Now I know more why most of mechanics do that sealing in the part of timing chain. Not only because of the high oil pressure at that part but the main reason was that sureface imperfection. Deep thanks, keep it up those simple yet informative videos.

Toyota 103 is really good stuff, but its expensive and hard to get! If you can't get your hands on Toyota 103, I can recommend Permatex Ultra Black (#82180), which can be purchased at Walmart. I have used Permatex Ultra Black for years, and have never had a problem. I've used it for oil pan re-seals, valve covers, and timing chain covers -- it is really good stuff, like the Toyota 103.

For the stuff indicated in this video, literally anything works. You can use the same silicone caulk that you would use around your bath tub.
@mosthated81902 жыл бұрын
@@paulstandaert5709 looks like somebody used that caulk that you’re referring too on a 4Runner I just bought and didn’t hold up. I used this exact same Toyota fipg on my Corolla w a felpro cork gasket and been working great for almost a year now.
@paulstandaert57092 жыл бұрын
@@mosthated8190 It's certainly possible. On my tundra between the water pump and thermostat housing, Toyota went away from a gasket and went with goop. The RTV that I applied didn't hold up there, either. If there is significant pressure involved, I find that "regular" silicone/RTV doesn't work so well. The Japanese have historically used a goop that turns much harder on things such as their oil pans which is probably like this Toyota FIPG stuff. That stuff would have worked where my RTV silicone did not. Only once in the last 10 years have I dealt with a cork gasket. I am not certain that the Japanese have ever used them? They were "paper", rubber, or metal.
@paulstandaert5709 Жыл бұрын
@@coldhands4071 Every now and then, a person finds himself in a pinch where you either use the silicone caulking because it's all that you have that might possibly work, or you use nothing at all and guarantee yourself that you will need to go back in and re-do it. That New Process Gear A-543 that I put together back when I was 19 years old, 22 years ago, still doesn't leak from the seams. Note that I said "silicone". Not "siliconized". I have not tried the latter version for automotive use.

Hello. Can I use permatex ultra black instead of FIPG oil pan black or Toyota Seal packing 08826-00080 or Threebond 1207B?

AllData's instructions for sealing the mating surface between the timing cover, valve cover, and the block as follows: Seal packing: Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent Remove any oil from the contact surface. Install the cylinder head cover within 3 minutes and tighten the bolts within 15 minutes after applying seal packing. Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after the installation. I'm not sure I can get the valve cover on my Sequoia's 5.7L in place within three minutes due to all the wiring and other crap I have to maneuver it through. 🤬

If it’s so good then why did the sealant fail in the first place. That alone makes me reluctant to use it again. Too many ls460’s having coolant leaks because of this sealant failing.

Yes, it is applied at seam. Don't forget that a gasket will still be applied. This just helps gasket at that seam. 👍

Not really. If you sealed it up already and used another sealing then you should be okay, no reason to do double work. But if you used none, then it would probably be a good idea. Just keep FIPG in mind if you have to do this job again on a Toyota

Hi, my Camry Service Manual (mine is a 2004 Camry) says use "Toyota seal packing 08826-00080" on the spot where you showed. Is the 103 the replacement (newer) version of the 08826-00080? Can I substitute the 08826-00080 with the 103? Also, the SM also says (and shows with arrows), the front location AND the back location of the same spot you have put it, meaning, in the front spot where you put, and on the rear exact same spot. And so, why have you put it on only the front spot? Just wondering! Thanks.

"Can I substitute the 08826-00080 with the 103?" Yes. According to my local dealer the 00295-00103 replaces all prior versions of Oil pan / Camshaft housing sealer. NOTE Large label on on the box reads "Seal Packing 103 (FIPG} " 15 minute assembly window, 30-60 minute before driving, 15 - 16 hour cure full harden. Also has shelf life use by date on flat end of tube.

Yes, but as a shop owner, you do not mention HOW is this sealant better than any other RTV or sealant on the market? Yes, Toyota says so but why? VW say use a different sealant and they have the same materials on the engine. Mercedes says to use their sealant. Honda says use hondabond only. I run a shop and never buy into specific manufacture's propaganda saying, "Use our sealant and no other.....and why? Because we say so." Unless the stuff is applied incorrectly (i.e. improperly cleaned surfaces due to mechanic error), then I doubt this stuff is any better than aviation permatex that's cured properly. Or any better than a urethane-based sealant which I've never seen leak?
@makemoneyonline87933 жыл бұрын
I've used a few of the permatex gasket makers and followed the instructions and never had a leak, Permatex is just as good or better as any manufacturers rtv silicone.

So since im going to be doing this job on my scion TC im good to use any RTV mix right? it dosent have to be what he is using?

@@dingodyno9016 Black RTV is fine. I like 3m window weld black Urethane for almost everything and also aviation permatex for some applications (like on paper gaskets), but black rtv is just fine for this application, as long as you don't gush it on like toothpaste. . The keys are: (a) cleaning both mating surfaces from any oils before (b) not over-using too much RTV. A thin bead or coating is all you need. You can also spread it with your fingers. You don't want it gushing out on the inside and getting into the engine. (c) allowing enough time for the RTV to fully cure before adding fluids and starting the engine back up. Might be as short as 6 hours to as long as overnight. 12 hours or more is better for a full cure.

@@komoru Toyota put more than a "thin bead" on the timing cover for my 2008 Sequoia's 5.7L. There is a "thin bead" gushing out/running all along the joint between the timing cover and the block. Soooo.... Was my engine assembled by a moron?
