@@edithkramer7689 I do similar for oop molds like Impact ESP at 170--172 grams, 174--176 gram version, Star Archon around 165--167 grams or Champion Shark 3 around 175 grams midrange distance disc as well as gaps where I need a hook at the end. Stalker, I have a bunch or pre, flight number discs becuse I had to find a new mold as soon as XL was stopped in 2010's and as I did Discraft was running off old stock of Stalkers for a new flight number and a Page Pierce signature disc. I feared all OS fairway and 9 speed were going oop becuse of a dumb comment where Paul Mc Beath said he had no need for a true fairway and 9 speed disc getting all molds gone just to please Paul McBeth. Now in Star Shark around 175 grams, I have 3 good backups one almost G-Star oops but I could use high dome runs of G-Star Shark just fine as my approach disc and super windy putter if need be.

House of Discs need to spend their money on marketing and branding. They've done nothing but show themselves to be all about money, at least pretend to want to "grow the sport". It seems to me that disc golfers buy the players that they are fans of more than anything else. Simon/MVP could drop a $33 disc and it would sell, no issues because they way they market, you don't feel like they are just trying to bend you over (even if they actually are). No one is going to do that for Trilogy now because everything that made them gain their cult following are gone. They used to have the best presence on social medial, now I'm not even sure I could name another pro outside of Ricky and Kona.. It's funny because around 2019 or so, I thought Innova would be in trouble in 5-10 years because these other companies (MVP, DD, Discmania) were doing such an amazing job of engaging their communities and their trust essentially. Now, they are looking great, keep prices down and bank on volume while these other companies basically price themselves out of the market. It's sad, but I'm glad I have an unhealthy collection of discs as to where I'm not pressed to buy anything at this point.

I wonder if DD really understood the power of their social media presence driving sales. When I started getting more into disc golf, the Disc Golf Answer Man show was still going strong. I loved what Bobby Brown and Robert McCall were doing. I purchased Judges and Truths cause they all loved them. I picked up Felons because Eric Oakley wouldn't stop talking about them. Danny Lindal's Physics of Flight series might still be the best instructional content on KZbin. But when DGAM ended and Danny and Anthony were clearly being pulled in other directions, I didn't sense the same love for the game and for those who played it. Now that most of those folks have left DD, I struggle to really care about DD's line up. I've never been impressed by the pros just because of their ability; I'd much rather listen to an AM with clear communication skills and passion. And I will never be able to crush an anhyzer flex like Ricky, so if he throws it, I don't need it (SBSlammer, General, Enforcer, etc.). Now I throw mostly L64, and I wish I could say it was just because I love the Beetle, Keystone, Fuse, and River (which I do). But if I am honest, a huge part of it is L64's KZbin with Jonathan, Johannes, and Tomas making the game and their discs look fun. I think they also recognize that their main market needs to be AMs. The Royal Line plastic has some incredibly throwable discs that have sold very well (Hope, Savior, Trust, Brave, Strive) while the overstable stuff is still great (Glory, Honor, Rive), it just isn't needed by your average weekend warrior noodle arm and so doesn't move as well.

I started playing in the early 1980s and at that time you bought disc mostly out of the truck of some ones car for around 6.00 and you only had a choice of Innova and Discraft and Lightning. None of which ever cost me more than 6.00 each. When Covid came about I started buying some of the newer discs that had better plastics and love them so much more but 15 00 dollars was my limit on most disc. I will say they are a lot better now but I play a round with my 80s stuff and my newer ones and I gained around 2 to 3 strokes on a round. But hell I am in my 70s now so if I had had them sooner maybe I would have gained 5 strokes.

Welp I mean $6 in 1984 was about $15.50 in 2021 adjusted for inflation and the technology with discs has come very far in 30 years. So paying 20 bucks for a new disc in current year isn't completely absurd. You can also just buy used discs which will be significantly cheaper and do the same thing as most new discs if you know what you're looking for.

Ironically disc golf tends to self regulate in the sense most people get into it because it's low cost entertainment in a typically easy access, uncrowded environment. If the popularity increases so much that courses are crowded or start charging fees, and disc prices become expensive it drives away people from the game.

There comes a point where a player has all the discs they need in their bag and a bunch on the side already. Once people hit that point, they don't buy more discs and then the market slowly starts to dwindle. There will always be beginners coming to the sport to bring it back up but they aren't ones buying all these damn signature discs.

