Also Verstappen was slow because Alonso was in front of him. Russell's engineer informed him that Alonso and Verstappen were up ahead and George acknowledged that he saw the both of them. What Russell did was drive in to them intentionally.

It's utter bullshit this penalty. They are inventing penalties now. Clearly they didn't penalized the incident with George because the stewards stated that George had clear visibility of Max his car. Yesterday there where 17 drivers who ignored the "FIA Event Notes" and drove too slow in the warm-up lap to create a gap. None of these drivers got a penalty. In the past there where only given reprimands for driving too slow in the warm up lap. This is an utter joke. And he also got an penalty point for this and now he has already 6. I am steaming of anger right now!!!!!

Then hire a non-biased team of permanent stewards and train them in the rules and the rules only, no ambiguous nonsense and partiality. So if he gets a slap on the wrist every so often, I'm OK with it. Because when you can illegally push another driver off the track, NOT get punished for it, and then the stewards tell the opposing team they aren't even allowed to appeal, that's when the stpor I have loved for 40 years becomes something I have to wonder about, there is something wrong with said sport. Max had to slow down for Alonso in front of him. GR could see Max from miles away since there was wide visibility on that part of the track. No reason to storm right into the back of him and then dramatically whack the steering wheel left and right as if he was caught by surprise. Don't be ridiculous George !! As always in qualifying everyone speeds up and slows down to balance their Deltas, just as you did during that lap. BTW, onboard cameras are available to us as well as the car radios and I watched them. Your engineer told you " there will be a bit of bunching in sector 3 ... it would be nice if you could get in front of Alonso". Your engineer then told you that you had Verstappen & Alonso "on top of each other, except Alonso, he's pushed through". You accelerated very quickly to speed and flew up to Verstappen and scarred yourself and over-reacted late to Max's speed! Your left tires touched the gravel but that's all. You immediately responded to your engineer saying what sounds like ... except Alonso? as you passed Max. The engineer responded with Alonso's got a 5 second gap in front of him. Then George slows way down and says what sounds like .. super dangerous ?? Verstappen. That was pathetic George. George had plenty of time to see and deal with Max as he approached him from behind but seemed a bit distracted by his conversation with his engineer. Take some personal responsibility for your own actions, you're a grown man. It reminded me of a certain incident in Italy George had with Bottas where he swerved, put a tire on the grass and caused a major accident because he over-reacted. The grid position penalty to Verstappen is a travesty and shines a poor light on all of F1 and the FIA.

5:45. im getting a bit sick and tired of pundits pulling lewis up for what he said when there is CLEARLY something going on behind the curtains. right from the beginning of the year, everyone knew that lewis was leaving, though the reasons weren't as clear as to why he was going. now, of course, we all know that wolff had only offered lewis a one plus option contract, treating him like bottas in effect. so why is it not the fact he isnt fast enough but instead he is saying that the car has been built around russells driving style rather than a generic car mercedes have always built? and take it back to the end of 2022 when lewis voiced his opinion about what needed changing and was told to stay in his lane, until he was proven right! lewis is plenty fast enough, but when you are given an unpredictable car at the start of the year that takes MONTHS to fix, only for mercedes to then shift their focus to russell, (and yes, i understand why for anyone who might want to say something). but lewis brought mercedes far more points over the time he has been with them, but this is the way they treat him!

Mercedes granted Lewis the stats he has today. Mercedes' reign was baked in for as long as Mercedes managed to extract the bonus of having designed an engine for a ruleset they lobbied for in combination with a development freeze so others could not catch up. Lewis isn't a slow driver, but his stats are greatly inflated by having a rocketship car and following Rosberg's naughty departure a compliant teammate.

Max is very cunning. He knew just how to make Russell have to back off and ruin his tire prep lap. Max is no dummy, but Russell's complaint fell on receptive ears. If Max was not such a PITA he might have got away with it but he's POed too many people. He knew that Russell was the most likely to beat him to pole so he tried to improve his own chances. It almost worked.

Liar. Russell was kept up to date by his engineer and knew both Alonso and Verstappen were in front. Verstappen braked because Alonso braked and Russell proceeded to thunder into them.

I'm quiting next year payed F1 watching...no more about sports but politics. Former nobodies in comparison with Max like Johnny Herbert as racers or burned out (by age) peoples playing primadonas as stewards nowadays deciding who should win or not. Switching grid place between Russell and Max is bullshit, punishment invented by Connolly and Warwick. ( sorry for my poor english)

Max shouldnt have been on the racing line if he wasnt pushing. That said, i dont think it deserved a penalty.

@Franckiefresh George was pushing to warm his tyres up. It wasn't a hot lap, but he was clearly carrying speed. Max wasn't. That's the difference.

@Franckiefresh think about it logically. Why would you choose to be on the racing line if you're going as slow as verstappen was? If I understand your question correctly, it's built upon a presupposition that George and Max had equal right to be on the racing line because neither were on a hot lap. I disagree with that. My stance is that if you're driving slowly enough to impede another vehicle, you should be off line. Hot lap or not. Warm-up laps will always have cars at different speeds because drivers will warm their tyres differently. The slower cars should stay off line because the faster cars can follow only the racing line because it is the fastest line.

@@howarddavies136 yes, thats my point. Your stance is not unreasonable, its just a more general rule they could implement to avoid things like this. In this case I think it wasnt anyones fault really. Max saw Alonso going slower, looked behind and saw George. Thought, he is also on a slow lap, so we both have the same rights. He can see the same situation as I do so he will slow down as well. So all good. .. but than George didnt. So Max was stuck inbetween all of a sudden. Caught by surprise he got kinda sandwiched with no place to go.
