Hungerford is 6 miles from where I live, in 87 I was at a playgroup, we were scheduled to go for a. group picnic on Hungerford common that exact day but we didn't end up going because a few kids were ill and it was decided to cancel it.... I don't really remember it but my parents mention it every time something about Michael Ryan pops up 😬😬😬😬

All 4 men who went on gun rampages in the UK, used legally held weapons. Michael Ryan, killed 15, injured 16 (Hungerford, Berkshire, England 1987,) Thomas Hamilton,killed 17 - 16 children 1 teacher (Dunblane, Scotland 1996), Derek Bird, killed 12, injured 11 (several small towns - county of Cumbria, England 2010), and Jake Davison,killed 5 [1 child] injured 2 (Plymouth, Devon, England 2021). All had mental health problems. Says a lot for the UK gun licensing system.

People who think nothing of killing a lot of people would certainly not care if the guns they were using were illegal. All firearm bans do is leave citizens to be sitting ducks. Also, due to the lax immigration status in many parts of the world, as well as the underlying reasons for violence not being dealt with, legal citizens are being murdered, sometimes just with knives or even bare hands. The West no longer know how to defend themselves anymore, and worse, people are believing more and more that they shouldn't. God, provide comfort to the victims' families, and be with us now.

Don't use this tragedy to assert your misguided brainwashed political views. The logical error is so obvious that it can only be attributed to willful ignorance. Are you against vehicle licenses too? After all some people will still drive without a license. Let's just ignore the many many more accidents that would result in significantly more incapable people habitually driving everywhere. Total deaths from firearms per 100k people UK 0.24 USA 10.89 Yup, no issue there... I mean it's not 0 for the UK so that means 0.24 = 10.89. It's only 45x more. Fact: Violent crime levels between the UK and USA are comparable but significantly less deaths in the UK due to less of those involving fire arms. I don't care how you justify your flawed ideology, that's the reality. Deal with it or don't whatever but don't use this situation to assert your political views while trying to disguise yourself with superficial politeness like a cult leader raking in their victims.

I remember this happening I was 11 or 12, it was all over the news, Hungerford is an hour away from where I live - in fact I was there today. I used to know a guy who was there on the day and was from Hungerford, and was in the same school year as Ryan. He says everyone knew he was a weird gun nut, it was common knowledge. In fact he used to boast about driving around with his machine gun in his car. Even before the UK introduced its strict gun laws banning all automatic weapons and handguns, gun crime was practically unheard of outside bank raids, there wasn't a gun ownership culture - so this was the first time something like this had happened, hence the response was the complete tightening and restrictions of firearms.

I was a member of a gun club from 1985 to 1987. I remember distinctly target shooting in the indoor range with one other person stood on my left side shooting a Colt 1911 .45 caliber with an extended magazine. That person was Michael Ryan. I used to visit a gun shop in Marlborough with my father-in-law, a shop where Ryan worked (he always made out he owned the business, but he didn't) when anyone he knew, including us entered the shop, the first thing he would do was to grab a pistol from under the counter a point it at us (for a laugh). We all knew he was totally unhinged and would never be able to own a firearm or shotgun certificate, but for a bent police officer my father-in-law knew, and I met once or twice, bragged he was so clever that he could get anyone the appropriate certificates, and that's what he did! I only knew his first name, and will not mention it here. I knew a few of the victims (through my father-in-law) who lived at the time in Chilton Foliat, less that 2 miles from Hungerford. May they rest in peace.

I thought wow but forgot but back in again later and he was there I asked one of the women about him they said he was given up at birth because of his birth defects and a nurse adopt him because she had training in his issues. So I say to my husband one day about the job and the little boy he said he had a great nephew his niece gave up the boy because of birth defects. I said wow it could be him. We went over to his brother's house of the boy and my husband said something to them they was never allowed to see him or talk to him but the adopted mom would give up dates to his older brother and grandparents so they brought a picture out of the little boy and it was the one at the center on a large ball I had seen him on.

