L.T.D. was a popular group in the late 1970s, with multiple gold albums under their belt. However, just when they were beginning to hit their stride the group broke up. Why did this happen? And why will there never ever be an L.T.D. reunion or reunion tour? This video answers both of these questions. Enjoy!

Thanks for bringing this out. It shows the Envy JEALOUSLY of our own kind of people, when these L.T.D. Members was trying to hold back & Control the Great Talented Balladeer Romantic Singer Jeffrey Osborne. I grew up listening to L.T.D. during my Junior & High School years, & continues to listen to his music when he became a Solo Artist. Also I had a chance to watch Jeffrey Osborne Concert 3 Times in Baltimore. He will always be my Favorite Soulful Singer.

The first time I ever went to a real restaurant I had dinner with Jeffrey Osborne. I had just finish college at Prairie View A&M and was working as reporter at a Black weekly newspaper back in the early 80's. He was doing a promotion in Dallas with one of the big beer companies with the Black press and a few of us got to go out to a fancy restaurant and ate dinner with him. I had no idea what to order and just randomly ordered a New York strip steak. We also got to go see his show. I just remember him as been nice and humble.

Once he left LTD, they basically went out of business. 😆 🤣 😂 I believe that if he had started out as a solo artist; he would have done well, too. His voice is rich and powerful. I loved the hits they made as a group. Not trying to take anything from them as a whole, but why try to put this man's light under a bushel?

4:49--When the remaining LTD members said this to Jeffrey, they sealed their own fate. The music industry was downsizing a lot of Black bands. Some bands split in half, others would have the lead singers snatched from them, with the rest of the band thrown to the wolves...which was what happened to LTD. They had NO FUTURE without Jeff.
@randyeno

Not bad, not bad. However, I believe most LTD fans knew that Jeffrey was the lead singer. Also, just to add insult to injury the last good album by LTD, Love Magic, was released without Jeffrey's permission, with a bunch of songs written by Osborne. However, his vocals were replaced by New Birth singer Leslie Wilson. Yeah, they kind of stuck it to him as he left the building. Hey, but that's show business, right!

Maybe not. Just look at Dionne Warwick. One of the best-selling artists of all time, and in the business for 60 years. Broke. Also, look at R. Kelly. Singer, songwriter, and had less than $500K to his name when he was arrested. We can safely assume he has considerably less now with all his legal fees and inability to tour for income. Also Mary J. Blige who said she was broke and basically homeless just a few years ago. Millions of record sales and decades in the business.

To be honest with you, this news kinda wet my eyes...very sad news. That group, the songs, the lyrics and particularly Jeffrey Osborne were an intrigal part of me developing into a young man. I was able to have a much better appreciation for romantic relationships after paying close attention to the lyrics and singing along, countless times. I spent many days imagining myself in a wonderful marriage with the one woman that I truly love and STAYING with her til the end of time, working out kinks and celebrating good times together, doing my best to be strong, protective, loving and dedicated for her, after being inspired by music like theirs. I know that I have no idea about all the details regarding this, but I am still saddened that it turned out this way. I was really saddened by him leaving when I heard about it. L.T.D. was my favorite group then. JEFFREY is one of my singing idols! I've seen him several times in concert. There needs to be a reunion tour. Although Jeffrey Osborne is an impeccable singer, the LTD sound with Jeffery's voice was phenomenal, and it can never be duplicated or surpassed by Jeffery or by LTD without him. Why is it that the old Major Rock and Roll Bands like the Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doobie Brothers, work out their differences and continue to make millions but our black Bands maintain grudges which only hurts their fans, but mostly themselves. They need to get over themselves and return to churning out good music.

Jeffery Osborn had a very rich vocal range , I think he was main attraction of LTD ,those musicians who backed him should have help push him and LTD to unlimited stardom. They would probably be still performing as a group today.

True. They may have been as big as groups that stayed together like Earth, Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, and The O'Jays.

I barely knew who LTD was and can't name more than one song from memory. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Osborne went on to be a global POP STAR and he had SEVERAL #1 hits. You know how hard it was to go #1 more than a few times in the 80s? With Michael, Madonna, Prince, Phil Collins, etc. in the game? Please. LTD knows what time it is.

5 members of L.T.D. Pass RIP 😓 Wikipedia reports that Abraham “Onion” Miller RIP, Jake Riley 2000 Rip , Melvin Webb 1982 Rip, Jimmie “JD”Davis 2008 RIP and Henry E. Davis RIP 2012, was the latest to pass. Lorenzo Carnegie and Carle Vickers are still with LTD. Today 2023. The brothers Billy Osborne and Jeffery Osborne left together.1981. Billy work with Ray Charles for years. It was 10 original members of LTD. I Love LTD and Jeffery 💔 to see them break??? On Soul Train Jeffery Osborne first time on the show. When ask he said he work with a great group of guys “sadly “

Nah, homes. I love your content, but Jeffrey's solo work doesn't "far surpass" what he did with LTD. Much of his solo stuff is very good, but that LTD stuff is timeless.

As it was stated the group just couldn’t figure themselves out just about half of group members of L.T. D. sung lead vocals on some songs but it wasn’t exactly good Jeffrey who was the drummer of group sung lead on songs and blew everyone away he became the lead singer for good and some top 10 hits and other people wanted Jeffrey to write for them but the group just wasn’t having it and a lot tension within the group Jeffrey Osborne went solo and never look back.

Many artist leave groups and go solo. The bands they started in usually go down hill afterwards. Teddy Pendergtass left Harold Melvin and the Blue notes, Lionel Richie left the Commandoes, Philipe Wynne left the Spinners, David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks left the Temptations, MJ left his Brothers at 1 point, Howard Hewett left Shalamar, Smoky Robinson left the Miracles, Patti left LaBelle, Chaka Khan left Rufus, Dianna Ross left the Supremes, Gladys Knight went on w/o the Pips. People know the voice not the band. So they become successful as solo artist. It won't work for Morris Day and the Time though.

Exceptions far as The Temptations cause they did have hits after Eddie Kendricks & David Ruffin left. Same with Smokey & The Miracles

Jeffrey's situation w/L.T.D. is similar to the music scene of Rhode Island where he's originally from. Crabs in a bucket mentality, always hating on anyone who has talent and makes it big.
