As a young girl playing this game, growing up in an unhappy household this was my ultimate escape. This game means more to me than I can summarise in words. I idolised yuna who was strong, brave and kind. She was feminine in nature and I really felt like I could relate to her and look up to a character like that. 15 years later it is still one of my favourite games and one of the best soundtracks I have ever listened to.

Its funny, I idolized Tidus as a kid. A father that seemed to pay no mind to his child leaving him behind in a world by himself. The only input being poking at the flaws of that child who was begging for love. Growing up to shake off the shadow left by his father but still lost in a sea of insecurity. To find solace in friends and your own will to be better. Lucky for Tidus he got the opportunity to say what needed to be said to his father before he passes, unlike me who'll never get the opportunity to say what's been on my mind for the last 16 years of my life.

I'm the same, I loved Yuna! She's one of my favorite characters and I really idolized her. I loved her femininity yet epicness. I've been thinking about buying it again on the Switch to re-live old memories. I remember as a kid getting a poster of her included in the game case and I hung it up on my wall and dreamed of cosplaying her lol...... Ok perhaps I still want to cosplay her lol. I'll probably buy it again whenever I can afford the $60 or however much it costs.

The cutscenes in this game were the first time I felt like gaming took a huge leap forward graphically. It was like watching a movie, which was something you did not see in games back then. The music brings you into the game from the very start. The game had massive depth in terms of speccing and general content. The story was immersive as hell, all in all there was no part of the game that felt rushed or lacking.
@tcrpgfan5 жыл бұрын
Someone has clearly never played a Metal Gear game. Kojima has such a good sense for and obvious love of cinematic storytelling that, as admittedly crazy and weird his concepts are, he could've easily become a great filmmaker if he didn't decide last minute in college to switch to game development.
@BobGnarley.5 жыл бұрын
@@tcrpgfan Whilst Metal Gear and Sons of liberty were exceptional nostalgic games, the cutscenes didn't come close in terms of cinematic quality. They were janky at best which is what you would expect in that time period. Metal Gear was great because of the actual gameplay not the cinematics or graphics.
@tcrpgfan5 жыл бұрын
@@BobGnarley. Dude, MGS2 ran at a consistent 60 fps, saying it's janky looking is a lie. On top of that, all the cutscenes were done in real-time with fully voiced dialogue, had extensive motion capture work, and on top of that small touches from the animation staff. FFX doesn't do that very much. And while MGS3 had fewer frames at 30 fps, it's a far more aesthetically pleasing game to look at and features cinematography that's far better than FFX, which mostly relies on fairly standard shots for most of its storytelling run.
@tcrpgfan5 жыл бұрын
I've played both the original and HD remaster all the way through, and nearly 100% the latter. If there is one negative thing to say gameplay-wise, it's that nearly all the sidequests in the game are completely backended and can't really be found until near the end of the game. And all the frustrations with those sidequests can be summed up with one number: 0.0. So yeah, I've played the game. I also know about the quality of the in-game cutscene models being playstation 1.5 levels absolute shit when they weren't focusing on the faces of the characters. I just know MGS2 looked better because it did not pull that shit nearly as often.

The pilgrimage feels like a real odyssey. The narrative is impeccable. Not a single character is wasted. Each personality plays a critical role in immersing the player deeper into what's at stake. It knows when to take its time. The visuals were gorgeous when they came out. No other game was interspersed so consistently with such cinematic visuals. The gameplay cements the immersion and the soundtrack is the bullet in the back of the head. All credit on the downfall to Nomura who always want death at the end. See FF type-0 and FFXV where almost all the main characters died and on a lesser extent FFXIII. HE IS A SHAKESPEARE wannabe but definitely it shows that he cannot pull it off. I am sure most people doesn't fantasize about death. Also square should not have made anymore FF after Sakaguchi left, without his guidance they are just crap. Don't use Kingdom hearts here as it was Disney's IP not square.

