who sealed all of the Legendaries. C: How did Kieren Break the Seal. D: How does the PC break the seals of the 4 Disasters. E: The Time machine's True Nature and how Terapagos isnt powering it directly. I felt like the witnesses of Ogerpon's wrath were easily explainable as we got more info. We know her trainer died in the cave. We also were told in the game to my recollection that the village people talked about it in a way that sounded like it was a chase. It was messy, she chased them down and attacked them with all her might, and it makes sense that they would flee to the village because they probably sought protection from the people of the village. The irony is, the village people were just as paralyzed and scared. What were they supposed to do? When they came running toward town, following them came Ogerpon in a fit of rage. She came crashing through, and the bystanders could have easily thought Ogerpon was an aggressive monster. Since she stopped attacking and left with their demise, the village people must've thought they staved off the ogre. To them, they protected the village. That seems to be the narrative.

The story of Ogerpon didn't specifically say that it happened in the center of the village, it could have happened close enough to it that the residents took notice, and just antagonized the ogre in the process. I have a feeling since the story was from long ago that the fight took place on "Apple Hill" since it is not only close to the villiage, but also an open feild with small trees, saying that they were there for I'm geussing 12 years. It also explained how Pecharunt was able to roll on down to eventually be found by Peachy. And just to clarify, "Long time" probably is ment by about 50 years, since I believe the story was said to be passed down by generation, and we dont really know the average life span of humans in the world of Pokémon.

Kieran mentions that his grandfather’s many times great-grandfather was a mask maker and that the job had been passed down for several generations. So the story could have started that far back or sometime over the last couple hundred years. Depending on the era they want to base it on, keeping in mind Japan was locked to outside trade meaning no foreigners for a long time since this is a Japanese-based region.

Loved the video! I was very skeptic after seeing the short story, like it didn’t line up with what the Teal Mask and Mochi Mayhem presented. And seeing everyone online not questioning it made me really confused, like, why were these old people not fully under Pecharunt’s control but everyone else just turns into a chicken?? If Ogerpon did fight the quartet in the middle of nowhere why would the Loyal 3 be seen as heroes and Ogerpon as a wrathful ogre? Generally this felt really weird to me, and until proven otherwise my headcanon is that Pecharunt IS INDEED trying to make himself look good by controlling Pokémon’s socials (I mean cmon now, that MOCHI MOCHI seems to basically confirm it).

Yeah it’s pretty evident that something doesn’t add up. I don’t necessarily think that Pecharunt is “evil” evil, but I do see him as a sort of toxic/bratty “person”. To me he just wants to be liked and so manipulates people and pokemon alike into doing so, not caring about anybody but himself and lying about what truly happened with Ogerpon, at least that’s how I see it. I mean his ability is literally “poison PUPPETEER” if that’s not a sign of a manipulative individual I don’t know what is.

Thinking more on it too, Pecharunt forcing the chicken dance in modern day (as opposed to way back when with the old couple) could be explained as it being very social media savvy and aware of modern treads (aka what better way to get ppls attention on the internet than a viral tiktok dance meme 😅but also the chicken dance is very....old? so it comes across as out of touch too, like he's trying too hard to be liked and fit in maybe)

Something I noticed is that when you can see the village in the background, the color of the light is more of an orange color rather than a yellow color most town lights have. Probably a metaphor for Pecharunt's oblivious nature to the destruction it causes around it.

