This is simply the best Newey can do & needs people like Max to even remain in top 3. Only reason Gasly isn't allowed back is cause he questioned Newey....Albon was a good boy who stayed quiet internally & externally which is why he stayed in that seat so long & wasn't made unemployed. Adrian Newey is good, but there's a dozen other Adrian Newey's who've done just a good job we never hear of. People overesitmate the Merc engine since 2014 & underestimated their wider package....which everyone now admits. I think a lot of what we see of Max Verstappen is down to his karting years and how Jos Verstappen handled it. - He didn't drive for a big team, no they build their kart themselves. That way Max learned every little aspect of the kart and how it influenced it on track. - Jos would "sabotage" the kart so Max had to adapt to it without knowing at first what was changed. - Jos always has been incredible harsh on any mistake made by Max. In such a way that no matter what a journalist or fan would say, Max has been through that with his dad before. There is for example this story of Jos kicking him out of the car at a petrol station in the middle of a foreign country and driving off after being to eager during a world championship race (not sure, might be a European championship). Or even when he won a race, but had a scrappy second lap, he got scolded for that one lap, not praised for the win. - The 100% commitment Jos had towards the karting carreer of Max set an example for Max to always give it his best and to never slack off. - Throughout his junior carreer Max was never given the best machinery and often placed in a field with more experience than he had, but he was still expected to win. Not a factory kart, a subtop F3 team despite having offers from top teams like Prema, not a singleseater debut in F4 but in F3 in a field where most had multiple years of single seater experience. Max doesn't know different than to punch above his weight. In short Max was born a talent, but Jos nurtured that talent and created a monster.

Thank you for a realistic description of Max's abilities. It makes a nice change. Another point regarding the "Red Bull only make cars for one driver" (it was the same thing during the Vettel/Webber years) is that they need both cars scoring as many points as possible each race. To concentrate on the one driver would be to effectively hand over the championship to the next best team (or just not take it to Mercedes) without having started the first race of the season. Max himself has been desperate for a driver who's capable of winning races in the other car, and he's been saying so for the last few years (and he doesn't care who it is), especially since Danny Ric left the team. So far he's been the only one who can beat him in a straight fight - and that was when Max was a rookie (his first 2-3 years were essentially his rookie years given how little he'd raced in cars not karts!) I'm sure he'd be happy to have Ricciardo back alongside him at any time. He's certainly not phased at the thought of Checo turning up. TBH, I'm more phased by it as despite his talent, Checo's shown himself to be prepared to deliberately take his own team mate out more than once. I truly hope he's not going to pull any stunts like that in an attempt to have a better score at the end of the year (I'm not convinced that he wouldn't though). Don't get me wrong, I think he's a good driver and deserves a chance in a top team. But he showed even last year that he doesn't always drive with his head rather than his heart (he was told to pull over - and he knew his engine had gone - ages before he actually stopped in flames in Bahrain. That must have cost the team an absolute bomb and he could have been laying oil down on the track, especially all around the corners he didn't pull in after getting round them. That was distinctly unprofessional and could have caused a major accident.) Could Max win a championship if his car was close enough to Lewis's? Absolutely. Will he get that car before Lewis retires? Unlikely. And with the engine supply problems, it doesn't look like he's going to get that decent car any time soon. Red Bull might even pull out of F1! Then he'd have to hope that a top team would have a seat available. Let's hope that the RB/Honda project comes up with the goods and Newey actually designs a decent, stable car for this year and so on. He's not the god people make him out to be. He can either design rocket ships or total clunkers.

Just like Ayrton Senna said, If he sees an opportunity, he goes for it. Yeah, he did make mistakes. What else would you expect from a 16 year old trying to catchup to world champions? But now he has learnt when to be aggressive and when to not. 3) He does not think or drive like other drivers. Just look at his over takes. He not just overtakes on the predictable parts of the track and when being overtaked, when most drivers give up and try to regain at the next overtake point. He just never lets them go and pushes it until the other driver gives up (most of the time). yeah, other drivers does this too some times. But, Verstappen does this almost all the time (with in the limit now a days). And why I think he drives so well it because of his amazing control over the car. Since, he has such a good control over it, he can push it harder.

