__________
Tim Locastro of the Arizona Diamondbacks should be your favorite weird player. He's the fastest player in MLB and maybe the best at MLB stolen bases as well. We also talk about Ronald Acuña stolen bases and Ronald Acuña 40/40.
In this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production, we discuss all the quirks that make Tim Locastro, Tim Locastro. Chief among these would be Tim Locastro hit by pitches, which are a big part of his game. The Tim Locastro Diamondbacks certainly gain a lot from these, as it allows for additional Tim Locastro stolen bases.
We'll also pay tribute to Craig Biggio HBP king, who is the HBP all time leader.
Some other things that Timmy is good at include; infield hits, as evidenced by his ridiculous Statcast data from Baseball Savant.
Overall, I hope this video convinces you to adopt Tim Locastro as Your Favorite Weird Baseball Player. He's definitely mine.

When I was a kid, I asked my dad why players don't just try to get hit by the ball at the plate. He thought I was crazy. No one would try to get hit. I also asked him why more players don't just try to hit grounders or between outfielders rather than going for home runs. Something tells me, if I played baseball, I'd be playing like Locastro.

I was idly watching an 'overturned calls' supercut and noticed about 98% of them were at 1st. This got me thinking about all those past players that never got a chance to challenge. All of a sudden, i realised the challenge has completely, fundamentally changed the game. All those home calls, blown calls, famously flat out wrong decisions from history are all gone! And this vid is right, you are gonna see a lot more of these Lomachnko guys over the next few years because of the challenge. Good times for stolen bases and small ball.

I love seeing him successfully reach base on chops. I can't tell if it's an intentional strategy of his or not, but using chops has been something that I've wanted to see more speedsters try to use to get on base.

I'm way late, but this reminded me of my personal favorite weird player season - 1993 Lance Blankenship, for the Oakland A's. Over 300 plate appearances, hits .190, with a .363 OBP. Way more walks than hits, 67 to 48. Strangely enough, he also strikes out 64 times, which is a lot for 328 PA's by a non-power hitter, and calls into question the plate discipline you'd assume he'd have, with more walks than hits. Oh, and he also played at least 2 games at every position that year (plus DH) except for P, C, and 3B, and was used as a pinch hitter and a pinch runner a number of times. [In his short career {1300 PA's,} he hit .222, slugged .299, with a .350 OBP.]
