I don't think they could have avoided participating in the second even if they wanted to. Almost all of their children chose to stand and fight. Even Ginny, despite being underage chose to ignore her mother's wishes and fought. The boy they desperately wanted to join their family, Harry, was front and center, at the very heart of the conflict. So, in the end they had to fight no matter what.

People can only stay out of a war for so long. Eventually the war will catch up to them and they'll be dragged into it, whether they like it or not. Nothing can truly prepare you for war. The sight, sound, smell. Death is ugly. All you can do is hope that it's your enemy that dies.

I think they expected their role to be much more lowkey, and no in the Frontline if you know what I mean? At least for Molly that is. Arthur seemed to clearly want to jump in now that all his children were older, but Molly was still clearly wanting to be more of a support role than a wand in the field. I think that changed when she realized as you said all her children, even Ginnt were out in the battlefield fighting for their lives, and she couldn't stand losing them.

I always thought they had been Deatheaters in the original war while under the imperius curse. My reasoning for that the scene both in the book and the film (I find things that are unchanged from the books to the films tend to have significantly more meaning)when Moody talks about the three Unforgivable Curses he speaks with Neville about Crucio.... for reasons that become obvious, Harry.... well for being the boy who lived with the killing curse and then to Ron saying........"Your father would know that one. Gave the Ministry a lot of trouble at one time, the Imperius Curse."

When I read that line I assumed it meant Arthur would know about the imperius curse due to it causing the ministry so much trouble. Because they were putting death eaters on trial and couldn't figure out who was actually telling the truth that they were under the curse or they weren't and acted of their own accord. Never thought arthur would actually use the curse. Considering how many were not a fan of him in the ministry, that would be a 1 way ticket to Azkaban, open and shut case.

There are just a few things that always troubled me about the Weasley timeline... there is this Unforgivable Curse thing, the not being in the first war and yet major players in the second and.... This one is kind of out of left field... Molly talks about the game-keeper before Hagrid in... I think "The Goblet of Fire" and from the 2nd book we know Hagrid has had the role since being thrown out while Riddle was still at school... this would make Molly and Arthur significantly older than they seem

During the first war they were newlyweds and were trying to establish their lives then Mollie became pregnant with Bill. Arthur trying to keep his Family safe was his and Mollie first priority for them then. Come the second war it was a different situation for them then with one dead child and Ginny was attempted murder by Bellatrix it drove Mollie over the edge plus the loss of her two brothers

I knew this already, which is why I hated the scene in the Half Blood Prince movie where Bellatrix and Greyback attacked their house, since I was always under the impression that almost no one knew where their house was because of the worries during the first Wizarding war. That and it made no practical sense.

Honestly it’s not hard to understand that leaving children potentially with out parents is a big thing and the Weasley did prioritize raising their family more than can be said for so many others who left their children in less than stellar conditions.

I have a different view on the Barty Crouch Jr / Mad Eye Moody comment about Arthur having experience with the imperious curse Rather than Arthur being under this curse, I understood the comment meaning it was something that the ministry had to deal with (how to you figure out who's actually under the curse and who is Faking It to avoid prison, etc).

Actually I disagree I'd say these battles weren't about revenge or avenging someone they were about protecting and defending someone you love that's still alive. If they were just about revenge or avenging I don't think that they would be as powerful as Molly standing in between bellatix and her daughter fighting to protect her with all her life force like Lily would have done for Harry if given more of a fighting chance... Protective magic has always been something that has been symbolic in Harry Potter and also that the fact that Harry Potter himself wasn't defeating voldemort for revenge but to protect the wizarding world and the people he cared about....

I love Arthur, but I wonder whether he really is not corrupt. He got the tickets for the Quidditsch World Cup final from Ludo Bagman because he looked the other way when Ludo's brother did something wrong. Not to mention he made sure there were loopholes in the laws to make sure he could make experiments with muggle stuff although it was his job to prevent wizards from doing this.

Hood day and greetings from LOS ANGELES, I paused the video 14 seconds in to answer this myself. The Wonderful Weasley's did not join the first Wizarding war because, (😮more so Molly) Fabian and Gideon were murdered. Secondly and more over most definitely (and I fell it's the primary reason)they had little ones, and they could not put themselves in danger and leave their children parentless. So for that to me is why they didn't participate in the first war.

I would argue that they have refused to participate as they have focused on their growing family. They didn't want to leave their children. Plus Molly was mourning the loss of her brothers. Then I think their decision to get involved was because of their desire to support Harry. Bill Charlie Fred George Ron and Ginny chose to stand by Harry and they all had a strong sense of responsibility.

When Harry sacrificed himself, he triggered the same ancient magic that Lily gave to him at her death and gave that same protection to everyone to everyone in Hogwarts from Voldemort and the deatheaters. That meant that Ginny was protected from Bellatrix. That meant that after Harry's sacrifice (that he ended up surviving) there were no more deaths from everyone fighting on Harry's side. Voldemort gave a choice to Lily and Harry to die - and that made all the difference in triggering the ancient magic.

They shared Great Great grandparents as far as it seems. I probably have a "cousin" so much removed? But I don't know them. Also really depends on where they lived as hogwarts school covers a lot of area Muggle wide? So that could be hundreds or thousands of miles with the limited amount of schools all over. My 3rd cousin (we share commen great grandparents) & know of each other but don't know each other, we both have kids that I know for sure. Our kids don't know each other. We only grew up within an hour approx from each other.

Even if you consider Arthur's dad being muggle lover, he didnt marry one and if Malfoys can do business fine with Muggles and marry a black with inheritance from one, then i dont think Arthur should be an exception to that. Unless his mom didnt have much to begin with. OR Arthur's dad just splurged it.
