I completely agree. I came into the community when Zodiac was a top 1, and Tartarus was the only top 1 that garnered a lot of attention after that. I miss the Technical era because everyone, like Aeonair, Npesta, Xaro, and Samifying weren't just good players/creators - they were good entertainers. I watched Tidal wave as it got verified. Zoink was really funny during the stream and listening to him genuinely react was really sweet. However, I know that he'll never upload a rewind video or any video like that. I look up to Nswish for inspiration as a player, but I think his reign showed us an era of clicking and getting views, which is all top players are nowadays. I love Zoink and Thnnder, but I love other youtubers like Zeronium and Doggie more because they're not just playing the game to play the game - they're playing the game to influence others.

I feel that good top 1s are making a comeback with levels like Apocalyptic Trilogy, Grief, Ascension to Heaven, and Flamewall. All of those levels are amazing, and are deserving of hype.

grief looks cool but its too similar to slopperhouse and will without a doubt spawn hundreds of slop levels for fnm04 and neiro to rack in bank off of. as the previous replies said, ascension is in development hell. nobody talks about it. Apoc is literally just the 3 classics repackaged. Unoriginal. Flamewall, ill give that one a chance; im not super excited for yet another hell level, and it looks kinda generic, but the length gives it some slack. and some parts look nice.

That’s what everyone was saying, are saying and will say in the future, because it isn’t fucking true. Both edge of destiny and night rider are recent or semi-recent levels and let’s be honest, the list was always mostly filled with somewhat mediocre levels so I don’t really see how the list got “worse”. The notion that good levels are becoming “rarer” is completely untrue. You people only like the old list because of nostalgia. Period.

I think the best way to shake this up in 2.2 is a new top 1 that doesn't predominantly rely on ship and wave, would be really fun to see a hard spider or robot level in the top 1, even if it's only a matter of time before it gets moved down as a result of people just getting better at those 2 game modes. It would also challenge even the current top players, and a challenge to see who could adapt to the unusual gamemodes and 2.2 features the best

This is why Slaughterhouse is so awful as a top 1. Firework had this same type of hype. Trick's hardest was way easier than it, and it had taken him months and months with over 100k attempts. Then Spaceuk came out of the blue with a random new top 1 nobody cared about. It was extremely disappointing to see Firework at number 2 after all of the build up to its verification.

Slaughterhouse is not awful as a top 1 at all. In fact it was good as a top one. It showed how far the community had came in terms of skill it doesn’t matter how fast space had “verified” it the level was legendary during its run

most people might be confused but my fa levels rarely end up being top demons like the average person but rather levels like Knights of Thunder, Solar Flare, Edge of Destiny, Sunset Sandstorm, Rust and even Oblivion. The reason is because they aren't made to be top 1's but rather made for a unique style of both deco and gp. Another thing I've noticed in the comments is the completion vid thing, yeah I agree, I love zeroniums, techs, doggies and npestas longer completion vids that show the funny moments and the progression.

I’ve been around since Bloodbath was crowned the hardest demon. It felt so special, that’s the same feeling I got when levels like Bloodlust and Tartarus got verified. It felt like they were impossible to beat when they were top 1s. Now it doesn’t really feel like that anymore.

I joined the community in early-mid 1.9 and honestly back then with the cataclysm, riot cyclic rivalry, bloodbath stuff that went on, top 1s were very new so they were more excitable when they were happening, but another reason is that because of how progress is tracked now compared to say bloodbaths verification it kind of makes it seem less exciting, mainly because once you see someone has like 80% or more on a top 1 you kind of know it will be verified soon. This is especially true when people upload progress from like 30% onwards as it gives you a frame of time of progression, so you can almost use an educated guess to know when it will be verified. Another thing to mention is that one thing that bloodlust, bloodbath and limbo all have in common is that they are longer levels, but also that they had history and hype around them before they were even finished being built, let alone being verified.

Bloodlust was popular and extremely hyped because of the fact that gd was had nothing interesting going on, as explained in a Mattmart video there wasn’t much going on at the time which led to bloodlust being extremely hyped up. I probably haven’t explained my thoughts very well but bloodlust definitely wasn’t hyped up by the fact that knobbelboy was very unknown and made slow progress of the level.

Bloodlust is the last top 1 that got me hyped. Now it only takes like a few days for a new extreme demon to come out, and a lot of them just seem similar to me. It isn’t so special as it was anymore…

What we need is something like Limbo at a top 1 level. No nesscarily the same memory gimmick, but a level so different from others and seems impossible from outsider perspective; the last of these kinds of levels we got were Slaughterhouse, which has the face of a Top 1 level, looking near impossible. It felt special. Tidal Wave is fantastic atmospheric level, but it just dosent say “Top 1” it would’ve been better if it were just a regular list demon instead of a Top 1 or even 10. Creators need to think less about how they can take the top 1 for themselves, but instead make something no one’s ever seen before, something so bizarre or seemingly impossible that you’d watch someone attempt it and actually wonder if they can beat it. 2.2 will probably allow this to happen. Someone will create a level using the new features in such a different and impossible way that it creates a top 1 with real hype behind it. It’ll happen soon, and 2.2 is a sure way to bring that hype back to the community.

I remember being a trash mobile player seeing all the stuff about top 1s. I thought blood bath was so cool, and then bloodlust came out and looked even better. I wasn’t good at the game so I only really watched videos of the level being played. There used to be so many different players verifying different crazy levels, now there’s the 3-5 best players verifying every top 1, no one lower can verify them since the levels are just too difficult.

The only special one that was verified recently is Silent Clubstep, after that it didn’t feel right. Mainly because Zoink doesn’t add pressure or any specialty into the levels he beats. It’s just created then beaten. No history at all. That’s my take on everything.