Jendl Irlandez For FFXV, Nomura created the characters, then handed over the project to Tabata, who created the story. Tabata killed them. And again with FFX, Nomura just created the characters. Sakaguchi killed them in the story. Nomura created almost all the lore of Kingdom Hearts, not Disney. The only thing Disney really did was loan out their characters. And as far as Nomura’s talent as a character creator, I’d say he’s been more successful than most people even dream of. People are obsessed with his characters. Especially his original characters in Kingdom Hearts. If you’ve ever noticed the motifs between all his characters, you’d know he’s more obsessed with “the power of friendship” than with death.

Easily in the top-3 of best video games ever made. Story-telling wise, this is levels above what is written in books and shown on TV nowadays. The moment you find out Sin is your father, the moment you find out that you aren't real, it changes everything. No more hope, no more dreams, and a bright future, but the imminent feeling of impending doom and certain death. That moment where you, as the player have to pick up the controller again, not only because the world needs you, but you feel so connected with everyone around you, that you're doing it for them, no longer for yourself. You've gone from hot-shot arrogant and selfish kid to someone that HAS to make a sacrifice, it's a learning experience for many teens and tweens that picked this game up after its release. X-2 was, like getting a post-card from an old friend that you haven't heard from in a while, especially after he had some huge problems in his life, and the developers knew what the game needed, not the same as X, but still enjoyable to revisit the world.

I didn't know it was a meme until years later. All of my friends I played this game with understood why it was in the game. It was definitely funny as a pre-teen but with how much sadness there is and Yuna's impending death, it makes so much sense. Tidus just wants to make Yuna happy and wants to save her from her fate.
@KnownAsKenji5 жыл бұрын
At the very least, never played the game a second time. It's got the classic twist effect like in movies such as The Sixth Sense and Book of Eli, when you know the twist is coming, you re-evaluate every scene the second time through, and in this case the writers did keep in mind what will end up happening. Took some years for it to become a meme, actually. I think FFXII had us that bored, we had to snark on old FFs instead.

Not many games of today can accomplish as strong of an emotional connection with its characters as this game did. I am 28 now, outside of being under 5 years old I’ve cried 3 times. When my first dog died, when my grandparents died, and the ending scene of FFX. I replayed FFX remastered last year and it still gets me. The sound track is engraved into my brain as I have been through the story no less than 20 times since it first was released. My playthrough of FFXV had the entire FFX soundtrack on repeat. Perhaps it is more of my age range that would agree this is among the best games of all time, the younger generation of today weren’t able to experience this masterpiece in the right timeframe.

The fact that you've only cried 3 times in your life up until the age of 28 isn't really a testament to FFX's "amazing" character arcs and development, world building, or whatever; it's much more likely a testament to how sheltered of a human being you are lol. That you'd even attribute the amount of times you've cried to FFX is just plain ridiculous.

Every time I play through this game I prepare for tears. I think I replayed X at least 15-20 times and FFX-2 about 6 or so times through before remaster was released. My daughter (then 14} brought along the FFX sound track on a long car trip. During that trip I listened to Uematsu and was surprised at the high quality of the music. I started watching my daughter play the game. Then I decided to play myself. It was the story that carried me through. I was surprised at how quickly a player could connect with the characters and the storyline. It was an amazing experience that I still cherish. Btw. Square was already on the map since Final Fantasy 6. When they dropped FF7 it had a commercial on TV, which was pretty rare, no FF games had ever had commercials in the US until that one. Then they dropped FF8 with crazy graphics at the time, and then took it to a retro-futuristic RPG style with FF9 and crowned it off with FFX, before they went all Muse and got weird before coming back to FF15.
@animekid19365 жыл бұрын
Seph Vernon, If it weren’t for FFX and Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix wouldn’t be as big as they are today. Final Fantasy X helped perfect the formula that we have today, and Kingdom Hearts allowed Square to garner a larger Western audience with the help of Disney. Though I wouldn’t say FFX is the best Final Fantasy, I would say it kept Square in the game as it’s competitors Capcom and Konami were making Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Silent Hill 2. So yes, FFX and Kingdom Hearts put Square back on the map.

