Really enjoyed this comprehensive review, thank you! Yup, same here, it came down to the Anbernic RG556 or the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. For me the screen size and resolution, form factor, control layout and price to performance ratio were the most deciding factors. My RG556 arrived a couple weeks ago as an upgrade to my beloved but dated GPD XD+ and I can't love this thing enough. Wow is this a game changer. It's the perfect size to me, not too big, not too small, but just right. The 5.48" 1080p AMOLED touch screen is incredible. It's hands down the most comfortable hand held I've ever played. The control layout is perfect, and the buttons have a perfect mix of click and mush. No detectable lag whatsoever. The PS2 emulation is so flawless, and the pixel density and resolution is so good that any PS2 game you play on it looks completely remastered. As an older gamer I just can't freaking get over playing my favorite PS2 games on such an awesome compact handheld. The RG556 speakers are uniquely placed and deliver remarkable sound. And personally the thumb sticks aren't an issue for me at all, they feel and work great.

I noticed you were using the analog sticks when playing the fighting games. How is the d-pad with fighting games?

I would say they are average. Not bad, but also not perfect. Still they get the job done 👍

They feel cheap but its ok. The build feels cheap but if youre willing to spend a little more for a lot better device get a odin 2 base since you c a nt play all ps2 games on the rg556

@@HRDRGMNG I had an Odin 2 for a while, but I had to sell it. The d-pad and buttons are too small for me. I also don't like the smaller analog sticks.

If I want to add more games on the ps2 can I simply download the ROMs from a navigator of the anbernic? Or I have to take out the sd card and then add them through a pc?

You would need to add them to you SD card from a PC 👍

I picked up an SD card from Aliexpress with 480 PS2 games on it, I can access the games list but when I click on one it says the file can't be accessed. So I have to upload to a pc first, then on to a different card? GRRRRR!

It's playable, but you have to change the controller layout to xbox from the action menu

You have to turn on control mapping too, cod is a preset, but if there are other games without one, just map it yourself

this is a very useful video! since the device has no HDMI port, how would you go about connecting this to a monitor or capture card? i wanted one of these for streaming purposes

Thank you. Glad it’s helpful! The Anbernic RG556 has a USB-C out port. You should be able to connect it to a TV or monitor with a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Hope this helps 👍

How do you turn off the on screen controls when playing ps2 games?

There's a menu option that lets you turn them off. I'm still getting used to the 556's menus so I fumble my way to get there but eventually get there lol. When you do, the 556 auto assigns the controls exactly how you want them most of the time, but you can further customize the button layout if you want to.

I noticed that whenever it does configure the controls the right stick is always inverted. You can map it to make it right though

XCloud/game pass streaming works (not installing games). Also you need to change the settings to the Xbox layout as shown in the video, or else the triggers will not work
