That's a gorgeous Sumo. I have the Coral Blue Sumo SBDC069 i. When it comes to colors however, there's something really special about the anthracite. Maybe because it was often used in their earlier divers. It just adds an extra touch of class for me. One of my favorite pieces is my Anthracite Turtle SRPC23

I have a sumo and I love it. Nice video Pete! To me, the Sumo is very different compared to other seiko divers. i love the "bubble" font of the second generation sumos. I also enjoy looking at it.

I came to own my first Seiko diver after having purchased four Grand Seikos. People bash Seiko divers about bezel alignment and whatever but I am amazed at how much quality and durability Seiko offers for such modest prices. Perhaps I have been fortunate in my choice of Seiko references but I have never felt that I have been wearing either a cheap watch or a substandard watch when I have had a Seiko diver on my wrist.

Love the channel Pete-even like that bezel wasn’t set at 12 (poking the bear at the OCD among us)?

Thanks for the vid Pete, My first good watch was a Seiko turtle in 1984 it was $125 Cdn and like the watch and wore it for many years I was 16. Seiko continues to impress me even more recently with all their offerings. I'm into the Presage range now and the 5 series with olive green dial. I'm looking at an Alpinest, Land turtle green dial or even a King turtle. Regards from Canada. Chris

I have a Seiko sumo… And I have Homage which I bought later from San Martin…Both are great! The bracelet and they fit and finish of the homage are equivalent to the Seiko. I have 10 Seiko’s in my collection . 5 Seiko homage watches. I have a ‘Monster’ homage on my wrist right now. My Seiko ‘monster’ is in the box. Wear what you like!

Tricky to respond to this. First, agree (largely) with the sentiment to wear what you like but otoh what does that mean when what we like is (if you are human) inevitably informed by and inextricably linked to the opinions of others.

That's a really nice edition of the Sumo. I actually bought the other JDM version with gradient (fumè?) blue dial and yellow seconds hand.

saw that and it was a close run thing for me, ultimately it was the watch/strap combo for this one that swayed me.

I’ve got one of these but with the steel bracelet, it’s a great watch. My Sumo is not in as nice condition as yours as it’s already dinged up on bezel and case (German Shepard’s teeth are tough!). I much prefer the look of your orange rubber strap and second hand though.
@floydmorrison20253 жыл бұрын
Stunning! I had no idea that this anthracite dial model existed. Love the way the orange strap matches the seconds hand perfectly. Did you purchase this watch on bracelet and match the strap later? Cool video!
@PeteMcConvill3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Floyd. Yeah, the watch comes on a bracelet but I never wore it - or even sized it - bought the orange rubber band the day I ordered the sumo, the instant it arrived swapped them over. I really should sell those bracelets I suppose.

There is no better reason to own a watch. If it makes you happy and reflects you that’s all that matters. Not my thing, but I do love the unique gray dial color against the joyous orange. Great combination. I may end up looking for a gray and orange watch for myself.

Thanks Jeremy - you make an interestng point on a watch 'reflecting the wearer'. Obviously thats really important to me but I wonder if thats commonly felt/understood. I suspect a large number/most people see/assess a watch as an object separate from themselves which I find an alien concept but they seem quite at home with.

@@PeteMcConvill One can assess a watch as an object separate from themselves, but the fact of the matter is that a watch reflects our style, our tastes, our personalities and, at times, our financial status. Any article we wear, ultimately, says something about us. Love your channel. The only thought provoking watch channel on KZbin. 👊

I'm a Seiko fan but have stayed away from the larger divers. I own a 4th gen Monster, a Turtle, and an SKX007. Just wondering if my 6.75 wrist could wear the Sumo because I think these are amazing.