I think tidal wave also was rushed so badly with copy and pasted deco because it was a solo instead of taking the time like bloodlust and adding memorable deco and decent deco. The gameplay is also repetitive and it feels just like slaughterhouse kinda. Firework is a good example of an epic top 1

OniLink actually took their time to make the structures and they look fine to me. the idea of the top 1 came to realization after the levels core gameplay was finished and the deco was like 95% done. but yeah, to me it just doesnt seem like top 1, i liked it waaay more even when it was a top 10

Even though i wasnt there when stuff like Bloodbath or Sonic Wave were verified. I still cant help but think of how cool it would've been to be there. So i had this idea, what if someone were to make another demon list. That only accepts verifird levels (doesnt have to be rated) and there would be a difficulty ceiling (like yatagarasu difficulty or something like that) and it might have its small little community? The reason why it may not anymore is either because the comunity's playerbase is getting older (the ones who were here for a long time) or that they just lose interest slowly

I have a feeling this isn’t the point your trying to get across but top levels don’t have to be good and high quality, that isn’t their purpose. Their purpose is to be the hardest demon, their gameplay doesn’t have to be good and the decoration doesn’t have to be good as that isn’t what it’s trying to achieve. However I do agree with the fact that fixed hitboxes are sort of unfair as you could just simply move the spike upwards or downwards and it would work as well.

Tbh, I get your point of view and I agree but not in 100%. Here's why: I think that the fact people are not that hyped anymore with a new top1 verifications is not only because we "expected it" to be verified and just waited for it to happen. In my opinion one of the biggest factors here is that we almost reached a skill cap for GD 2.1. After levels like Acheron, Slaughterhous or SC being verified, we "got used to" see people beat levels of that difficulty. So now if there's another level, harder then previous top1 it is not that amazing when it get verified because it's still a level that is around that skill cap like the previous one... just slightly closer. Back then, when the top1 was Bloodlust or Sonic Wave or even Zodiac the skill cap was always rising pretty fast with each top1 we had. If we could rate a skill cap from 0 to 100% (where 100 is unbeatable skill cap) we would say that back then it was going f.e like from 45 to 50 to 60 to 78 to 80 etc with each new top1. But now we are going like from 99 to 99.05 to 99.15 to 99.30... We are just sloooowly going for that 100% skill cap but we'll never really reach it because we can always create a level with the same difficulty as top1 but always just a little bit longer... boom, another top1. We can make an analogy for this... It is always more cool/awesome when someone who always was getting C/F in school gets an A+ for once than getting an A+ by a person that always gets A+. But ofc. when 2.2 comes out it will make skill cap drop down like -20% for sure. And then we will again go for huge skill cap jumps like +2% and then people will again feel the hype when there is another top1 :) But overall good video, like I said, I agree with what you said... just I felt like it's not ONLY that what you said what makes new top1s not special anymore ;) Have a nice day/night.

Another big reason is that litteraly evry single top1 other than 3-4 of them have all been hell levels, tidal wave was actually pretty well received due to this but doggie is verifying grief (he was set to verify but I havent seen ANY progress) grief is kind of a hell levels but it also has its own parts that stand out, but when its verified it would likely overtake tidal wave's spot as a top 1 which will likely bore the community even more. However Grief was actually pretty well recieved by the community and especially mods which all seem to love the level.

Overall my opinion to fixing this is by making a top 1 without a wave, which would be more memorable. Nowadays, every top 1 has at least some based wave gameplay (slaughterhouse, tidal wave), or is just some nine circles level, a hell level, or just both. I think that we can make a new memorable top 1 by thinking outside of the box in terms of gameplay and decoration, not by maintaing it

also, it (this is an assumption because i wasnt in the community back then) used to feel more connected with the community i guess. it seems to be so much more interactive, with rewinds n shit, and memorable, entertaining community members verifiying the levels, not just a top player with limited personality. like, for example, i love zoink, but i so badly want him to do more community shit. it just feels like ur watching a top player play a level now, instead of being on the journey with them

I'd just say most top 1 demons feel the same. the slaughterhouse-firework-aracturus trio two years ago each had their own unique gimmicks that separated them from other demons. think something like cold sweat which garnered a lot of attention because of its memory sections or wasureta with its speed. they're iconic

I agree and felt the same way, like for ex The Human Limit is super buffed like shit and TON618 got ruined for insane buffing, majority of levels are just extremely buffed Wave parts like Kocmoc and Tidal Wave. Exasperation GP is just made so much badly and will never come out (I hope so). Top 50+ Extreme demons are getting verified easily and they aren't that much good.

Good video. I think the problem has existed for a while now though, as another thing to note is older top 1s had history, novelty, and most important, legacy. Examples: Cataclysm being the first verified extreme demon, BB being the spiritual successor to cataclysm and to this day being the only top 1 to have a notable gap between verifier and 1st victor (not to mention the overall later influence), Sonic Wave being Cyclic’s legacy and antithesis to bloodbath. Most modern top 1s (by modern I mean anything passed 2.0) barely have any of the 3 things I mentioned earlier. The only exception I’d say is BloodLust which was like 5 years ago. GD has definitely had the problem much longer than you’d want to believe

At least for me it’s certainly because of the currently existing very high difficulty of top levels. You could kinda of imagine doing the stuff in bloodbath, cata, sonic wave etc. And that’s why it looked cool to me. Nowadays my genuine attitude is “guess that’s pretty hard 😐” at any top level.

As good of a player zoink is i really hope hes not going to be verifying every top 1 top 10 whatever. Also forever ive wanted to make a 2 player duel top 1 that is all the way 2 player duel (like duelo maestro) but its also a memory level. And the deco would 100% be worthy of epic but thats probably never happening lol
