A practical example on why to wait: my cousin was getting married in three months. He called yesterday to tell us he had broken off the engagement and was no longer on speaking terms with his now ex-fiancée. You just never know
@lizcristina18647 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, an engagement can be broken off, but once you're married, that person can cheat on you, hurt you, or decide they don't want to be married to you anymore. I guess that idea always freaks me out; you can never get away from the possibility of being left. How do you deal with that, especially in the context of saving yourself for marriage?
@brunaanfruns89707 жыл бұрын
Liz Cristina yeah i understand your point, but I guess that if we looked at it this way, we could never have sex😂😂 and when you get married and you are crazy inlove with your wife/hubby, you don't think about whats going to happen some years later. Well this is what i think❤ hope it helped!

Great video! Relating to your first point: I was engaged to someone, things planned etc. And we ended the engagement after 6 months. As it turns out, 2 years later and I am now getting married in November this year, to the same person. But, I am soooo thankful that through all that, we have chosen to wait until marriage. I just imagine the mess we would have been in if we had sex at any other point. So excited for November, and thank you for this video as it puts into words how I feel about it (and other people ask me this question too!)

I have seen many weddings but I got emotional when you were talking about your vows. I think I just got the significance of them.

I've never heard the engagement period described as a period of discernment but oh my gosh that's so true and im glad you've introduced this concept to me! The engagement serves a very real, very important, and very spiritual purpose. Thank you for this new perspective!

Thank you for this! My mom always told me that up until the moment that I say "I do", I have the opportunity to back out. Engagement is a really fun and exciting time preparing for the future, but it's also stressful and carries a lot of weight because you have to search your heart to see if this is truly someone you can commit to for the rest of your life.

Wow! So good! So well explained! Marriage is a covenant that is made that "no man can separate" and there is a covering given by God that if you choose to have sex outside of it, you and your relationship with that person are more vulnerable to the enemy. My dad is a pastor and has counseled many couples he said he has heard SO many people say "We wish we would have waited." and has never heard anyone say "I'm sad we waited for marriage."

Love this! One of my good friends has the mindset of 'once we are engaged we know we will be together forever so it is fine', but I have told her the same thing you have shared: an engagement can be broken. Best not to take the risk of having sex during engagement for it to end and be heartbroken! Thank you for your honest and well-spoken videos on such important topics!

Thank you!! Many people from where I live believe they are married just because they live together or because they have children together. Also, LOVE when you say, "that the man who promises his life to me is the only man worth giving all of myself too".

always love these discussions and videos! waiting until marriage and waiting while engaged now :) one good thing I am enjoying while waiting in engagement is being able to handle the new expectations we all have emotionally once you get engaged because they do change from your relationship. My fiance and I have said recently through premarital counseling thank God we are still waiting because spiritual and emotional security gets to have a solid foundation that will be a great harvest for our marriage
@margaretgraber90597 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for sharing this, it really makes that clear and I totally agree! Can you do a video talking about whether you think a person should save their first kiss for the wedding day and whether you did? All my married christian siblings have saved their kiss but something I was thinking about recently is wondering whether I would actually want to have my first kiss, a very special moment, in front of tons of people watching me and my future husband. At the same time I do not want to give my first kiss at all lightly and I never want to kiss anyone other than my future husband. What are your thoughts? Thanks again for inspiring me continually!

Miss Margaret Ann I'm not Emily but :) I think that's a great idea. It's not required but it's a more foolproof thing to do because once you kiss you might feel that it became a bit harder to cope with desires and you're just closer to that line. It's easier to stay "angelic pure than 50% pure". But if a kiss helps you express that you love and care for each other and deepens your relationships it might be a good thing. Everyone decides for themselves.:)

Yes!! I would only add that marriage is a Holy, spiritual bonding of two souls and that God intended sex to take place only within the sanctity of that bond, for the reasons discussed in this video :)

Good video Emily! Also, marriage is a covenant and you are only permitted to have sex inside of that covenant. God doesn't ordain that covenant or that person to be your spouse until you actually marry them

Excellent job of emphasizing the importance of vows. I would add that marriage is a covenant relationship, and it's really interesting if you research the way that covenants were entered into in Old Testament times in the Hebrew culture. There are some close parallels to what happens during sex. I believe sex and the way that our bodies participate in it were actually designed as a reminder of our covenant relationship with our spouse. There's more to it, too, in terms of the way the Temple was designed, but that's probably more than enough for one post.

One more thing: sex before marriage is a sin. It's preferably not to introduce any type of sin into your relationship so it would be built on a firmer foundation.

While I totally understand and agree with you and I personally have chosen to wait for marriage, I have to say that I know 110% that this man is the one I am going to marry!! There is NO WAY we would ever not get married unless some natural disaster stopped us or something but I know even that won't happen because God put us together and God Himself wants us to be married! There is No Way either my fiancee or I could ever THINK about being with someone else either. When you know you know. That's how we feel.

Hi Emily! I've been saving myself for marriage my whole life. I never really ask my fiance about his sex life before he was commited to me, and now that I am engaged I am getting curious about it but afraid to open a discussion about it. I love him but this issue has been on my mind for a while now. Deep down in my heart I always want to be his only one, but I am afraid his answers would not be the one as I intended. Can you help me figure out the solution? Thanks a lot :)
@emwilss6 жыл бұрын
The solution - challenging though it is - is to bring this up ASAP. This is something that is absolutely crucial to talk about, ESPECIALLY before you get married.

In other words, man and woman aren't husband and wife till they're husband and wife. Although I do see plenty of people acting like they're married. Shacking up, living together, etc. I expect this of the world, but not of Christians, yet I see plenty of them living it up like they're married. Then they split 27 minutes later.

Hi Emily! I love your channel & look forward to your videos!! I do have a question for you about saving yourself for marriage. Let’s say you have this conversation with your boyfriend and he says it’s fine with him but maybe 3 months later he wants to talk about it again to see if you have or will change your mind. My question is why would a guy tell you it’s fine and then a couple months later try to get you to change your mind?
@emwilss6 жыл бұрын
This is something that happens all. the. time. Guys think a girl will change her mind, he can wear her down, etc., and some realize that this is not the case and her mind is not going to change - then start pushing the issue. I am considering making a video on it - stay tuned! If he keeps pushing the issue, let him go!
