i just voted for janet mostly on the basis of abortion and redistricting. an abortion ban without any exceptions is unacceptable. and don't get me started on the issue of redistricting in general. both parties do it and it's a major problem that most laypeople don't know about. you shouldn't get to pick your voters.

The democrats doesn’t do it egregiously compared to republicans and also some democrats let’s independent groups to draw the maps.

@@NicholasLi10 that's certainly true in wisconsin, in other states not so much.

@@nicebluejay eh. As a person who voted Democrats, I gotta say I kind of I disagree. Having checks on gerrymandering is mostly a blue state thing at the moment, and what good does that do for the country as a whole? If Ohio and Florida can just ignore rulings and get handed enough seats to take the House, why do I want New York and California to have checks on it? If it’s just to feel so great about ourselves cause we do the right thing…have fun with that self righteousness. I’d rather have those 6 House seats that’d mean the most far right Republican Party in our history aren’t controlling half of Congress. End it at the federal level so neither side can do it in any state, or nothing at all. I know that’s cynical and it’s wrong on paper, but it’s just how I feel. Which really is depressing because had Democrats done a point better on the national level they’d have 52 Senators and the House and could have ended it with the For The People Act. But they will lose the Senate in 2024 because of that awful map and will be lucky to win a narrow House majority. So it will have no shot at getting done for another generation

How is a this even an elected position? Maybe it makes sense now but I thought these high level judges were all about how competent the judges are historically.

There was a movement towards this for noble reasons in the past. It was due to the voters wanting more transparency versus back door deals. It was likely the same impetus towards electing the senate. There were perceptions of corruption, some appointments were simply bought. It also allowed voters to bypass corrupt lawmakers, just like the progressive era reform to allow direct ballot initiatives so voters could change the law without needing lawmakers to filter it. As we know, corruption always finds a way.

Repus outspent 300% LoL

Dems outspend repubs in many races and still lose. Money can be spent unwisely. Look at how much dems spent in the ME, KY & SC US senate races in 2018 to get nowhere near to victory. Instead they almost lost a MI seat they didn't pay attention to. HRC outspent Trump and lost. Look at all the dem money that is pissed away in FL and yet republicans put in long term investment and it pays off. Dems parachute in at election time and then leave. Republicans expand their machinery, build actual infrastructure, have great outreach, exceeded dem registration. Dems did nothing for years. Where does a lot of dem money go? It's like operating a franchise, to use the dem label you are locked into a lot of their spending on their own consultants / media buys etc. It's a gravy train, doesn't matter if it is effective or not. You either capitulate or they withold resources like data, donor lists, events etc from you. So you need to obey or be able to overpower things by mobilizing and building your own.

“To be clear, we have basically no polling.” Shows that this podcast, once a quants haven of sanity, has degenerated into a bunch of pundit talking heads, but with less experience and sophistication than most major new sources.
