The idea that following tutorials is worthless is a fallacy. It's true that you can watch a tutorial and then have no idea how to replicate what you just did on your own. However you do assimilate the way things are done in a general sense. It loses its mystery, it's not some obscure thing anymore but something that you've seen how it's done but you can't do it yourself yet. Now it's time to struggle and try to do it on your own and you'll fail a lot but eventually through struggling you'll eventually create your own little app (which will have a lot of copied code from the tutorials you followed before).

Freemote grad here. I just want to say that Aaron's (and Jan's) course is the real deal. Two things I was completely failing at before Freemote was coding and making money. I had done a 12-week bootcamp, and left more confused than when I had entered. KZbin and Udemy did help a lot, but I still couldn't convince anyone to hire me. After Freemote, I'm not only confident in my skills as a coder, but I'm also making money as a freelancer while my skills continue to improve. And I get to do it from anywhere (currently in Georgia, the country, and looking at Spain next).

Two years ago I decided to switch careers from HW to SW. It was a hard way, but my comment is not about it. At the end of my way I knew React pretty well (as for a beginner) and I landed my first job a year ago as a Vuejs developer... Living in Europe and listening to American people got me a bit wrong. My biggest mistake was not to check the market before I started to study SW. In my region (Vienna that is) most companies in 2021 where hiring vue and angular developers. So I needed to switch once again...

This is great advice. How were you able to get the job with no Vue experience?
@dariuszlegizynski6591
@dariuszlegizynski6591 2 жыл бұрын
@@bez1196 In my case, my current employer was aware of my situation (that I only knew React). He was only concerned, if I am willing to learn Vue. With the knowledge of vanilla JavaScript, one can learn Vue in a very short time (like a week). Of course, I'm not talking about mastering it. Also, React and Vue is alike. I had a month time between switching jobs. I used it to practice Vue.

Pretty solid advice to be honest, especially the first one but all of the KZbinrs that I'm subscribed to are quite transparent and honest about selling things to their audience so I can't say much about that. Currently going the low-code route for freelancing right now. It's more difficult than I thought to be honest but I refuse to give up.

Whoever sees this: What courses are most recommended for teaching JUST enough information and then forcing you to apply what you learned so you don't waste 50 hours? (aside from Freemote)
@waltersumofan

Scrimba is interesting, as what you learn is editable right on the screen, so you can not just watch and code along but play in the sandbox as it were. They have some free courses, try a small one see if you like that style. A lot of this is finding what style works for you. Could be books, blogs, passive videos, active videos. Also maybe you don't need the same style with each topic. Git docs were enough to get started, SASS I needed a video. Funny world. Have a checklist!

I'm still stuck on Week 1 of Freemote...2 weeks later lol. But that's my choice, I'm absorbing so much *basic* knowledge, it's unreal. I love it. I'm ready to get to week two, but the tried and true way of writing down notes (as you've mentioned) is truly helping me retain the information. Thanks, Aaron! 🤘🏾😁🤘🏾

My content is 99% unique and absolutely a gold mine of knowledge… so do as I do! Lesson 1 middle fingers up to JavaScript 2 middle fingers up to Python 3 learn the low level stuff we do so much off And before you know it you’ll be a tech guru. 😂 and I’m selling nothing, I don’t even ask for likes and subscribes! I just document my own projects or I truly love to to teach lowlevel stuff.
