The font for the numerals is DIN, a typeface designed by engineers for the use on German road signs. DIN stands for Deutsches Institut für Normung or German Institute for Standardisation. DIN became really popular in the 90s, when a modernised version for print use was released. The font in the date window is Helvetica. I guess they got that off the shelf. - I guess they wanted to make this watch look as if it had been designed by German engineers - I think they succeeded. Good review! I like that you are really upfront about not being sponsored - I’ve just heard that a certain 400k subscriber channel is not.

Sorry, a word on the Junghans: it has domed plexiglass which was common in the 1960s when it was designed. (The Omega Speedmaster Professional also has it.) -It’s a dress watch and really does not need much of a water resistance. The movement in the hand wound version is a customised ETA 2801-2 and the automatic uses a customised ETA 2824-2. That is quite common around the £800 mark.

Personally I think this watch is a good option but the better looking option to me is the one with Ronda Quartz movement and No seconds hand. Why? Because seconds hand isn’t necessary, it’s slimmer and it sticks to its minimalistic approach much better. All while offering a more sensible price but to each their own.

The price premium for Junghans is not simply down to design but also (a) the brand's heritage & intrinsic value, and (b) the fact they're made in Germany. German labour costs are massively higher than Chinese.

Cool. This watch is not for me, and it's a bit unfortunate to see genuine leather at this price point with a watch that's all about the looks, but the watch has a good finish with attention to detail, which I appreciate. It's what the MVMT automatic should have been. But what makes it cool to me is that they have actual quality watches at a high yet reasonable price as a fashion watch brand. This means tons of people get exposed to actually decent watches so they're not getting spoonfed nothing but chinese dropshipped junk. I think the watch itself is a bit uncool, but I greatly appreciate the niche they carved out for themselves.

I think we need a new Sternglas video. Especially about the Sedius with mecaquartz. These days sternglas is quite transparent with their whole vallue chain. Some parts to come from Asia. But the watches are msnufactured mostly in germany. They don't say the names but I know by location which it is. So it seems Dugena is one of their manufacturer. So quality is guarenteed.

Personally, I wouldn't pay more than £200 for any watch with an 8000 series Miyota. 9000 series, certainly. Seiko NH3X series, sure, why not. Seiko 7S26 or 7S36...only because of the iconic and discontinued SKX. But certainly not a Miyota 8000 series movement in a pretty case with some sapphire and a printed dial. Also, the use of the word "Zeitmesser" strikes me as slightly disingenuous. "Zeitmesser" is a German word for "Chronometer", though it's not as tightly regulated a term as in Switzerland, if at all. Idk, it just rubs me the wrong way, even if it's technically not violating anything.

I'd say it's cool, but really depends on what you want it for. Purists won't think so, but if you don't want to spend Junghans money but want that Bauhaus design, with actual good quality materials and finish, and of course that sapphire glass, what's not to like? I'd even go for the quartz version for the secondless dial, thinness, and at roughly 1/2 the price of the automatic.

Lotta money for a cheap old myota movement that doesnt hack. Especially when you can get the far superior nh35 in watches half the price.

uncool, would've been a radically different vote if the pricing was more sensible

Watch it, watch it, (no pun etc) don't say anything bad about the Seiko 5. That's the watch that all others in this price range should be judged. I've got a vintage and a modern 5 and they're great.

Seiko 5 is good, reliable, and utterly boring. Its like a porridge, it gives you all you need, but are rather dull and tasteless.

I would rate this cool, but for the price the Orient Defender (automatic) is half the price, and a much better watch.

I dont understand watches like this with an automatic movement. Just buy the quartz version if u like the look of it.

Just cool. Too many Minimalist trend not bringing any new. Bulova for les that 200 has the American Clipper, much better and with true heritage. Better than the Orient Bambino (I got the same watch, but something just don’t feel it right}

If I ever want a minimalist watch, I’ll go to Nomos, despite the higher price point. I’d rather have very few good (and thus expensive) watches than having cheaper but lower quality ones. My current collection is composed solely of a few Rolexes, some inherited, others presents, and others bought by me. It’s worth it.
