I never understood why people gave Hayden such a hard time, the guy did a superb job of depicting Anakin, who was pretty much an emotional, confusing mess of a person. Sure he has some cheesy one liners, but that 's just his character... not the actor. The actor did a great job

Alexis B Weird. One time in high school my freshman year I got in a fight with a sophomore and I was laughing during the fight and after. I was laughing while he was hitting me in the face too. He got scared, thought I was crazy, and eventually ran away because to him it seemed like I wasn’t getting hurt at all. Honestly though the only reason why I laughed is because I genuinely thought the whole situation was funny with how it happened and who he is. He was taking the whole thing seriously and I wasn’t even mad going into the fight. And I actually wasn’t getting hurt. It was either he had super weak punches, I got hit multiple times in the face by the way, or I had so much adrenaline running through me that I didn’t feel anything. I didn’t feel anything after the fight either. And remember I don’t even like to fight, so I definitely wasn’t laughing because of the fight in general.

Plus Palpatine feared Qui Gon because he would have easily been able to sense the Chancellor’s presence as a double agent Sith Lord thus commanding Darth Maul to assassinate him so he can not only influence Anakin at an early age but also disguise his presence under the Jedi’s noses, it wasn’t until the war against General Grievous that they felt fishiness with Palpatine.

What struck me more than him crying at that point, was when he was slaughtering the separatist council in the control room, he was wailing. I don’t think that was rage. I came back here after a re-watching, many actually, long after, and wanted to share my thoughts. I think it is like an emotional symbolism. Not the now current Lord Vader crying over his actions or his turn to the dark and no going back. But the small remnants of Anakin still trapped inside, a pure heart and will. One that has now become surrounded, enshrouded, enslaved by the dark, the dark which has now become Lord Darth Vader. The good sliver of him left afterword, only after being ensnared by the Dark Side, has Anakin (the Good Side) fully realized just how much he failed. How much he failed "The Prophecy", failed the Jedi, the Republic, Padame, his Master Obi-Wan, even Himself. A symbolism which would give greater effect and impact to the confrontation with his son, Luke, at the end of Return of the Jedi. To hear his OWN SON say: "I feel the GOOD in you... the CONFLICT...". Something HE himself thought had been long dead over countless years, yet all that time, was STILL struggling to break free, free from the Dark that once may have gave him great power... but, at the cost of becoming consumed and swallowed up by it. Much like an unholy thing came from the shadows and took his body and controlled his actions, while his true side continued to fight for his freedom throughout the long dark years. While the Vader of him, torn and bound by eternal duty to his Dark Master, responded with: "There IS... NO... Conflict...". The Anakin trapped deep down within, in great pain and suffering STILL, over all that happened, his failures, what he had done, what he had become, was STILL screaming out from the pits of the cold, and the dark... at the sight of his SON... screaming: ""SAVE ME... !"

Deckard 163, you are truly right, the amount of ridicule the prequel trilogy gets is beyond insanity! People who point out flaws in the acting, are mostly people who just look for a reason to gripe about the movie. But it is the story and the emotion that counts, and no other film in the history of cinema has received this much information on a single trilogy. Well done defending your honor, and may the force be with you.

Anakin and Vader are two sides of the same coin. Vader could not have existed if Anakin had never been born, and Anakin had felt traces of Vader all of his life, but particularly during those times when Anakin was feeling powerful negitive emotions. Just as Vader could not fully destroy Anakin, so too could Anakin never remove Vader.
@richardched60857 жыл бұрын
I_boole 663 he often mentioned his Vader personality as "The Dragon" in reference to the Krayt Dragon on Tatooine. He always had multiple personality disorder. In Episode III he regressed to his Episode II mentality due to Padme being pregnant and his visions. This could also be why his personality in the Clone Wars Series was drastically different and more pleasant than in 2 and 3.

I was always quite surprised at his crying. I always thought he was sorry about how he turned and the killing of all the Jedi masters. I always knew the Anakin was not entirely gone. There was always good in him.
@titanwarrior637 жыл бұрын
He was crying because of great confusion that tormented him. If you put yourself in Anakin's place, the Jedi never trusted him even when he was a child, the vision of his mother's death came to pass, which he blames Obi-Wan and the Jedi because of their ridiculous Jedi code of taking the babies from their families (yes they do this. They didn't want to train Anakin because he was "too old") If they had let him see his mother to begin with and stop forcing these Jedi to abandon their humanity which is impossible to do, there would rarely be any Sith. Then he started having the same dreams about his wife dying, which he was determined not to let that happen. He couldn't get help from the Jedi, Yoda told him to let go of everything he fears to lose. But how can you just do that to your wife? I guess that's why they teach Jedi not to love, but how do you ignore and absolutely abandon something that's a natura humanl emotion? Anakin showed his struggle of this in Episode 2 Attack of the Clones. That would drive anybody insane. Obi-Wan couldn't even ignore these emotions in his one-on-one duel with Darth Maul. Also, you're right, Padme even told Obi-Wan there was still good in him before she died. The hardest fight is with yourself, and Anakin fought with himself ALOT throughout all 6 movies. It pretty much drove him mad.