In Pecharunt's story, it feels it needs Fezandipiti for Fezandipiti's pheromones, supposedly to control people and pokemon who avoided eating the mochi. The narrator describes what Pecharunt feels it needs from each of its "retainers." In my mind, Pecharunt isn't "lying." Pecharunt's goal is to feel safe. Everything it does advances the goal of making it FEEL safe and secure. This underlying motivation can be true even if Pecharunt is doing awful things that--in reality---make it less safe rather than more safe. The presence of the Teal Mask revived the loyal three. The only other time we've seen a pokemon revived like that was AZ's floette. Many people and pokemon in the pokemon universe die and stay dead. In Pokemon XY, the revival machine that later became the ultimate weapon is depicted as being made of crystal. According to Kieran's grandfather, Ogerpon's original trainer brought the crystals that were incorporated into the masks from a faraway land. What if those crystals were the same material used to revive pokemon in ancient Kalos? It doesn't make sense why Pecharunt would still be trying to get the masks as stated at the very end of its story unless Pecharunt had a way to revive the couple. Pecharunt wants the crystals on the masks to revive and then to keep the old couple alive forever in the same manner that AZ has been alive for 3,000 years. As for the location of the final fight between Pecharunt and Ogerpon, it would make sense that history was repeating itself. The original fight took place at loyalty plaza. All of the townspeople were ordered there by Pecharunt just like in the Epilogue. Pecharunt chose the village's most powerful trainer just like it chose Nemona. Ogerpon punted Pecharunt really far away during their battle and forced it to withdraw into its shell. This broke Pecharunt's control over the townspeople. The townspeople woke up at Loyalty Plaza without any knowledge of what was going on. They made up a story that made sense to them based on what they could see around them.

I think something that kinda clarifies Pecharunt isn't purely evil is its little love heart shaped hands. They are very small and hard to see but it kinda shows on the outside it's seen as evil but deep down it deosn't have any ill intentions and just wants to be loved. And I guess thats why it wanted to mind control the pokemon social media account to disprove the allegations. But thats just my theory of course it might not be the case.

Okay, there are a few issues with your reasoning: You already got the thing about Okidogi in your comments so I won't repeat that I don't get the point of the scenery in the fight scene, because the way back from the hideout goes down Oni Mountain into a little grassy area before Kitakami Hall, so it could've been right there and some villagers happened to see it from off in the distance, then causing a panic about a raging ogre. The "no chicken dance" thing with the old couple could be for a number of reasons. Remember, they stop doing the chicken dance when in battle and even Nemona, Penny, and Arven are able to say things while possessed, Nemona moreso. Also I should point out Nemona actually does corroborate the Untold Story side of things because from very early on in our trip to Kitakami she gets possessed by Pecharunt, and in that time goes off and catches a Kommo-o and Ribombee/Feebas/Dusknoir. And this would've had to have happened during her possession since there is no other point in time she would've been able to do that before possession since all she did was walk from the community center to Peachy's shop. And with her desire to constantly get stronger, it would only make sense for Pecharunt's mochi to bring out that desire in her and she then finds and seeks out stronger Pokemon. Also as for why this was even given to us outside of the game, because that is what they do for all of the mythical Pokemon (minus maybe Arceus and some of the other Gen 4 mythicals). Every mythical before got a movie, but I think for something like Pecharunt having it be this short video works so much better since it is meant to be Pokemon's version of the Legend of Momotaro. And as well I don't think this is a situation where either side of events has to be right or wrong. Like it makes sense for Pecharunt to go on the defensive with the Loyal Three because Ogerpon initiated the attack in their view, but for Ogerpon, it makes sense it would go and attack the Pokemon that ransacked its home and stole its masks. I don't think there are really any plot holes left from either version of events, it is more explaining why the events went down the way they did better because we now have the perspective of both sides