Even a Champion Gator Ring of Gators/older Champion is selling for quite a bit becuse of people hearing hype on disc and how beefy mold is when a Metal flake is going to have almost same beefy flight and is a regular production run disc for $20 pre tax or the shipping cost of around $4--$5.

@curtisridenour Throwing putters are definitely Innova's weak spot, especially if you want something on the flippier side. They have many options, but most of them are doney and kinda meh. They’re just doing it wrong. It’s common for many players to shell out for a signature series disc for a player they like or because it’s a special run or plastic. Examples are plentiful: Calvin destroyer, sexton Firebird, cloudbreaker, PMB anything. What’s missing here is a stock General at the base price. Plenty of people will pay for the premium option if there is a choice, but when you take away that choice it just looks and feels like a cash grab.

While it's expensive for sure, I think it's quite a bit of an overreaction to draw such conclusions over one disc. At least in Europe, the DD prices are very comparable to other brands and most brands (at least Discmania, Prodigy, Innova, Axiom, Clash to name a few) have more expensive discs than the General. I guess from DD's point of view, this is their big new release of the year and a Sockibomb signature model. I'm just surprised that they really haven't been able to create any hype for the disc so that is why the price feels so high.

I personally blame the Covid boom on this kind of price hike. The huge influx of money into the sport gave manufacturers a false sense of security and they overpaid on their contracts. Now that the demand for discs has dropped, they are stuck with contracts they can barely pay. Now they are passing on the burden to consumers by overcharging for a disc.

You need to remember the people are paying for the players contracts not the company. Like RW probably gets $5 per disc . So the company adds $5 dollars to the disc. They are not giving the players $5 of there money its $5 from the people. That's why price seems high. So remember the people are the ones sponsoring the player not the company. Also disc golf is not Immune to the Inflation in the country right now. Like Paul said in 5 year mark he sold 250,000 disc which netted him one million dollars so $5 disc from the people.

There's a saying I actually think I came up with it. "As long as people keep buying it, they will keep selling it." Be smarter with your purchases ladies and gentlemen, it's just a piece of plastic and is in no way worth $33

I think where innova and discraft play it smart is sure they may come out with a disc at $23-25 but the follow it up a few months later with a stock premium plastic version for 15-20 and of course some molds go all the way down to base or a base premium mix. They understand no everyone can drop 25 on a new disc so they try and cash in on the die hards and collectors, then open up to the rest of the consumer base. But as you pointed out this looks like a stock premium disc shouldn’t be over 25 IMO and if they need to sell some higher than make a limited run stamp and plastic mix to make it worth it for the die hards/collectors.

I got mine at DDO and pretty sure I didn’t pay that price for them. I love the disc but I don’t have that kind of money to get more. Guess I’ll throw these two until forever…

I notice a trend with all the companies doing signature series for their pros. They also charge more for those signatures But you can buy the same disk With just the artwork which is bomb artwork for a lot less. I will not pay more money for a disk just because it has name on it.

Raw material for a 170g disc doesn't cost more than 50¢, even if the prices double or triple, its still almost irrelevant for the retail price.

Remember when everyone was boycotting innova because they wouldn’t go all in with multimillion dollar contracts to players? Innova is looking pretty smart right now. That Kona contract aged especially poorly.

If it’s too expensive, don’t buy it. If it doesn’t sell, then they will not try to sell them for that price in the future. No one complains that Ferraris cost dozens of times what a Toyota does. They simply don’t buy them if they can’t afford them. Toyota doesn’t start selling Camrys for $300,000 just because Ferrari sells their cars for that much. It’s a niche disc that about 1% of disc golfers can throw correctly.

Things like this, scare me about the future of the sport as it becomes more popular more money will be involved before we know it the courses will not be beginner friendly in attempts of making it like what the “pros” play, They will all start to cost money to play, discs will go up as much as they can as long as people will continue to buy them which they will as the popularity grows, and then the more expensive the more that people will take them when they find them instead of returning them to their owner. The community will slowly fall apart. The sport will no longer be about having a genuinely good time with friends. It will no longer be a fun activity to do that doesn’t cost much for people to get into with more popularity. People will start getting greedy and turn it into the most profitable thing they can…

Interesting perspective about the business side of things. Why is this capitalism thing so great? Unfortunately greed is the undoing of many brands that are bought out by vulture capitalist. For those that want a 33 dollar frisbee more power to them. Honestly house of disc probably isn't stressed about how they're selling in America. 33 dollars might jive with their European market where disc golf is more popular and their people do have more disposable income.
