No offense but it's not really truckings fault you ate bad and didn't excersise. Plenty of downtime to run, keep weights in your truck, hell do push-ups on a mat at the truck stop, whatever you can.

Getting in the truck keeps me sane. I like the solitude and time to think. I own the truck and found a great niche that makes more money than when I was an Electric Design Engineer in Silicon Valley. I intend to drive until I am physically unable. When I am at home, I have a million projects to tackle and it's more work work than being in the truck! Everything is paid for so peace of mind comes pretty easy.

I quit after 6 years and was the best decision I've ever made. I have gotten healthier lost 25 pounds in a month since quiting. I've started my 2nd career in emergency medicine and working on my emt currently.

Im looking to get into local, dump truck, or front loading dumpsters garbage truck, im getting my class A, but for the reasons above, I want to stay healthy and go to the gym 5 days a week. Im not going over the road, I dont have a wife or kids, so im really ok with clearing $1500 per week driving a dump truck 10 hours a day 5-6 days per week and staying healthy.

When I started an old timer told me the only difference in the companies were the colors of the trucks, after years ,he was right ,but there are companies that can suit your needs. Quit them, they don't mind. CFI three times J B Hunt 3 times Heartland twice and a whole bunch once.

I work for a fedex ground contractor. I cant complain much about it, all drop and hook team driving. We get 6000-7500 miles a week and sometimes my checks are over 2 grand a week take home. Plus i get 2 days at home every week

When you break the pay down to the hour we dont even make minimum wage. I work locally now Monday thru Friday 5am till 2-3pm and make more money...OTR sucks. 21 years of driving, 14 of those as o/o i noticed it was getting to my health particularly my legs, but most of all when you take a load and you have an appointment then you sit there for hours burning time that stuff is uncalled for, sat for many hours, if you're not gonna keep your appointment don't make it, FCFS is best, and dealing with smaller manufacturers and warehouses are better, the giant companies could care less how much you sit, retired now, living overseas, turned in my CDL and it feels good

Trucking is a great career im a local driver. On my way to work i counted over 30 jobs i can apply for plus those trucks on the road. Just the peace of mind no levels of supervision watching every move u make. I listen to audio books and music. beeing out an about just with no one looking over shoulder is a great blessing

Exactly! I got my CDL two years ago. I drive locally for those two years. I love the fact that I can qualify for a ton of CDL jobs (without endorsements). Computer nerds are getting laid off by the THOUSANDS, and telling their sob stories on Tiktok about being unemployed for a whole year.

My man, I completely understand! Mental health can be a struggle no matter what you’re doing. Search in KZbin how to be happier but most importantly, follow their advice no matter how stupid it sounds. Simply forcing a smile triggers a chain reaction that sets off “happy hormones” to put it simply and is very underrated. There are many more things that can be done but you have to want to do it and demand a change. Good luck!

@@Joshualibbyy mental illness doesn't run in my family but there are a couple that have suffered through depression. I experienced a bout of depression in my late teens. It wasn't severe enough to need medication or therapy. I am also in a low point of my life right now. Due to finances and I'm also going through a mid-life crisis. I'm not going to lecture you or tell you how to deal with mental health issues. I will say that, your career has a lot to do with satisfaction and happiness. Even more so, sometimes surrounding yourself with good family and friends will help you out of a dark place. Trucking is not easy. Isolation might work for some but most of us are social animals and need interaction to be mentally stable and happy. You have to earn a paycheck but your mental health doesn't have a price tag. I wish you well and think about what needs to be done in order to get yourself to a happy place. Life is special and we only have one shot. You can always make money but you can't buy back time. ✌️

I own my own Trucking company with one truck and love it. I use to own more trucks but I sold them and kept one for me to drive. I work 3 days a week and that’s it. I can’t work for a company because it wouldn’t pay me like my company. I have the freedom and the time to do what I want and not stressing about life.

It's part of the job to be gone and there are a lot of spots that get you home and still make decent money. I do this to support my family I make more here then I did before and it's making my family's life better. A part of a man's life is this that you have to be away when it benefits the family. I have worked out of town construction jobs that was necessary to pay the bills. Men should have this capacity as it is built into our DNA we have left home to provide for thousands of years while our families wait for us to return. I love my family and only want the best for them. With that I I will do what I have to to make sure they are provided for. Your video has some good points but I will keep driving because I do love it and it does provide for my family.

I don't intend to stay OTR for more than the next 2-3 years but I still love the job itself, it's all the bs and a lot of the other drivers who are poorly trained

The future of OTR... A driver remotely pilots the truck from the terminal to the on ramp of the highway. Then, a robot drives the truck cross country. If there's traffic, refueling, or something the robot can't handle, a remote driver takes over for a few minutes. At the other end, another remote driver pilots the truck to the terminal and backs it up to the dock. Everyone will get fired or become a remote driver. There are already trucks driving from California to Texas without live operators in the trucks. This could happen quickly.