@Silence Dogood aaaandd... This is how f1 elitism ruins the fun for everyone... First off nice of you to assume I’m just some kind of joker that doesn’t know what he’s talking about, you must have a pretty high opinion of yourself. I’ve been following every f1 race since 2007 and I have a channel dedicated to explaining different motorsport events using simracing as a support. I do more than enough research to know what I’m talking about when I say adaptability is at least partly responsible for a driver’s style. Granted at the level of f1 drivers the field is so competitive that differences between drivers are largely insignificant that why it was a freaking joke! I was poking fun at the channel that made the video because of their often exaggerated titles made to clickbate people into watching their content. That’s it no other hidden messages behind my comment. I’m not fanboying on Verstappen or calling him better than any other driver in fact. You just managed to interpret that thanks to your close-mindedness, congrats!
@BurkhartOfficial3 жыл бұрын
@Silence Dogood Hahaha I’m sorry but I’m starting to wonder if you’re the one joking around or if you’re really that far up your own backend. You try to teach me a lesson about close-mindedness while your first comment can be broken down to “only expert f1 fans have the right to ever comment or joke about f1”. But that’s beside the point, a bit like most of what just commented. Let me break it down once again maybe you’ll understand... The title says “Why Verstappen’s special driving style is a myth”. This implies there is no difference between his style and the average f1 driver. At 2:59 “the trait that is second nature to Verstappen” is discussed. Here his ability to adapt is stated and it’s explained how it’s a trait shared by all great drivers. My joke makes use of these seemingly contradictory statements from the channel to try and create comic relief (i.e. a joke). So once again, like stated before “it is just a joke”. Sure it’s not the best one I’ve made and it highly depends on interpretation of the title. Which can be interpreted in different ways before watching the video. And when you actually watch the video, like you pointed out, you actually realise the title points to other media sources that have linked Verstappen’s performance to a car that would better suit his own abilities. Which is indeed explained in great detail. I’m actually quite fond of “THE RACE”, I’m a subscriber to the channel and their journalistic work is top notch. If I have any complaint it’s their work on titles to bait the viewer in but sometimes creating a rather vague description to the video by doing so.

This is an old argument, going back to the time when one Michael Schumacher, you might have heard of him, literally outperformed his teammates at Benetton to the point of almost being in a different class. The reason? Schumacher liked a car that understeered in the front and was also very loose in the rear: the car was designed to drift naturally over all 4 wheels. Schumacher preferred that and could get the maximum performance out of that car, while his teammates struggled mightily and never got anywhere near Schumachers laptimes. The same goes for Verstappen: when Vettel won his 4 consecutive World Championships, the Red Bull was very "planted": the front turned in very crisply without understeering and the rear was also very stable. And the car stayed that way after Vettel left. When Verstappen joined Red Bull, his teammate Ricciardo could keep up with him reasonably well, but that changed quite a bit over the next seasons. Verstappen was able to set faster and faster laps with the car while Ricciardo fell more and more behind. So if the car wasn't designed more to Verstappen's liking, was it Ricciardo who actually got slower and slower? Not really, as Ricciardo proved when he moved from Red Bull to Renault. The Renault was argueably worse than the Red Bull but Ricciardo consistently outpaced his teammate, showing he was still on top of his game. And as all replacements of Ricciardo also struggled mightily to get consistent laptimes out of the car and never even got close to Verstappens laptimes, this leads to two possible conclusions: 1. Verstappen is way more talented than Ricciardo, Kvyatt, Gasly, Albon etc. 2. the car is designed for a specific driving style that suits Verstappen.
@Moonshine11473 жыл бұрын
@TJ Roelsma #2, is more likely: Just look at Gasly, after he was demoted in 2019, he not only was more consistent and put out faster laptimes than when he was at Red Bull, he also could match and or even outperform Albons Red Bull car (who at that point took over at Red Bull instead, a "supposedly" faster car than Toro Rosso)... PS: To make matters worse, that trend continued in 2020 as well.
@tjroelsma3 жыл бұрын
@@Moonshine1147 Yes, but as this video both dismisses Verstappens mythical driving style ánd that the Red Bull is being designed to fit his driving style, I left the choice open. For me Verstappen IS a very talented driver who, just like Alonso, always manages to get that little bit more out of a car, but not to the degree that he demolishes drivers like Ricciardo, Gasly etc. But for me it's also clear the Red Bul is designed to fit Verstappens driving style because said drivers just can't get the maximum out of that car. So while it's mostly #2, in my opinion there's also a bit of #1 in the equation.

