He cites studies on nicotinic acid, which is niacin (vitamin B3), not nicotine and barely present in cigarettes. It’s funny b/c we call it niacin today due to FDA thought people might confuse it with nicotine - history lessons even undergrads should know. His team might have known better lol

My favorite part of all this is that now Dr Gundry's lawyers are claiming they never sent Dr Mike a Cease and desist. There was more nuance to his point than him just saying, "smoking makes you live longer." That's one clip from the whole thing, and as he said the whole podcast kept going back to the subject. On the other hand, the opposite argument is literally "the sky is pink and elephants fall from the sky," and offered no evidence, while there is a massive body of research dating to the early 19th Century that the sky is not pink and elephants do not fall from the sky. That even without controlling for income (as smokers have a higher median income and all the benefits of that money) smokers still die younger. Absurd claims do not merit good faith argument.

Dr Gundry was very clear, it was the nicotine that was helpful for the mitochondria, and said the smoking and the tobacco were unhealthy. Dr Mike in this video only should smoking and tobacco as unhealthy, so Mike just proved they agree. Dr Mike needed to refute nicotine was why smoking was bad. That Nicotine was unhealthy. He didnt show one study about nicotine, so Dr Gundry will still be walking around saying he is right.

My mom, who smoked before I was born and most of my youth, quit off and on and finally gave them up for good when I was in my 20s. She didn't develop Parkinsons or dementia... because she developed lung cancer and died at age 62. My father, who also smoked as long as my mother, didn't develop Parkinsons or dementia... he had a triple bypass at age 36, dealt with numerous angioplasties and other procedures, and died at age 62 - a year before my mom - from pneumonia related to his existing health issues. And both of them had QUIT smoking over a decade before. It wasn't enough. Smoking kills. Period. It directly stole my mother from me. It was one of multiple factors that took my father.

That's not what the cease and desist is about. He isn't asking for the podcast to be removed or the information he said during it to be removed. The cease and desist is purely for the short which shows a small segment of the overall content in an out of context manner. In being out of context, the short makes it appear like that Doctor is recommending smoking which isn't the case, with Doctor Mike here acknowledging that this isn't the case. This is why the cease and desist has been made. The request isn't to stop Doctor Mike showing what he said during the interview, it's about stopping Doctor Mike taking what was said during the interview and displaying it in an out of context manner, as in doing so Doctor Mike created a misleading narrative that the other Doctor recommended smoking. While a fan of Doctor Mike myself, on this occasion, he is in the wrong, displaying the cease and desist as if it's a request for the misinformation to be hidden, when in truth it's a request for the false narrative - that this other Doctor recommends smoking - to be removed, through the removal of the short. The cease and desist was the correct course of action for the other Doctor to take here as he is being defamed by the negative impression the out of context short provides. (Note: The negative impression to the extent that would be defamatory is that of the short displaying the other Doctor as recommending smoking and has nothing to do with the misinformation provided by the other Doctor or any separate or additional negative impressions brought on from that misinformation).

My dad died when I was only 20 years old. He’s been smoking cigarettes since he’s been 13 and died at the age of 62. He also ate junk food + didn’t move enough + stressed a lot. So sure there was a lot going on but cigarettes caused his COPD. He died of the last stages of COPD. It’s very sad because watching his struggle to breathe all the time was horrific. It’s extremely sad! Then my aunt died recently but lived to be 77 although she fought through a battle of COPD as well. The only thing that helped her case was probably less stress. She was a pretty optimistic person. Mind set does a lot for somebody but cigarettes is 100 percent horrible. I’ve never smoked them in my life. I don’t vape. I don’t smoke anything. I learned from watching my dad literally suffocate for years. It’s a scary way to slowly die. Don’t smoke.

I find it hard to believe it's not on purpose either, because he does it all the time. Like at another point in the interview he says you "might as well be eating a Hershey's chocolate bar" if you're eating a bowl of grapes because the sugar content is the same, and when it gets pointed out that grapes have more nutritional value for the amount of sugar they contain than a Hershey's bar he starts trying to make chocolate seem healthy by talking about extra dark chocolate, ignoring that Hershey's is milk chocolate and ignoring the criticism that some people will take that to mean "I might as well eat the Hershey's bar over the bowl of grapes" he simply replied "Might as well..." before later conceding that milk chocolate is in fact worse than eating a bowl of grapes. Still didn't seem interested in changing the way he put that messaging out though.

I completely agree with Dr. Mike’s perspective, but I wanted to address the issue of misinformation, especially with regard to your video title, "Why This Doctor Is Trying To Sue Me." The title implies that legal action is actively being pursued, while in reality, the only legal measure mentioned was a cease and desist letter. This letter is not a lawsuit but rather a warning that could potentially escalate into one. Now, it’s possible there’s more to the story that we aren’t privy to, and Dr. Mike has every right to keep certain details private if he chooses. Respecting his boundaries is important, as legal matters can be nuanced and complex. However, I only wanted to bring this up because the video itself centers on addressing misinformation, making the title choice a bit ironic. Framing the situation as an ongoing lawsuit aligns more with "clickbait" and could be seen as misleading, especially in a video aiming to clarify facts.

I’ve enjoyed watching KZbin channel for number of years and this episode might be my favourite BECAUSE you are not being bullied or silenced by a quack. He's actually correct with the cease and desist. If you re-listen to the section of this video where Doctor Mike addresses the content of the cease and desist, it is solely about the fact that the short - being out of context - portrays the other Doctor as recommending smoking, which he doesn't. He isn't saying "I don't want to be held responsible for my own words" he is saying, "Your short paints me in a false narrative suggesting I endorse smoking which I don't, take it down as it's harmful to me" He isn't asking for the podcast to be removed, or for the specific section of misinformation he said during the podcast to be removed; he only wants the short that falsely portrays him as recommending smoking removed, and he is correct to do so. I'm not sure why Doctor Mike glosses over this and focuses on the factuality of the information given by the other Doctor, but the incorrect information that was given by the other Doctor has absolutely nothing to do with the cease and desist. Given the content of the cease and desist, it's not an attempt to bully, silence or scare Doctor Mike, but instead the correct legal response to a form of defamation caused by an out of context short creating a misleading and false narrative. It would be right for Doctor Mike to, in this instance, remove the short as it is defamatory.

He'll put himself on blast for incorrect info, and do his best to fix it. And if he doesn't understand a specific science, he'll bring in a specialized doctor for what he's talking about and make sure to listen to them since that's their area of expertise.
