Victor's defense is his most valuable attribute for the NBA game in my opinion. His ability to block and effect shot attempts was on show throughout the minutes he played in Summer League and having a 7'3, mobile, shot blocking defensive anchor is a precious asset from day one and that's regardless of how well his offensive game will translate to his rookie year in the NBA. Offensively I think he needs to adjust to the physicality of the league, but that undoubtedly will come too and the regular season will likely be similar to his two Summer League games, some where he'll have off shooting nights and some where he'll look like the game-changing prodigy fans expect. But his defensive impact will be seen through Game 1 to 82 and that's where we're going to see how special he is during his rookie year.

@Anthonydu01630 Жыл бұрын
@@YungPhilosopherIts a part of it, but rim protection, meaning not only blocking shots but altering/contesting shots is still the most important thing for a defense because the highest % are still at the rim. And not only Victor is a GOAT shot blocker, but he is also a high IQ player with good positioning and the best thing about him, just like AD is that he don’t foul a lot, he is always composed, and like AD he can also guard perimeter players and blocks 3’s, and we saw what AD did in the playoffs, he was the reason they made the WCF this season and im a Lebron fan, AD had 1 of the best defensive run ever, lead the playoffs in blocks and rebounds and was just everywhere, and Wemby will have this type of impact, and im talking about this season, at the end of this season he could be a better defender than AD, even if the IQ isn’t as high right now, he is so tall, lenghty, agile and quick that he could be better especially if he has good and smart defender around him like AD had this season with LBJ, Vanderbilt, Rui, Shroder or even Austin, and i think Sochan is a very good PF to pair with Wemby, he can guard 1-5, isn’t very skilled offensively unlike Wemby so he can make screens and do the dirty work for him, and they are both from Europe so i think we will see a good connection between these 2.

Not even close. Zion is 6’6 and 285, play PF and is considered a big so why Lebron isn’t ? Lebron is heavier or was heavier at some point than Gobert, Giannis, AD, Dwight, Mcgee, and these are heavy guys already, because then you have the Mobley, Claxton, Mo Bamba, Siakam, Vanderbilt, Wood ect. Lebron is literally the size of Karl Malone or Bam Adebayo (A Center in todays game), Lebron is a big !!! Same for KD imo, 6’11 240 i don’t care if he play like a guard and break ankles with his longass crossover he is a big man, KD played PF with the Warriors, the NETS and now with the SUNS, so why he isn’t a big ? What are the criteria for being a big ? Being able to protect the rim on defense ? Lebron is a better rim protector than Jokic so Jokic isn’t a big ? Or maybe not having great handles like the guards ? So Giannis, Embiid or AD aren’t bigs ? What’s the criteria ? For me Lebron and KD are bigs, and they dominated the last 15 years.

Most times they show potential in the lower leagues. He is 27 percent from 3. He has one option. If he can become a good shooter he will always get his shoot due to his height. The good, the bad and the ugly about Wemby is evident before he plays a real game. The good is that he'll be fine offensively. He has plenty of room to grow and there isnt anything that you have to break down and rebuild. As coach points out, his posture is a little off sometimes but it looks to me like he's doing that to keep his dribble as low to the ground as he can. I don't think we're really going to see a ton of him doing Kyrie type stuff like that but it's great that he has that package in his game. NBA coaches like to trim a lot of fat out of rookies' playstyles, and I think this is one area where the Spurs will say, "we're just gonna let the guards do most of that". He'll still have plenty of opportunities on face ups, attacking out of the triple threat and transitions to pull it out though. Defensively he'll have an adjustment period as he adapts to the NBA game, but he looks like he'll be fine there. He has quick hands and good hand-eye coordination already and even though this is summer league, you can already see how he gets his hands on jumpers even though he has given more than enough space for guys to get shots off. He surprised a lot of players with that already. The bad is that there's not much else there in San Antonio around him yet. There will be more to come for sure, but I'm expecting San Antonio to not rush things and not have him out there trying to one-man wrecking ball the league as a rookie. They'll want to bring him along slow and methodically and the way the media works, he's going to have a lot of doubters and haters when he doesnt come out tossing out 30pt/20rb/10ast/10blk games like the hype is already expecting. And that ties into the ugly, which is the hype. The media situation is going to get real old real fast. He will never live up to the hype and expectations because they're higher than any human will ever attain. Nothing will ever be good enough. 60 win season? With that roster? Come on. 30ppg? Record setting triple doubles on a nightly basis? Even if he did it, which he just wont, it wont be enough for the hype train. And the biggest ugly is the cloud of injury worry hanging overhead. Of all of the big men over seven feet tall the game has seen, only Kareem has had longevity and he had his injuries too. People talk about him getting stronger and putting on weight, which will only slow him down and put more stress on his body, increasing some specific injury risks. And he will eventually lose the youthful athleticism and quickness, even without injuries and he will have to adapt to that like everyone else of any size. We are all going to be holding our breath at every awkward fall or bump, and let's face it now: he is GOING to get injured. Nobody goes unscathed. And the first serious injury is going to have a billion I told you so's everywhere.