FF10 was one of the best and certainly the last FF in my opinion. Just because one scene is taken insanely out of context, which is actually meant to be awkward, does not undermine the whole game. It had one the best stories along with some of the best characters and arguably the best music, it had great strategic gameplay; the sphere grid system was top-notch. It got 92 on metacritic same as FF6 and FF7, that puts it on their same level. The only minor downside was that it was a bit linear which some people didn’t like, but that meant it told a much better story. If you prefer gameplay over story in JRPGs then you need to think where your priorities lie. I hope your taste in video games gets better if you dislike this game. FF10 bleeds with emotion, it’s a tragic tale that’s fits the tone of the end of Squaresoft, it feels quite symbolic in fact.

even with the linearity you still had the 99chest omega ruins, the monster arena, ultimate weapons, then the extra bosses in the international or HD remake.

Mi Ke FF12 didn’t have that good of a story compared with the previous Final Fantasy games, the story started off really good but then just declined from there. That being said I think the game had great world design, UI and the gameplay was fun. I think FF12 had the potential to be a great Final Fantasy game, if its original creator/director Yasumi Matsuno wasnt royally fucked over by Square Enix some time into its development. Matsuno is an excellent story teller and director who worked on Vagrant Story and the FF Tactics games back in the Squaresoft days. I have no doubt he would’ve made an excellent game, a worthy successor to Final Fantasy X. He wanted a more mature protagonist, I think it was going to be Basch or Balthier at first, but the execs at the top of Square Enix forced him to put younger characters in the game (Vaan and Penelope) to appeal to a younger audience. Hence, why they have no real purpose in the game. After messing with his vision and falling ill and also feeling very distraught about Sakaguchi and the original FF12 team leaving the company, he decided to leave. Even the creator of Final Fantasy Hironobu Sakaguchi himself said he could not play the game after 30 minutes in or a few hours in (don’t remember), because of what happened behind the scenes to the director and the game itself. Just backs up and provides the evidence why the start was so good and then it tailed off, because that was the part Matsuno worked on. I think it’s a sub par Final Fantasy game with huge wasted potential.

You spelled FF9 wrong. FF10 is not FF You have to have a world map to be FF.

10's linearity wasn't exactly a problem. It threw side quests and hidden treasures often enough to keep it interesting. And then once you got the air ship a lot more discoveries (granted, it wasn't like flying around a map and finding a spot going "huh, I wonder what's here"). 10's linearity was necessary to GRADUALLY explain the world until a point where doing your own thing couldn't hurt the process of narration. Something 13 failed to do (where it threw all the info at you at once and hoped you'd understand and forgive that it still was a stupidly thought out storyline.)

Final Fantasy X is my absolute favorite video game of all time. In sickness and in health, there is always Final Fantasy X for me. Ever since I first played and beat the game in 2004, it has been my favorite to the very day I type this. The reason is that absolutely no other game I have played has had me SO enthralled or SO enveloped into playing it. When I played it, I felt like I actually was Tidus and I was going through this amazing yet unknown and uncharted territory for me. The characters all had distinct personalities, were well-defined yet none of them felt out of place compared to the other, and the development of those characters as the story progressed was amazing. The story line albeit very somber and sad was very enticing and kept me wanting to play more, to learn more and explore more. Again I believe the fact that Tidus not knowing the world he was in and the occasional commentary he would do helped filter everything we as the player may have felt, which helped progress the story at the right tempo (instead of us as the player being chucked into this new world that's already established with no real in-game feel through a character and is almost expected of you to know everything before you ever enter it I.E. Final Fantasy XV) The game wasn't too wild and crazy. It was easy to get into and learn, yet took a while someone to truly master. Simplicity works as long as there's enough going on that keeps it from being boring. The game drove you to want to go further, to learn more about the world and the story, to watch these characters develop and see what would happen next. Everything in this game because of it's relative simplicity was well-executed (minus some of the voice acting lol) and nothing felt out of place. I know I have rambled here, but I love this game just about as much as life itself. Because I played this game at a young age, it's pretty much been in or around more than half of my life to this point. So Final Fantasy X IS life for me. Great video :]