Next video: Why two different cars for Vettel and Leclerc is a myth?
@FirstName693 жыл бұрын
Ferrari said it was different at some points. For example, Leclerc got new parts before Vettel.
@louiscypher41863 жыл бұрын
@@FirstName69 and that's completely normal in F1, it happens at every team every year. Restraints on costs, production times and testing restrictions means teams always roll out high tier upgrades one car at a time. This is usually only for 1-2 races as there is always the risk that what was designed does not translate to on track performance. So they need the second driver in the current spec kit in case it's backwards. This "at different times" excuse is trotted out far too often is done to intentionally distort the situation. The reality is Vettel is no longer the driver he was, Leclerc is better then him right now. So of course Leclerc is going to be the guinea pig. Nobody was complaining about Vettel getting upgrades first when he was winning his 4 world championships.
@anands55603 жыл бұрын
@@louiscypher4186 Exactly. Redbull favoured Vettel far more than Ferrari favouring Charles. In fact in 2019 Vettel was openly favoured compared to Charles. Only when Ferrari realised that Charles was faster than Seb, that they shifted priority to him.

Reason why the media is also to blame for Albon's failure (my thought, been observing him since he came to Redbull): At the start of the season, Albon was not at the top 4, the media was ranting about why he is bad. But in reality, Redbull was trying to judge him. He always overtook others and gained positions. But in most of the races, he was not in a position to be at the top, because, his pit stops were mostly not race winning intended. He was many times pitted 2-3 times, but he still made up places from where he was left. And everyone were complaining about Albon's "Bad" performance, when even Redbull itself didn't saying he did bad. And all that pressure may have made him over exert himself to the point of making a lot of mistakes.

@@sudharshanabhi Lewis matched peak Fernando Alonso (coming off of 2 championships) in his first ever season. I think lately he might have relaxed a bit because he knows Bottas can't match him, but having someone like Verstappen as a teammate would push him even further, because he thrives under pressure. As an example look at the 2018 season where he beat Vettel despite the Ferrari being marginally better. Lewis and Max would be immensely close, but I don't think either would 'destroy' the other.

@@badarkhan7471 Bruh don't compare Alonso with Hamilton! They were equal on points yes! But it was entire Mclaren against Alonso that season. The other seasons from 2010-13 he consistently beat Hamilton with a below average car. Alonso's racecraft is second to none! Max is close to him in that regards. Having said that, It's not fair to compare Hamilton to compare with the Spinmaster! Vettel was and will always remain an average driver! Hamilton is way better than Seb anyday! But the current grid Max is goddamn genius! I mean look at his teammates struggling. But I kinda get your point! I think Riccardo at redbull showed exactly that the redbull design philosophy produces a car that is uniquely competitive on the current F1 grid. Slower than the merc, sure, but the difficulty of controlling it means the car is just that much more agile. We saw Riccardo struggle especially in braking zones when he first got in the renault. The initial turn in the redbull cars offer is a force to be tamed, yet rewarding to a driver who can control it... a testament to Verstappen's skill imo.

From the first time Verstappen stepped into a kart he had the best coaching any driver has ever had and still does. It is similar to what Senna brought to F1 in terms of physical fitness no one was as fit as Senna and it showed. Senna was also relentless in his own training in driving and race craft. Verstappen is leaps and bounds ahead of any other driver in all aspects of a driver. His father has been an incredible aspect in his success and i feel should be mentioned more often. I still remember watching live as Jos went up in flames in the pits at the German GP. Afterwards he did not seem to be rattled at all like it was an every day occurrence, unbelievable.

The fact that Verstappen won the race in a Barcelona, with only 2 hours in the car is easily overlooked. During the race Ricciardo could not match his lap times nor his tyre management. The same counts for George Russel last season. Verstappen told he especially had to learn how changes in setup affected the handling, being used to the more difficult Torro Rosso.