I pray he stays healthy and running for at least the first 5 years of his career so that learning curve doesn’t get abruptly stopped. That's crucial for him reaching his ceiling. After a certain age massive growth to your game just doesn't happen as much.
@21Kolb Жыл бұрын
his game needs to be built around finesse. Don't take too long to back down in the post. Get to your spot and get the shot up. You're too tall for anyone down there.

2 games and people are judging him so much ... after the 1st game " he's a bust!!". After the 2nd "he'll be the GOAT"... Stop making vids about him, let him live pls. He's 19 years old, let the young man grow... All of what people is doing is dangerous.

his 4 games under NBA rules he has scored 37, 36, 9, 27. Maybe not the biggest sample size but they have been pretty impressive outings.

I feel Spurs wanted to see how he would fit into an offense centered around him playing fluctuating minutes. His 2nd game having 27, 12, and 3 on 9/13 in 27 minutes was all they needed to see. Hell thrive with NBA spacing. That’s why they shut him down. Pop is smart. He’ll be ready come the start of the season.

Thanks coach for mentioning/noticing how he s doesn't hesitate to use his left hand. Also you re correct, he puts his head too forward at times when he dribbles.

Thats because he is a freaking giant, if he dribble with his head up like a normal player they will steal the ball easily from him because his dribble will be higher, even smaller guys like KD/Giannis or even Lebron have to get lower when they drive/handle the ball

You said the best rebounders don’t box out. Makes sense that that would boost the individuals stats but does it help or hurt the team overall?

Luka is a lot quicker & stronger. Wemby is a lot longer. Don't think Wemby can Guard Luka, but he could probably shoot over Luka, although I don't think him taking a jumper with a hand in his face is all that great of a shot.

@@arnoldd9664I disagree. I think it’s the exact opposite. He needs some mass. He seems to have muscle, just not enough of it at all. He falls down awkwardly a lot. That worries me, but who knows?

@@rrpostalagain Some mass don’t have to be too much because having a lot of muscle mass on a 7’4 body is also dangerous. But I see where you coming from.

IMO, Wemby needs to reinvent his game. The potential is there, He just need to master the art of post moves & skyhook shot which will be unstoppable & unblockable. He doesn't need to be face up type player like KD, He doesn't need yo shoot a lot of 3s' but can shoot if needed, Just take the ball to the post or like Duncan's famous jab step fake and bank shot this would be easier and highly efficient plays for a player his size and length.
@musket_mcgee Жыл бұрын
Nope. Nobody NEEDS to do the sky hook since no one even does it to begin with.

Nah he should be exactly like KD. Imagine the mismatch when a slow-footed center is guarding a mobile, 7'5 who can pull up from 30. Madness.

He should be exactly like KD. Why would he skyhook
@Anthonydu01630 Жыл бұрын
Wemby should watch Jokic, Hakeem, Embiid and Duncan for post moves, taking advantage of your big body ect without being sped up, he should watch David Robinson, also Embiid and KD for his face up game and Jokic, AD, Draymond, Sabonis, Bam ect for his playmaking, screen setting and off ball movements, and also AD for his defense, his positioning, communication, timing ect … Wemby should be a mix of all these players, doesn’t mean he will be better but he will probably be the most versatile big, and maybe most versatile player ever but it will be tough to surpass Lebron in this category lol, in his prime Lebron was a Top 3 scorer, playmaker and defender, and sometimes he was the best at 2 things, either scoring and defense like in Miami, or scoring and playmaking like in his 2nd stint with the CAVS and even his first 2 years with LA.

Some of the issues i see with the media or just people in general. Is that they want to compare him to durant as he is now. But durant had his own issues when he entered the league. Like dribbling, especially around guards. He got much better with time though. Wenby is 19 and does have some flaws in his game but the good thing is that they are things that can be fixed with time and experience.

I wouuld keep being physical with Wemby by bumping him, post up, push, foul, and always contact him until he puts on weight. He will be good but i give him 5-7 years and he is gone. Unless they make him a gaurd on offense.
