Andy Clarke, "... no replacement for displacement!" Apparently carmakers disagree. They care more about consumer demand for higher fuel efficiency, with government enforced penalties for not providing it, and durability only to the end of the warranty period. (Except maybe for Toyota on the second point.) They see turbochargers as the "replacement for displacement", and prefer having smaller displacement, higher stressed engines that won't last as long so people have to replace them sooner. It is no longer cost effective to replace a worn out engine, like it used to be "when I was a young mechanic". Those big, lazy V-8s that run forever just cut into new car sales for the carmakers and dealers.

@ArcoZakus4 жыл бұрын
Jeff Zekas, "... build V-8 engines .. under 3 Liters ..." I would love that, but it is not cost effective. A V-6 with the same displacement can give close enough to the same performance at a lower cost, so more people buy them than V-8s. Too few people are willing to pay extra for more power that they would rarely need, nor for the beautiful (IMO) sounds coming out the exhaust pipe. When cars all drive themselves, only we old dinosaurs will care what's under the hood (bonnet). :-(

I had no idea that everyone would be going crazy over this Lexus until I got it, but they do. I didn't realize that the V8 was such a rare engine these days, but it is. I love the sound and the feel of the engine, just something about it that nothing else can replace. I've never seen a smoother engine than this Lexus V-8.

Nour Eldin, Late one night driving down a nearly empty freeway I thought I heard my car starting to make a faint growling noise. Checked my mirror and saw headlights two lanes to the left of me closing at about double my speed (70+ mph). Whooosh--ROARRRR! One of those things blasted past, nearly sucking my little car into Its draft. Good thing I had a spare lane between us, because about a second or so later a second one did the same thing, chasing after the first. (I think the first was a Charger, followed by a Challenger, but couldn't be sure 'cause they went by so quickly.) Thrilling, but I couldn't help thinking how badly that could end. (Remembering photos of Nikki Catsouras'' crash) I hope if they ever do crash, they only kill or maim themselves, but it's just as likely that they'll take some innocent bystander (like me) out with them. I guess they're used to video games where crashing has no consequences. I think Dodge should include a voucher for some "free" (paid by the car buyer in the purchase price, whether they know it or not) track time and driver training with each of those cars they sell. Definitely dangerous to everyone else on public roads in the wrong hands.

When buying a radiator cap at autozone, make them test it for you before you buy it! My cap was running about a pound low, so I went to buy a new one at autozone. Their new caps, two in stock ran 3 and 5 pounds high.... This doesn't seem that bad, but with an old plastic intake manifold, that might just be enough to blow out the gasket etc... Most autozones carry a test kit in stock or can get one as a loaner tool, so it shouldn't cost you anything and it only takes 5 minutes to do the test.

@flinch6224 жыл бұрын
I don't think Toyota really ever got traction with the full size pickup crowd that wants/needs to tow alot. The old T100 was a flop - looked weird, and it had a v6. That just set a wrong tone, and besides: the Tundras look too much like a Dodge - big square front, and those people are not likely changing their buying habits anyway. What burns me is if you ever go try to rent a trailer to move with, they want a v8. They don't care about horsepower, gearing or whether or not the transmission is cooled properly - it's beyond the capacity of the kind of people likely to take those jobs to figure out.

I took the rubber gasket of my radiator capa on several of my cars. No pressure and they run perfectly fine. No 15-18 PSI on the components means no stress on the system. And we drive in 95F in traffic.

@Mark Codiroli isn't it rich when the ignorant and uneducated attempt to discredit the knowledgeable with name calling like a 5 year old? Toddlers call names while adults have discussions. I have four vehicles running no pressure, in summer, in traffic, and no problems at all. Not one. The only way one needs higher temps is if their engine runs hot. For my well-maintained cars, no issues. Have you ever tried it? Do you have the courage to do so? I'll bet not.

These twin turbo v6 motors don't even get better gas milage than v8s, I have a 2018 expedition with the 3.5L motor in it, it gets 12mpg city and 18 hwy (my experience) I also have a 2018 F150 with the 5.0 coyote, it gets 15 mpg city and 20 hwy all day long.