One positive aspect that came from the madness of this event was it brought about the ban of the sort of weapons that no regular citizen has any business whatsoever, owning. The whole issue of guns + gun ownership is far from complex, comparing the UK with the US provides results as clear as you could ever want, the reality of things is plain for all to see. Where guns are freely available within society there is a high level of gun crime + violence, as we see in the US. Where guns are banned + strictly controlled, that society will experience very little gun crime + violence, as we see in the UK. It really is that simple, by removing a threat from society you remove, or at least reduce, the threat it offers. As I said, it's far from complex, in fact it's painfully obvious, which leads to the question of the US + the carnage they allow to continue, unchecked, to this day. What is going on in America, mass shootings, school shootings, gun crime is out of control + they do nothing to prevent it, wtf is going on??? Well, again it's quite simple to answer that question but it's ugly + it can't be justified, which is why you rarely see it brought to any attention. I like to do so, though, I've followed this issue for a number years, now, there's something about it that's most unusual which keeps me interested, it relates to the fundamental question I mentioned before. America + guns, what is going on?????? The voting majority feel that owning guns is in some way important, so much so they're willing to ignore no end of violence, everything that comes with guns in society, as long as they get to keep their guns they're happy. That's how it is, America wants its guns, why they should be allowed to keep them, however, that's something no one is able to provide a satisfactory answer for. That's the unusual thing I was on about, an issue you're either for, or against, + in this case the majority are for guns, they just can't come up with a credible argument to support their being so. How do guns benefit American communities, what advantages do they offer????? Errrrrrr....... Questions like that, they haven't got a clue!!!!! A common attempt to justify themselves is to state, the right to bear arms is in The Constitution.......... So what, the idea that makes it right is laughable, typical of what you get with regards to this matter. Guns have no place in a modern society + offer nothing beneficial to it, that's quite simply a fact, another one is people don't need a gun, they have absolutely no good reason for having one. Protection/Self-defence, is the reason most often given for having a gun which again I find laughable. People say that without thinking, unless they're a moron, otherwise they'd realise there's not much sign of any protection coming from all these weapons, the US is the most dangerous nation in the developed world, fool!!!!! Trying to justify any pro-gun stance invariably leads to looking like an idiot, I can walk all over any of the same old arguments that people use, I enjoy doing so, it's easy enough + requires little intelligence, I prove that much quite clearly! Anyway, just to be clear before I go, America loves its guns, guns they don't need, can't justify, + bring nothing but crime + violence, no amount of which, however, could ever justify giving them up, at least not to this day.............. In the future, who knows?.?.?.?.

How can this happen inside the UK? They have a zero tolerance for guns

Amen. It's funny how having a zero tolerance policy doesn't seem to keep crazy gunmen from killing. It's really weird, right?

@@danielrobbins9776 at least this doesn't happen ALL THE TIME like in the US. In each of the last three years, there have been more than 600 mass shootings, almost two a day on average.

This happened in 1987. We didn't have our gun reforms then. After Dunblane in 96, that's when we cracked right down on it. We decided two in 10 years was plenty enough

I don't like the insinuations that something triggered this, it was never triggered, it was his choise. he chose to kill, he wanted nothing else than to kill and that is what he did, this was done by a man that only wanted this a man that chose this, independently of any childhood factors, ot having a bad bay, or not hugged enough por other silly excusee. Please CHOOSE then act, and ONLY that, the WHY is never relevant at all and just an excuse
@montanamangum4026
@montanamangum4026 Жыл бұрын
Actually Sir, the why is relevant to many. Not to excuse the perpetrator, but rather to be able to identify the mental problem so it can be used as a preemptive strike to prevent another incident. I agree with you. No one can determine another's choice. It's impossible.

@dashippo Exactly. The Americans are out in full force on this video. This happened almost 40 years ago, it's that rare they made a TV episode about it. If we did a TV episode on every mass shooting in America, we'd be there watching every day for the next thousand years
