Universal studios seems to be backwards closing good rides and replacing them with worst rides. Like Disaster being closed to open up that disaster of a ride called Fast and Furious.

My most missed ride is the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. It was a unique ride experience that no one builds today. Sure the B & M mega-loopers are intense but sometimes you don't want that. Plus the swinging that only a suspended provides adds greatly to the experience. I'll never forget riding in the last car back in 1987 as the train accelerated down the second drop and our car swung out to the right, then to the left. It simply scared both my sister and myself. No other Arrow suspended had the same thrills as BBW. The new Axis coaster looks promising and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs mine train kinda mimics an Arrow suspended. Time moves on...

he talked a little about Disney's Test Track and its Chevy Sponsorship. But missed why Test Track really needs sponsorship's. Test Track is incredibly expensive to operate for one often not understood reason. Tires. The ride vehicles are actually riding on real pneumatic automobile tires. And when it opened it was chewing through them at an obscene rate. A set of ride vehicle tires would last at best 1-3 days. Per car! The tire company involved had to go back and quite literally invent a new type of tire in order to get them to last a few weeks.

At my home park they had a huss enterprise that was there for for around 18 years or so give or take. It closed due to being old and hard to find parts. But in general all rides have a lifespan. If it’s taken care of longer the others. As for that rides that been down since December I m sure it’s partly due to being old and parts are getting harder to find.

My favorite ride that closed was Knotts Berry Farm's (Buena Park, CA, USA) Corkscrew. My mom worked for Knotts at the time and they held a huge and massive farewell party for the roller coaster on it's final day.

The saddest closures are ones from defunct manufacturers. If a B&M closed, at least they can replace that hole. But if an Arrow closed, eventually no-one will be able,to experience their work

The ride with linear electric motors should be able to recover power from the ride on descent (regenrative breaking) and reuse it. That is a trick that is also used on modern subway trains. Not 100% efficient but greatly reduces power consumption.

I find the smaller regional parks in the United States that maintain wooden coasters approaching a century old incredible. There is never a year that track or cars aren't being rebuilt or replaced and some parks like Kennywood have just resorted to doing everything from replacing wood and track, to rebuilding original 1920 cars in house. These parks don't have tons of money so they sacrifice the frequency of major park additions but the park attendees wouldn't want it any other way.

Disneyland's Skyway Buckets (1956-1994). A crack in the center tower located in the Matterhorn is what eventually doomed the ride. This is the only Disney attraction I know of that closed because of inability to make a reasonable repair.

Rides that are missed that never had a suitable replacement? At Movie World Aus, Looney Tunes River Ride was an awesome dark water ride, replaced with a concrete floor, and eventually Junior Driving School. Bermuda Triangle at Sea World was a World Class dark ride, again replaced with Storm. Storm is good, but it's not as good as Bermuda, and has left a major family gap in their ride line up. Sea World has also lost quite a few attractions without a replacement, such as The Pirate Ship, Corkscrew, Sea World Railway, Sky High Chairlift, and recently the Monorail. It's ok to retire attractions, but the replacement should be as good, if not better than what it replaced, not the other way around. Sadly Australia hasn't got that idea quite worked out yet.

Your numbers are way off on the power consumption of Tower of Terror. Consumption is measured in _megawatt hours_ (MWh), not megawatts (MW). It's the power rating multiplied by the amount of time it is applied. Tower of Terror uses 2.2 MW for its launch systems, but they are only used for a brief period, so the consumption is not sky-high. The launch is about 8 seconds long. For 60 launches per day, that amounts to 8 minutes that the launch is powered. This works out to 0.293 MWh (versus 132 MW as stated in the video). It's still a lot (about 7-10 houses' consumption), but nowhere near as bad as indicated here.
@ewant79544 жыл бұрын
You talk crap about superstar limo but the reason it was so bad was 2 things. 1. California adventure was under funded. And 2. The ride was originally gonna be themed to being chased by paparazzi and was gonna be decent but then princess Diana was killed and it would’ve been controversial to keep the ride’s original theme so the theme had to be quickly re designed since the ride system was already in place

My local park had a "SkyFlyer" (think a caroussel waaaay up a high tower) which they had to tear down after like 5 years. Reason: They'd built a roller coaster with an enclosed lifthill/vertical drop and that messed up the wind-flow/caused turbulences

Please, redo this video where you have done the MW and MWh thing correctly. If a household consumes e.g. 2 MWh, it is equivalent of running a machine at 2 MW for one hour. Now, imagine that the 2 MWs of Tower of Terror only required 3 seconds of full power per launch, it would only consume roughly 1,7 kWh per launch, which is a little more than one cycle for a washing machine.

Epcot's original Journey Into Imagination ride closed because Kodak...still sponsoring it at the time...ran into financial troubles in the 90's,due to their slow response to the changeover to digital film. They told Disney they'd continue to sponsor,but only if a less costly ride was put in place.

My homepark had a Schwarzkopf looping star, but as a kid I never rode it since I was too small and too scared. It has been replaced with the Gerstlauer Infinity coaster Gold Rush which looks like a great ride, but that doesnt help me with the feeling of missing out on something great. However, the looping star now operates at a park in Cyprus, so im at least happy that it wasnt sent to the scrapyard. Thats the coaster -> rcdb.com/907.htm