Anakin always had a part of Vader in him, before he "officially" was turned. Even back when he was a child, u can sense his bold and rash ways and his years as a padawan learner he always had a aggressive and un-jedi like way of dealing with things and his emotions. Vader was always in him, was just mostly dormant. And thus when he actually did turn and become Vader, he still always had a bit of Anakin in him, which now, was the side that became dormant within him.
@Amakusa90007 жыл бұрын
I believe the Dark Side is like a drug, and users are like addicts. Vader says something interesting in ROTJ: "You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master." He is not saying the Dark Side makes one powerful. He is saying the Dark Side has imprisoned him--that now he has no free will left, that he is actually a slave to the Dark Side. Only the latent love he has for his son--and maybe all the decades of guilt and remorse that built up since he turned--allowed Anakin to in the end break that power and kill the Emperor. So to me Darth Vader is Anakin on crack, always looking for that next high, and having no will left in the matter--until his son showed him the way.

Amakusa9000 Well yeah he had to obey Darth Sidious or die. When he cut off Mace Windu's arm, and heard the words "Unlimited Power" from Palpatine, Anakin clearly says "What have I done?" he messed up. At that point he had two ultimatums, he either fight Palpatine and die, or submit to him and become his apprentice. Well, you know what he chose, even though he hated it. If Anakin had defeated Obi-Wan on Mustafar, he would have been strong enough to kill Chancellor Palpatine, but he failed, and 30% of his power was cut. And yes the prophecy is right, Anakin is the one who would bring balance to the force, which means getting rid of both extremist sides. Can't kill off one side and leave the other, that's unbalanced. And thanks to his son Luke for not giving up on him even after Obi-Wan and Yoda wanted Luke to kill his own father (because those two still didn't forgive Anakin for basically destroying the Jedi order) Anakin finally did what he was born to do by tossing Sidious in the reactor core. That's what he meant when he told Luke this, he had no choice (or so he strongly believed)
@ekweseman7 жыл бұрын
No doubt Darth Vader ceased to exist and became Anakin Skywalker once again after defeating Emperor Palpatine in ROTJ at the cost of his own life by Palpatine's Force Lightning. Once Anakin Skywalker died at peace with himself, He became One with The Force and was reunited with Obi-wan Kenobi and Yoda. I'm sure they forgave him (for his past crimes such as destroying the Jedi Order) after redeeming himself by turning against The Dark Side and bringing balance to The Force, all thanks to his son Luke Skywalker whom showed him the path back to The Light Side. Luke Skywalker is Anakin Skywalker's savior and successor to the Jedi Order which Luke rebuilds in the future.
@jugginator43907 жыл бұрын
It is actually. If you notice most of the very very powerful sith Lords were very disfigured, the more they tapped into the dark the more it destroyed them. If you notice Palpatine was so drunk and high on his "dark side binge" while shock torturing Luke, he never noticed Vader watching in conflict and walking up to him to grab and stop him. He couldn't even stop shooting lightning while he was being carried and thrown down.

I believe Anakin's tears was his acknowledgement of the unforeseen consequences of embracing his anger and hatred, and ending his struggle with his conflicting emotions. Perhaps he felt himself shift in a manner he didn't anticipate on. Add to that the combination of seeing Mustafar's surroundings in a perfect semblance of what embracing his negative aspects have unleashed, and at that moment fully realizing just what he had now become. It meant that he was losing dominance over his exist, and that Vader's surfacing meant the roles of emotional conflict would be reversed. He felt the nature of the dark side wouldn't be nearly as conflicted with emotions of light affinity, whereas Anakin's struggle with dark emotions was very real. He dreamt of being a protector and a great Jedi Master as Anakin, but as Vader he wanted to rule. However, if there wasn't at least a grain of Anakin in Vader, we would never have seen Vader save his son.

He was crying because of the conflict within. Being Vader he was still Anakin. He new what he had done and knew that it he could never come back from it. He made his decision and I think he wept for the life he now left behind. You have to remember that it is not unlikely that he had friends at the Jedi temple, people he grew up with. Vader could never get rid of anikan but you have to think, a young boy poured his heart out to become a Jedi, even the killing of his mom made him taste the dark side, he still wanted justice. Going through the motions of him growing up he learned the jedi wasn't what he thought it was. He was clearly confused and obviously let down by the order. He "fell" to the dark side due to the lack of support from the jedi order. He chased a dream that was never there but he cried because he was letting young anikan die. It's the same feeling you get when your parents divorce (when your older) & you think back...everything was perfect...then as an adult you start to realize everything wasn't ok & there was a problem but you were too young to understand what was going on

That scene had many visual metaphors in it. His staring at the sun being blotted out by the fire and smoke of Mustaphar, symbolized the light (Anakin) slipping into the darkness (Vader). The tear, the last vestiges of goodness, humanity, love, compassion, friendship, innocence and mercy burnt to a cinder inside a shell of a man that is now filled with hate, lust, envy, greed, intolerance, murder and pain. The eyes, on the precipice between good and evil, moving closer to a edge that he will not be able to come back from. His face, you see the anguish, the guilt of all the lives he has taken. What he did to get to this point. Even when he was dying in front of Obi One you could see fear and sadness in his face before hate finally grabs his soul.