I believe it's entirely possible that their relationship is not that of Puppeteer and Puppets, but that of servants following out of gratitude. In Kitakami, when you get to give chase to all 3, their mission data seems to imply these 3 used to be normal Pokémon but were then given power by their master so that they may achieve their dreams. Okidogi desired Strength, Monkidori Intellect and Fezandipiti Beauty, traits that they acquired by being infused with Pecharunt's Toxic Chains. Notice how they all became Poison Types, effectively meaning they can never be poisoned, and as such, cannot be affected by Pecharunt's Ability in any normal scenario, the ability that's literally called "Poison Puppeteer" This would also explain why Pecharunt doesn't even try to manipulate them during his fight, either he can't or he won't, but will nonetheless let out a cry in distress (considering it's the same for all 3, it might be something along the lines of "You Traitor" or "How could you?"), maybe out of Rage or Sadness..
@23Raind
@23Raind 4 ай бұрын
That's the issue, they're wish was granted with chains. The loyal 3 were bound to pechurant, it doesn't need to manipulate them with poison or mochi because that poison has infused their being. When crying out, ot likely is something like "you traitor", but not because Pechurant couldn't manipulate them, but instead because it can't anymore (power of friendship and all that). Each method of control works differently. Poison puppeteer involves eating no mochi, and causes the target to become disoriented, not controlled, or hypnotized. The mochi feeding creates low functioning puppets. They do what Pechurant wants, but they can't do much because their cognitive functions are seemingly reduced. The toxic chain is the most advanced form, but also allows the bound creature to remain mentally high functioning and independent. Instead of direct mind control, it's more like selling your soul to the devil. Presumably after dying in service to Pechurant, they "paid their debt" and didn't have to follow orders. Obviously the developers aren't giving us enough info to make that claim definitively, but each way of Pechurant using its poison and ghostly power creates a different degree of influence.

I can fill in some gaps, when the narrator showed full body of okidogi the "has" he said as in "The retainer it had tamed with its poison." I believe it means had in past tense. The old couple not ding the chicken dance could be that over the years while Pecharunt was sleeping its poison became more potent, and the only way the victims of the mochi would be if they had a way to constantly "evaporate" the deadly toxins. The only thing I find suspicious from the story is that it says Munkidori had the power to see into the future and be smart and that before Pecharunt made it a retainer, same with Fezandipiti being beautiful at their encounter.

Apperently in anime and now in the games, type advantage is meaningless in some situations. One recent example was in the Indigo disk, where 2 npcs are talking about how they’re confused to how Lacey loses to Drayton despite her having the type advantage (Lacey being fairy and Drayton being Dragons). I know some people are gonna say it cause he might not have terastalized Archualadon, but knowing that the characters immediately terastalize their ace pokemon immediately, you would think that Lacey probably would have seen that coming with Drayton doing that to his ace, getting rid of the resistance of archualadon had
@23Raind

It's called better training, and coverage moves. When people act like type advantages are what determines the outcome, you know they are the scrubbiest of scrubs. Archaludon even when terrastalized still has steel type moves, and neutral moves. So long as Drayton isn't dumb enough to only use pointless moves, he can win. Remember, Archaludon's signature move is an electric type move, not dragon or steel.

Honestly, I interpreted Pecharunt's story more as it not fully understanding its own abilities until after reawakening. It knew how to make mochi, but didn’t realize its mochi had toxic, corruptive effects on those who consumed it. Thus, it didn't realize that it was why the old couple went greedy, and just kept trying to do what they wanted of it because they were family. It used the mochi on the Loyal Three because it wanted to make friends because of its isolation/concern for its task, and it was likely here that it learned its mochi could "help" others (though it likely didn't understand the "control" part yet). It also probably didn't intend murder, it just wanted to make its greed-corrupted adoptive family happy. But we know how that ended. Upon reawakening, this was likely when it realized the full extent of its abilities and started using them maliciously - it's like an angry child lashing out at the world that took everything from it when all it wanted was to help its (now toxic) adoptive family, not understanding that everything that transpired was directly its own fault. Doesn't excuse the whole murder thing nor its actions upon reawakening in the slightest though, but at that point it and the Loyal Three are caught so as to have someone keep an eye on them (and possibly actually give the group some therapy, because lord knows they need it almost as much as Ogerpon does). TL:DR, Pecharunt wasn't necessarily evil from the start IMO, but it definitely became sour because it couldn't understand what it was doing was wrong until it got angry with everything around it.

