@josealopez234 жыл бұрын
His athleticism was supposed to be enough to make him a solid player for the Cavs franchise. The Cavs were reaching with Bennett, he wasnt a guaranteed solid player, he was more of a wildcard type, he was projected to he a 7th pick or later lottery pick at most. Oladipo and otto potter were looked as more of a guaranteed good player. Waiters was the reason why they didnt pick Oladipo, but imagine Kryie, Oladipo and Lebron playing together that was be crazy good. Even otto Potter made more sense a solid 3 and D wing which they could have needed.

Not sure how old you are, I'm 33. So I was like 25-26 at the time. I still very vividly remember the Anthony Bennett hype, 6 months before the draft it felt like a foregone conclusion that the Cavs would be taking Anthony Bennett first overall. I was surprised when you said you couldn't find any indicators online that would suggest that the sports/media world had formed any sort of concensus about Bennett's long term prospects. I honestly think that all of the editorials and mocks that were published leading up to the draft that year were edited or straight up removed from the internet. You so wrong on this video. Let me give you guys the scoop of what happened. 1.Nerlens Noel was the top prospect but wasn't franchise changing type of talent and tore his ACL at Kentucky. 2. The previous draft the Cavs had drafted Dion Waiters in 2012. He had a solid rookie season. Waiters' inner circle told the Cavaliers not draft another SG. So drafting Ben McLemore and Victor Oladipo would have instantly hurt team chemistry. 3. Anthony Bennett got hurt his Freshman year at UNLV. He had to have surgery on his left rotator cuff. He was out for 4 months. He was also diagnosed with sleep apnea that same summer. 4. He started his rookie season 30lbs over weight. (being unable to workout from off season surgery) coming off injury, and with no summer league and minutes restriction in preseason. 5. If you watch the 2014 summer league and some of his 2nd year Timberwolves highlights he showed some potential. 6. This past season he and Ben McLemore had try outs for the Houston Rockets. He hurt his knee in the previous G League season. 7. I personally believed it was the perfect storm of conditions for him to turn into a bust.

@CHA-dn5yx4 жыл бұрын
Rubio and Curry would be interesting
@eggeggeggeggeggeggeggegg4 жыл бұрын
Easy answer. They were both higher rated prospects than Curry. Rubio needed to spend another two years overseas playing for FC Barcelona so they drafted another PG. Khan was also interested in running a 2 point guard system when Rubio entered the league. Obviously in hindsight this was was terrible terrible mistake, but the logic behind both picks were actually okay. Flynn had a very solid rookie season before his career ended early due to injuries.
@Ghostkilla7734 жыл бұрын
If anything if they just picked Rubio and played Curry at SG it could've worked
@eggeggeggeggeggeggeggegg4 жыл бұрын
@@Ghostkilla773 Exactly right. But like I said, we say this with hindsight. Nobody thought Curry was better than Flynn coming out of the draft. Everyone was wrong.
@eggeggeggeggeggeggeggegg4 жыл бұрын
@@travishix4859 Many people knew Curry was a great prospect yes, but in 2009 he was viewed as an undersized SG who wouldn't be able to hang with the bigger guards in the NBA. Playing for a smaller school against 'poor' Southern Conference competition also weighed big on his draft report. The league was very different in 2009 and that weighed into everyones prospect rankings. If he was drafted in 2020 he is the 1st pick. Curry, Lillard and McCollum have really made a huge impact on the thought process behind drafting guys that are dominating at smaller schools.

I just had a look at all of the mock drafts I could find for the 2013 draft. The Consensus number 1 pick was Nerlens Noel, then Alex Len and then there was one that picked Ben McLemore and aswell even Bennett. Surprisingly I couldn't find one that had Oladipo taken at pick 1 and Bennett did generally have the biggest draft range out of those four.

I get they had drafted Waiters the year before but they could of traded him or made him their 6th man. It would have been really interesting to see Kyrie and Oladipo together in the backcourt. That could have been special. Though maybe it would have been a disaster like when Oladipo was paired with Westbrook. LeBron, Kyrie, Love, and Oladipo could have all been together. @@flamingored960 nah he can’t put himself in the same category as a 6’8” athlete. Bron got shit you can’t teach when you talk about his physical prowess. However, just because he can’t carry as much as Lebron does not mean he has not mastered his craft and skill as well as anyone who has ever played. It’s funny you try to compare Bron and Kyrie. I mostly bring up this point when comparing Kyrie to the other PG’s like Lillard and Curry. But no one can carry a team like Bron and that shouldn’t be a knock on them, but on the other side of the same coin, nobody can close quite like Kyrie. Skill wise, Kyrie is in the ranks with the best of the best in the history of the game. Don’t compare apples to oranges tho.