I've had a different experience in the trucking world so far. What I mean is I've seen trucking companies trying desperately to hold on to their drivers and will try to accommodate them anyway that they can. I found a neat in the trucking world though since so many people quit I go and recover the trucks do Lowe's and don't have to worry about home time or any of that and I also get paid good.

Got my CDL in 2009 but couldn't do over the road because of Army 🪖 reserves and nagging/needy girlfriend. Drove flatbed Frieghtliners in Army as a heavy equipment operator (horizontal engineer). Tried working for Swift a few years ago over the road and only stuck around for 3 weeks. Worked at a navy base 4 years ago for 6 months moving freight on base and transporting dummy torpedoes to different bases all over New England. Drove a milk truck when I first got my license. Truck driving sucks. As much as I love to drive, traffic is out of control. People are obsessed with their cell phones.The DOT is Out for blood. It's lonely, stressful, unhealthy and boring. The deregulation by the government has ruined it. Hyperinflation has made the pay rates unlivable. Government mandates and mega carrier abuse is out of control as well. Much respect to anybody that can do it just for the money. I need to either be satisfied or happy. Money is important but it is secondary. You can make money lots of ways but you can't get time back. I wish this wasn't the case because I thought trucking was going to be my magical fix for poverty. I am currently a doordash driver and have been doing it for 4 years. I'm not getting rich but I have peace of mind and do what I want. ✌️

If you do intermodal you don’t get micromanaged they don’t really bother you at all as long as you keep it moving just know though that it’ll take you six months to a year to learn the railyards if you’re talking Chicago or the East Coast

One good thing about driving... In the cab, your thoughts are your own. You have time to think and learn things. If you develop some rare skills, you could turn them into an amazing job down the road. There is almost no other job that gives you this kind of time to think and learn stuff. If you commit to live in the truck, you won't be wasting money on an empty apartment and you can save a lot of money.

Now is the time to make moves because there are so many jobs in so many different fields that it's ridiculous. Nobody wants to work. Ever since the pandemic started. They are either collecting off of the government, making money online, working from home or doing illegal things for a paycheck. If you're gonna buy a truck FUEL MILEAGE IS EVERYTHING, i would average 6.4 out of my classic xl (500 Detroit 12.7 ) should have bought something with about 435 hp, remember big ponies cost money

I think the biggest problem is guys getting in over their head in debt and putting all their eggs in one basket.. I keep my equipment costs low and rarely finance anything I drive when I want to. When I get out of the truck I get on a tractor and farm or ride a few horses neither pay as well as driving that truck but it does break up the 11/14/10 (70) clock that burns us up. The point is have more than just one revenue stream so you can stay ahead of the burnout and don’t drown yourself in debt to the point that you have to keep the wheels turning

Another imortant thing to mention is that truckers have some sort of stockolm syndrome where if you ever mention any problens in the industry or that your quitting, they'll all pile on you and make you out to be the bad guy instead of simply acknowledging its a crap industry that treats its workers very badly and is in dire need of labor reform!

I only do local get paid by hour only. That being said trucking will kill your health we have the lowest life expectancy for a reason. Also all the crazy hours responsibility we should make 175k on start local 225k minimum over the road. Thanks! I do not regret becoming an O/O one bit. Loved it! My personality fit it more than a company guy and there's nothing wrong with it either way. I will own a truck again some day but not in the traditional truck driver sense. I want to help as many truck drivers as possible and I can do that starting with my channel as well as putting my attention towards growing other businesses in the trucking industry to help on a larger scale. I'm a very ambitious person but even though I love driving, being a driver is not what I'm on this earth to do.

Tired of people promising big miles, and good pay only to keep you sitting, and waiting for that next load, or capping your miles just as you're about to hit their supposed average miles for their drivers. I think to be successful if you’re talking about being over the road or a regional driver where you are on the road 5 to 6 days out of the week I think the way to be successful is to have a shitty home life or not much of a home life at all not that it has to be a total disaster zone just being single with nothing at home it’s probably the best way way I think that if you have a really great home life and a loving familyAnd you’re on the road thinking about home all the time I think eventually he’ll wear you down and either you’ll figure out a way to go local or if you can’t do that you might just get out all together

Man I just started, 3 months in. I’m so frustrated because one of the main reasons I quit my old job and started trucking was for the money and yet I haven’t seen it. I made more at my last job while I’m way more stressed now. I’ve had to ask my parents for extra money every week to help get me by. I can’t afford to feed myself or do personal hygiene after bills on the money I’m making. I feel like a slave. I used to weight train every day but now I lost all my muscle. I’m giving it 2 more weeks and if I’m not making money I’m jumping ship. I think first I’ll try a different company rather than quit the industry though. Something needs to change because I can’t keep doing all this for the chump change they give me.

Pay has to be compared to something else and why not state what the pay is. On Google one place says the average is 77000. That's more than a teacher and without the five years of college. My son in law makes more driving a garbage truck than he did working as an EMT. That is just messed up.

