I met and chatted with him for about 15 minutes back in February in Thailand. I didn’t recognize him at first, just the ufc shirt he was wearing. He was a super nice and humble kid. I've said for a while that the UFC cannot tell guys how to fight... They know who they're signing and their fighting style before they sign them. But it is up to the UFC to cultivate the roster they need to deliver the kind of fights fans want to see. So if there is a fighter whose performances just don't deliver, then they have a right to cut that person, even if they're winning all of their fights. And if that person is a problem behind the scenes then it just makes it easier for them to cut that person. Though I think they should be direct with their reasoning... Because if it's MOSTLY that he's boring and fans don't engage with his fights then say that, as that could be a great motivator for every other wet blanket wrestler on the roster to let them know to step their game up.

It's not the first time. Damien Maia, Tyron Woodley, and many others have had issues with fighting where the entertainment industry wants the fighters to be more entertaining by staying active, but then there is the reality of being a fighter where there are lots of things, such as injuries and difficult opponents, that make it hard to always be consistant.

Release implies he did not complete his contract and contract was prematurely terminated. Early termination of contract or release of fighter does not imply negative behavior or business relationship ending on bad terms. Fighters that retire get released early if they retire prior to contract fulfillment. Early termination removes fighter obligations to compete and complete contract. However…. he DID complete his contract making him a free agent. UFC exercised their right to not resign or extend contract. UFC choosing not resign a free agent is not the same as releasing . The result is similar but the implication of how said result was achieved is perceived differently depending on the verbiage. Attention to detail critical when covering information.