I got this game the day it came out and played it ridiculously long hours but reminds me so much of a good time in my life, and where I once lived. This game was a classic just as much as 7 and 8 had such an aura about the game you literally felt like it was part of you

Final Fantasy X is a masterpiece. While I enjoyed and got a lot out of playing ffx2 as well and I’m glad they made it, I can see why not everybody would. I think some players at the time, including myself, couldn’t handle or accept the idea of the main character disappearing at the end and being, for all intents and purposes, a dream. I think squaresoft were trying to teach the player about life and how life *isn’t* fair, life is precious, short and finite, most people don’t get what it is they really want out of life and tragedy never fails to strike at the worst possible time.

I'm a rare specimen that loved X-2. Sure it definitely wasn't as good as X but it was still really enjoyable. I enjoyed the happier story that still had some dramatic moments. Like when Yuna had to fight the Aeons and it was like she had to fight her pets or friends. Then there was the 1000 words part which is possibly the best part of the entire FFX series imo

Nothing really feels like FF after X, except for World of Final Fantasy, it felt like classic FF as far as gameplay and story (even with the stacking/pokemon aspect). The series is kinda dead to me as far as the mainline games go, I have to go for Bravely Default or Octopath Traveler for that feeling.

No doubt, FFX is my most favorite game. I got to know it when i was little, moved to a new country where i am still living and where i met this guy who became my best friend. My life changed radically and i kind of felt like Tidus in this whole new world. I remember us playing it secretly all night long at our sleepovers, the desperation when we tried to win the first blitzball game... Eventually we lost contact, when my family had to move to another city because of my parents workplaces. But FFX still reminds me of him and of those good times we had. And it keeps reminding me that everything can come to an end. Life is about changes, suffering, making sacrifices and enjoing those rare moments of true happiness. When i was jounger i loved the crazy story twists (even the love story although i didn't like girls much at that age ^.^) cool grafics and mechanics of the game. Now that i'm older i came to realize what lessons this game has to offer and i love it even more. Never stopped, never will stop listening to this beautiful soundtrack.

When I played FFXII for the first time on PS2, I hated it. It changed so much and the gameplay was so repetitive and and the story so boring and so on. Turns out, if the loading times are faster and you can fast forward the gameplay and just see the result of your gambit stuff instead of slogging through all that yourself, the game not only becomes more fun, but the story also becomes way more interesting. When I finished FFXII The Zodiac Age a few months ago and saw the ending again, I became really sad and thought "This was the last good Final Fantasy".

The whole game is a backwards version of Christianity. Think about it. Sin is the punishment for Spiras wrong doing, the only way to break it is with a person sacrifice (Jesus). Sin turns out to be controlled by Yu yevon (God), and that sacrifice becomes the next sin. All while the people of spira pray to their Yu Yevon. It's a perfect example of Japan's contempt for Christianity and religion in general

I’ve put probably over 350 hours into this game over the years and I don’t think I ever actually beat Sin. I don’t think I ever finished it. In fact, I think the only final fantasy game I ever played through to the end was XV. It’s because they all (since at least VII) allow and even encourage you to go do some more grinding or go find everything you can find before fighting the final boss. I always wander off and try and find all the secrets and level to the max and then a new game comes out or I just start playing something else and forget about final fantasy. Then a few years later, I go back to the game, but I usually start over to get the full feeling of the story, and do it all over again. Play to the last boss and never finish it. Lol.

I actually did the same thing with both Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X. I started playing them when I was very young, I think I was 10 and 11 respectively. I got to the last boss in both but I didn't finish it. Partly because I loved them so much I didn't want it to end, but also, as you say, because there was more to do. I didn't feel like leaving anything unexplored. Then a few years back, after doing the same thing over and over again every other year, I finally decided to actually finish it at all cost! I played through them both 13 years after starting for the first time and I finished them. And it was amazing. I wouldn't even want to have it any other way, because when I finally got to the end I was back. I was 10 years old again and experienced my favourite video games that has shaped me so much as a person for the first time again. It gave me a feeling of nostalgia and I will never be close to for the rest of my life.