Pecharunt's untold story being canon isn't that crazy, the story still tells us he's a manipulative monster that values validation more than anything else. He forces it outta others, and but doesn't paint Ogerpon in a villanous way but merely antagonistic. But rather, the way the story is told makes it seem like the storyteller knows what he did was wrong on every level, but was just embellishing it for the sake of, well, the story or because its from Pecharunt's viewpoint specifically.

How did ogrepon defeat the loyal three plus pecharunt? Well. Gf has shown in multiple, and I mean multiple scenarios that type matchups are not the only deciding factor in winning a pokemon battle. (Shown in anime a lot, super mystery dungeon talks about it with build and mawile in the fire dungeon, etc). Then people might ask so why did it lose in the rematch? Multiple reasons..it probably got weaker over time since it wasn't fighting, or it was probably caught off guard like how ogrepon was shown to catch the poison quad off guard on the animation. Emotion also plays into the factor as ogrepon was fueled by anger in round 1 while in round 2 there's a lot more confusion. It might not be a perfect explanation, but I do feel like people need to stop looking at type match ups as the sole decider on whether something wins or not. (you wouldn't say Caterpie solos Mewtwo because bug beats psychic)

You forgot to mention something in this video. Pecharunt is known by the people of Kitakami, they just don't know it. In the Paradise Barrens sign for the story that explains the reason why people wear masks outside of the mask festival, the very last line is a clue towards Pecharunt as it states when it sees a person's face their soul is forfeit. With that context in mind, Ogerpon likely did meet Pecharunt and co in the forest. It's just those mochi Pecharunt ejected were to capture humans to help Pecharunt against Ogerpon. Since they would not remember what happened while under the control of the mochi, all they would see after coming back to consciousness is a raging Ogerpon, going blank and then the 3 ded mons that had clearly fought her and lost as she is returning to the mountain. Pecharunt was always in Kitakami and both stories left too much out, but the combination of all 3 pieces between Kitakami lore, mask maker lore and Pecharunt lore fill in the gaps to the ordeal.

Peacharunt is a type of terrible ghost who is so vicious that he goes to the extent of killing people to satisfy his desires, but at the same time tries to make himself seem good and innocent.

Even though I feel there's a lot of inconsistencies between this tale and what we knew prior, I still think it's largely believable. Maybe that's just the beauty of myths.

Yeah this is something I've been pointing out for a while. Something about the story felt extremely off, like it was told to make the Runt seem like the victim of events despite so many aspects of the story not aligning with the lore told by the villagers who apparently saw the conflict itself, but not the motivation behind it. Most likely, the little brat is some level of Chaotic Evil as it hypnotizes people and pokemon, assuming that's its way of making "Friends" with others, but in reality they just do its bidding. Even more so, it willingly stalked 2 creatures back to its home and attempted to steal from them to satisfy its own personal desires, showing its ill intent. I believe maybe it has a skewed sense of morality, thinking robbing creatures of their will and theft are perfectly ok as long as it doesn't suffer consequences. Because of this, it most likely controlled the old couple and delved deeper into its own depraved selfishness, all leading up to following Ogerpon, "accidently" killing the human, and then getting defeated by a crazed, bloodlusted Ogerpon seeking revenge in front of the townspeople. Then Mask Creator went to the cave, noticed the struggle and damage within the cave, probably saw blood too but the body was taken and most likely buried by Ogerpon. He attempted to tell the villagers what happened, however they refused to believe him and knowing that Pecharunt was still out there, devised the Mask Wearing Lore to protect other humans from accidently eating the mochi fired by Pecharunt while traveling at night and noticing something or someone unfamiliar. Those are my thoughts anyways.

I'd say that Pecharunt isn't entirely aware of its mind control can be another possibility and it genuinely believes that the loyal three are companions instead of under its will.

