Just a correction: Voldemort couldn't have thought that far. In the final battle, Harry told him that he was the master of the Elder Wand and he didn't care. He tried to kill him with it any way. Also, the Killing Curse requires skill and nerve and extreme concentration but also the DETERMINATION to kill. It doesn't require hate to be cast. Snape casted the Killing Curse on Dumbledore even though he liked him because he knew he had to do it and was determined to. In the end, I think it was more of a plot convenience for Harry to learn the truth.

I think the main reason, from Voldemort's perspective, is that from the moment he realized that it didn't work for him as he expected, Voldemort didn't want to risk the Elder Wand to weaken even further until he would fight Harry. At least from the movie's perspective the Elder Wand was damaged after Voldemort used it in anger to break the magical shield surrounding Hogwarts. This may have been the moment Voldemort secured his definitive defeat, because Harry planned to let him use it on his enemy's terms anyway, not knowing that Harry wouldn't die. The only real defense he had left was Nagini, who was still alive after Voldemort destroyed the piece of his own soul inside Harry.

The answer is actually right there in the books, he didn't use the elder wand because he knew it's allegiance was to another, he believed it was allied to Snape who killed Dumbledore, so he knew that if he tried to use the killing curse it would either not work, or rebound hence his use of Nagini instead. His mistake (one of many) was that he truly believed that the wand's allegiance was to the one who killed it's former master, in his warped view of the world the only way to defeat someone was to kill them, so he never could accept the fact that the act of simply disarming an opponent could cause the wands allegiance to change which is why he didn't believe when Harry told him at the end that HARRY was the true master of the wand, and is why Harry's Expelliramus worked against his Avada Kedavra, and why he used Nagini to kill Snape. Because the wand would not, could not kill it's master

The green-blue thing just seems to be a color grading choice in the scene. The Avada Kedavra cast on Harry, when Harry came to die to Voldemort was somewhat blue also. So was the Avada Kedavra cast by Voldemort against Dumbledore in the Ministry duel. It is implied to be green in those scenes, but in different shots, it is blue. It's more like an incidental, visual environmental thing, or an intentional color grade of that particular scene. It's vivid green color seems is emphasized in some scenes more than others.

If he had to mean it to cast the curse... Snape meant it for Dumbledore because he was begged to. He did it out of love for Dumbledore. I think Voldemort didn't want to mean it. But he couldn't have meant to cause him harm because of the respect and he couldn't have been doing to help like snape did for Dumbledore.

two points: 1. I think it's very dynamic and tragically symbolic that Voldemort actually slits Snape's throat before he leaves Nagini to kill him (in the movies, not sure if it's the same in the book) because to do this he most likely used Semptem Sempra, a spell that cuts the victim in the pattern of the wand movement, which is a spell Snape made up. He used his own spell to kill him. and 2. Voldemort actually uses loads of methods to kill people. to create his Horcruxes, only 4/7 of the people were killed with the killing curse. Myrtle was killed using the basilisk, hepzibah smith was killed using poison, Florean was abducted so we don't know how they were killed and bertha jorkins' mind and body had been completely destroyed first before he used the killing curse on her.

Plot convenience And Voldy is a masterful Legillimens(wrong spelling ik): he can tell if someone lies but can't sense people. As Quirrel, he could read right in to young 11 year old Harry's mind. In the Goblet of Fire, Riddle hissed at the muggle caretaker, Frank, "Don't lie to Lord Voldemort!" but Riddle wouldn't have known of his prescence if it wasn't for Nagini. He isn't an expert of sensing people's presence, he can only read minds. He only managed to find Gregorovitch after looking day in and out with nothing(no school, job, etc) occupying him. Riddle didn't want to intrude Harry's mind after OoTP(Dumbledore said so in the book) because Harry's pure, loving soul agonised him. Riddle's anger was also building up when talking to Snape(in the books) so he was occupied thinking about Snape and the Elder Wand instead of the possibility of someone hiding. He is also arrogant and so doesn't think of anyone outplaying him. Btw I'm as lost as anyone but I'm just trying to think of reasons justifying this so yeah...lol

Nigini was part of Voldemort. He implanted a piece of his soul into her, so if she killed the owner of the elder wand it would still belong to Voldemort. Like if you chopped your arm off, somehow kept it alive, and ordered it to strangle someone. Weird but practically the same thing.

This was something I had wondered over myself. The wand argument could be avoided by Voldemort simply taking another wand and kill Snape with that, but the intent argument was quite good. It might be the reason. But couldn't he have used another curse of some kind? It's a quite risky thing to use Nagini, who is another person altogether. If the wand's true aliance is to the person that killed its previous master, wouldn't that have made Nagini the master of the Elder wand (if Snape had been the true master, that is)?
@semir9112 Жыл бұрын
I think the intent part doesn't make sense either. Snape killed Dumbledore and ending Dumbledore's suffering and fulfilling their plan was enough to kill Dumbledore and Voldemort who barely had a soul, never showed any compunction ever and who wanted to be the master of the Elder Wand and take over the world didn't have the intent to kill Snape?
@ceciliacarlid6113 Жыл бұрын
@@semir9112 Yes, but Voldemort didn't know that part about Dumbledore. Btw, wouldn't it have been an interesting plot twist if the wand HAD been loyal to Snape ... Since Nagini killed Snape and Neville killed Nagini, that would mean NEVILLE would have been the true master - the could-have-been Boy Who Lived as the final undefeated master instead of Harry 😉

It’s possible Voldemort was concerned that if he used the killing curse on Snape while (he believed) Snape was the Elder Wand’s true “master”….. having learned from the night he killed Harry’s parents where an unexpected but powerful magic effect caused his own killing curse to rebound and kill his body….. It’s possible not knowing what and the extent of the possible effect/consequences of using the most powerful wand known to Wizardkind, to kill its master by means of the killing curse… Voldemort choose to play it safe and kill Snape another way that way there was no chance of some unknown side effect which could potentially result in his killing curse rebounding and affecting him again. I know this is a stretch but I believe having been essentially unstoppable during his first reign of terror only to have some completely unpredictable side effect while he attempted to kill via the killing curse stopping him in his tracks and suffer bodiless for years…. That he wouldn’t risk using the killing curse in a manner that has any unknown variable and risk something similar happening… especially when he has numerous other means of killing willing any risk.
@MrTmm97 Жыл бұрын
I never considered this till I saw your video but I feel this is an equally solid explanation of him choosing to kill Snape in a manner other than using the killing curse or the Elder Wand in general. I am very curious as to everyone else’s thoughts on my potential explanation.

I think there is a MASSIVE flaw in logic with this theory. Voldie assumed Snape is the master for killing Dumbledore, but how did Dumbledore become the master? It couldn't have been from killing Grindelwald as he and the user before him lived. So why, why did Voldemort decide to kill Snape, who he highly valued, if he KNEW there must be an alternative to gaining the wands allegiance with the previous holders being literal living examples?
