I’ve been hoping for a Joey Votto video for a while, he is one of my absolute favourite players ever and he is certainly a unique player considering his position. He is an OBP king at a position that is better known for home run leaders. Yet, he makes it work incredibly well and he probably should’ve won MVP over Stanton in 2017. Loved the video!

Don't want to vote for Stanton because HR's = instant PEDs, right? OBP means nothing if you can't run, because the defense forgets about you now that you're a runner and not a hitter. I would say the most recent serious flirtation with hitting .400 was by Todd Helton in 2000. After slipping under the .400 mark on June 11th, he reached a high of .399 on August 18th (the '94 season ended with Gwynn sitting at .394 on August 11th) before trending back down to a still-bonkers .372 at season's end, a 40-game stretch where he hit "only" .295.

Always been extremely underrated mostly because he's in Cincinnati. I'm so grateful to the scout(s) that discovered Joey Votto and to the Reds for taking a chance and drafting him. Though he may not retire with definite hall of fame numbers the MLB Hall of Fame would be completely illegitimate if Joey doesn't get in. I honestly believe he is one of, if not the best pure hitter in all of Reds history and while I recognize my heavy bias being such a die hard Reds fan I would absolutely put him in the top 100 best hitters in MLB history. The dude is literally a once in a generation talent and it's a complete shame that he has never gotten the recognition nationally that he deserves 💯

Great in depth analysis of these numbers. Also keep in mind the main reason nobody hits .400 is the age of specialization. In those eras where 20 complete games were the norm, a batter got to face the same pitcher 4 to 5 times a game. Now it’s normal to face 4 to 5 different pitchers who are specialized to get you out specifically. Batters have said if they could just face the same pitcher second or third time around in the same game, they can figure them out.