There’s definitely a big disparity in parts of the medical field for sure, 77k is waaaaay above the average though. Of course, teachers are grossly underpaid as well. Pay unfortunately in the trucking field can’t be generalized though as there’s a massive difference between an over the road company driver, a guy that owns his own trucking company, as well as a shuttle driver for a small company. There needs to be better regulation in the right places rather than what’s usually focused on.

Im glad to hear that, im lookong to get into dumpster front loading garbage truck, its a union job health benefits and pension, mon-fri, starts at 4:30am done around 1:00pm. Starts at $28hr, after 3 months probationary training complete, goes to $32hr. Plus have the option to work 5hr shift on saturday morning for $48hr. Im really really considering it!

I got my CDL two years ago. I drive locally for those two years. I love the fact that I can qualify for a ton of CDL jobs (without endorsements). Computer nerds are getting laid off by the THOUSANDS, and telling their sob stories on Tiktok about being unemployed for a whole year.

When you say truck driving, do you mean OTR truck driving? I drive a truck locally for a company; I work 8 hours a day, and I'm home every night. The company that I work for is not a trucking company, they just need a commercial vehicle to make deliveries. I don't consider myself a trucker in any sense of the word.

I make 1400 dollars a week doing deliveries … which is more than I’ve made in my life, but at the same time I work 50-60+ hours a week so is it really worth it when I barely have time for myself

Trucking used to be a fun job for folks that didn’t want someone looking over their shoulder.. with the ELD and cameras looking at drivers and all the tracking going on, it’s taken a bad turn in my opinion.. miss the days of pure freedom of driving OTR… dot wasn’t as bad. We were the help on the highway.. things change and not always for the better but they do change

You definitely make good points. Lucky for me so to say I love trucking. I hate being annoyed and fridges made me crazy while flatbed thought me a lot. It's great window for immigrants but also many companies go cheap and drop ppl onto the road without proper discipline and training. Good money no doubt but if You are single You will most likely stay single, kids especially make it hard for my friends who are quitting both single oo after paying out their new trucks. I have a gf and a dog so we can travel together from time to time, just gotta find good job, doesn't have to pay the best but the one who cares for You and understands Your needs. We will definitely go oo, now in Canada but we started green cards application since we cane to conclusion that Canada is USA b**ch in many aspects and trucking as well🤭 I was lucky tho thx to my current company who hired me and helped with immigration, Ive been in 46 states, saw whole south Canada and gave me opportunity to get flatbed experience, oversize experience even thru entire Canada. I love N.America especially that transport/long-haul in Europe sucks, like rly rly is bad. Thx for coming back to us👍

@@bsar11 There are few companies that hire experience drivers but it cost 10k $ and takes 2-3y... But I can sit here do my thing and after few years I just get it, go work for them a year and Im all good. Experior is one all my friends go, eazy to check it, many YT videos about it.

All of these reasons are why I'm studying to be an accountant, I've been a truck driver for 2 years and I've just had enough, people keep saying there's better jobs, but I don't believe it because everywhere I go I'm working 3 times as hard but making less money. The only difference between companies really I've found is the color of the trucks, thats it, I've worked for mostly small companies and most of them I've found to be meat grinders where you are overworked, underpaid, and micro managed!

Idk what’s good or bad for you but the company I’m working for you can make $2000-$2500/week easy. They pay .64 CPM, $250 layover pay, and stop pay. Just drove 3400 miles last week and made an extra $200 for detention because I had to wait at a shipper. So far it’s the best company I’ve driven for

Regional, in Oregon, i dont believe any good jobs exist because I have people tell me what you just said and its ussually not true. I've in some cases worked 70 hours and got paid so little that I could barely afford rent. Im Gen Z and I dont know where older people get off, thinking im entitled for wanting to pay paid enough to eat and have a roof over my head! Some trucking jobs are the apidomy of the term "wage slavery".

Clutch yes, turbo no and it was the OEM turbo as well. I did not dog my truck when it was heavy and I tried to keep my boost under 20 PSI at all times.

Truckers need a nationwide union to tackle government and bogus laws along with the mistreatment of drivers. I drive for a local union outfit. I go home daily to my family and Make well over 100k annually and if I have a problem that can't be resolved I simply contact a union rep and go from there. Trucking isn't for everyone and neither is college. You either can tolerate it or not. But until truckers stand together as one, the job will have several unnecessary headaches

I did it for two years and quit cuz the lack of respect and them always taking advantage of me and no overtime pay and 70 hours every week is not sustainable for me and the countless lies they would tell me and them fucking up my paychecks and having to fight for them to correct it, you either live in the truck doing Otr and get fat and can’t walk or you do local do 70 hours a week and only have time to come home shower sleep and go right back to work

It's because 75% of truck drivers are foreigners who live overseas. I'm a truck driver I'm 26 I see nobody my age doing this job really. I saw nobody from my highschool even mention this career. It feels lonely and I feel like an outcast in society. the job is already shipped overseas but they all live here!! Or it's people who work for low pay and it ruins it for normal Americans. I'm looking into becoming a pilot. I'll do trucking for another yr or just before I go insane. I used to be insanely invested in athlrtics and somehow I let myself sit in a seat 🪑