To be honest i think the video of Pecharunt Tale is what approaches more what should the story be. Not because its Momotaro but because of a detail that you explained and i noticed. You said and it was actually mentioned that the villagers saw the fight of Ogerpon against the Loyal Three. Even at the cutscene image of the "griddy pokemon", Pecharunt showed up because it was obviously with the Loyal Three but thats when things are interesting. If they noticed the fight why they didnt see Pecharunt and why would they pick it up if they seen the fight? Apart of that, are the Loyal Three and the Grandparents under Pecharunt control? Well yes and no. The Toxic Chain on the Loyal Three its their symbol of Loyalty for Pecharunt makes their wishes come true but if you notice their pupils arent purple. Apart of that why they dont turn against you in the Epilogue and why they could act freely in the Teal Mask? This is most likely because they ate the mochi but arent under the strings effect. They are most likely free from Pecharunt control, helping him has a debt rather than actually being Brainwashed. I could be wrong but this is a possibility. Now if we notice the grandparents it says the Mochi awakened their Greedy nature and they still act naturally despite being under Pecharunt control and Pecharunt is kind of controling them indirectly like, he isnt aware of the mind control he put his "Owners" on. Soo Probably Pecharunt has those type of people he can control freely and other that he has limitations or rather control them unaware. The mind control with the forced chicken dance now could be a concentration of his poison due to he rest or in this case "hibernate" until the epilogue but this Concentrated Poison part is a theory of a youtuber that i found interesting. Idk if its possible but could be. And thats my opinion. I just find it strange they watch the fight but not watch Ogerpon take down Pecharunt. Perhaps they heard the noise and reached there only to see the aftermath of the fight. For now thats my opinion :v

Perhaps, like many conquerors, pecharunt believe their goals to be benevolent. the shot of them riding pokemon in the water was probably not as joyous as pecharunt recalls. they were all probably under its control. the question is, is it just a victim of its own powers or does it do it on purpose?

My take is that Pecharunt manipulated the village to believe this story about it being the victim of circumstance and the Loyal Three being heroes. After all, it's whole thing is subjugation to it's will. If it spurs this lie by quietly slipping it's mochi by the villagers discreetly, all it will take is a single generation to perpetuate the lie until it becomes legend. Why else would it take up residence in a store?

“All of this makes pecharunt a very sympathetic character” it sent its minions into a cave to steal masks and he died protecting his property. How tf can you even begin to sympathize with this thing? Because it’s masters told him to do it? That doesn’t make it better, it didn’t even think twice before doing this. This thing is a monster and it along with the 3 deserve what they got.

Haven't seen many english comments saying this, but Pecharunt has a very obvious tie to the number 88. The level it is when you fight it and every base stat except for defense is 88. And wouldn't you know it, 88 is representative of danger in Japan. It makes a lot of sense. And it looks like a little chain! Bonus points right there.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here or not, or if it's an obvious thing and you just didn't talk about it, or if I'm just an idiot and I missed you talking about it, but the mythical pecha berry that you get from the mystery gift is probably the pecha berry that Pecharunt got for the old couple. Imagine you got a really expensive box of chocolates for your parents, and they just gave it away to someone else. Wouldn't you be mad?

Momotarō (Peach boy) was seen as the hero in the folktale story from Japan, just as the village of Kitakami believed that the Loyal Three were the heroes. They depicted a human behind them as their supposed Trainer, but that trainer has the toxic chains from Pecharunt, so it's being controlled by it. This might tragically be Ogerpon's Trainer, who was controlled when they fought him for the masks. That's why nothing's known about him after, and the villagers wouldn't have recognized him without the mask This is simply GameFreak's version of the story, a spin on it, for the fact that folk tales might all have a hint of truth but also might have a lot of false, just like the original story of Momotarō, something doesn't seem right. A boy isn't simply born from a peach, conveniently found by a childless couple. This boy was delivered there, possibly because he was evil, this might be GameFreak's idea. Momotarō was never a hero but rather a demon child that was abandoned by whoever made it, either because they wanted to get rid of it or because they wanted it to create chaos in the region. Coincidentally, theory goes that the Government of that era in Japan sent soldiers there to kill off any opposition in the region.
So Pokémon DOES Have Voice Acting!
