Before my father passed away when i was a child ffvii and ffviii were the last two games me and him would sit and play together everyday after school. I was about 7 years old then and i remember one day my dad must have been playing for awhile and i suppose he forgot to save because well.. i was playing around and unplugged the playstation andddd.. lets just say i didnt get to have any fun for a few days after that 😅.. so for me final fantasy 7. And the final fantasy games altogether are one of the few vivid memories i have left of me and my father and that makes it hold a special place in my heart and ill always feel a certain closeness to him even though he's gone everytime i play them.

The last gift my grandfather bought me was a Playstation 1 with Final fantasy 7, 8 & 9. He watched me play them everyday as he battled cancer and would love the stories so much so that he had me rush through the games at low levels so he could continue the story faster especially when Ariel died. My first experience of this game was when I went over to a friends to shoot his new air gun rifle. I went upto his room and he was playing this new game he bought called "final fantasy 7", to be honest I didn't like the name but watched him finish up what he was doing. My first image was the menu screen and he was equipping characters and selecting which materia to use. At this point I was memorized solely by the pictures of the characters, all the different choices of what you could do in the menu, and then as simple as it sounds, the bleeps when selecting and going back... after about an hour of purely in the menu came the first battle...! Wow, my world had changed. I then jumped on my BMX and peddled my heart out to get back home and gather my car washing equipment. I then spent the weekend washing cars to make enough to go out (on a school day) to buy my copy. I then tragically came down with a "flu" and spent the week exploring the world of Final Fantasy 7. Great, great times.

That's an amazing story! For me it was my mom's boyfriend. I watched him play it for weeks. I tried myself, but couldn't read. So I learned how to read just so I could play it! I definitely played that game more than was healthy! Started at age 7 on the PC and finally beat it on PlayStation at age 12. By the time I beat it I already had FF8 - 10, but 7 was the most important to me still.

When you scroll through the comments and see so many people sharing memories about the game, it really shows you the power this game had. I was 16 when it came out and I remember wanting a PlayStation for this very game. There was so much hype with this game coming out, almost equal to the hype of the remake. Which probably makes it even bigger for the time since the internet wasn't buzzing with social media. I think a lot of that hype carried over in our nostalgia for FF7. It holds so many good memories for gamers and mix that with the time period of gaming also being such a memorable time with the transition of 3D games, you have this combustible feeling of amazing mind blowing joy. It is like FF7 is a time capsule for that feeling.

At first I thought it was some kind of background aesthetic but oh boy was I wrong. The moment it bolted at me and initiated a battle, a huge Snake was fighting me. Seeing how it towers over Cloud and Co. I knew this was not a battle I was meant to win at lower levels. So I had to plan my way around the snake and reach my destination. Not to mention that cutscenes when you cross the marsh/desert where you see the same snake impaled into a tree and how the party mentions that it was Sephiroth's doing. As a kid I thought, "Dam... When the day finally came, I had the game and console... but I forgot to buy a memory card too. It was a few weeks until my birthday, so I actually played the first couple of hours over and over and over again (even leaving my system on overnight to try and stretch how far I could go without saving; usually around Wall Market being my max). The whole vibe of the gaming industry was at it's pinnacle of pure art, from the images of the many video game magazines, to the advertisement, it was as good as it was ever going to get for an industry that was still a subculture. Like it was only for us gamers. The mystery and discovery and sense of underground was amazing during the transition from snes to ps1 and it also shows and is reflected in ff7 for it's time. Truly truly so ahead of it's time in terms of artwork. A pure pure masterpiece as it's ever going to be.

Back in 97 I was 16 and had a job and a PlayStation so I bought FF7. It was the first game I played that really pulled me in emotionally and I couldn’t stop playing it. I still have it and the receipt from where I bought it. Now I’m in my 40s and I haven’t had a lot of time to really game like I used to BUT after finding out that the “remake” is a three part series, I recently bought a PS5 Slim and I’m about to both relive that awesome experience when I was a teenager and enjoy a new adventure as a man. This one is coming full circle for me!

One of my favourite parts of the game was the camera and static backgrounds while walking around. They were so gorgeous. So detailed. It made the world feel more real, almost as if it existed whether you played the game or not. The far away pans while your tiny little character walked through the frame, the scale of it all. Along with the music. It was perfect.

I think the transition from spending 6 hours in Midgar, thinking the entirety of game was set there, then leaving and being on the world map and realising there is a whole world to explore was amazing. It blew my mind when I was 10 (I'm 32 now). It really felt I was on an adventure. The amazing story helped. The only gaming experience that has come close to that since for me was leaving vault 101 in fallout 3.

When FF7 was released I cut grass in the neighborhood I grew up in and saved all my money from that and from chores so I could buy a PS1 and get Resident Evil and FF7. I only had enough for the PS1 and one games so I chose FF7 over RE1 because my friend had RE1 so I could just borrow his. The thing is...I didn’t realize I would need a memory card to save so I had to leave my game on all the time or I would lose my progress. After a week and a half I was able o buy a memory card but not before my dad came in and saw I left my PlayStation on. I was on disk two😢😭. It sucked, however playing through disk one again was great and I needed up playing that game at least 10 more times over the next few years. A ten minute video does no justice to this great game! If you read this and haven’t played it. Do yourself a favor and play through this amazing story. As a side note I would also highly recommend Final Fantasy 9. It has a great love story.

@okebel3280 Жыл бұрын
Dealing with loss is what FF6 is all about. FF7 is the story of Japan's before WW2 (Shinra is the japanese government, Turks are the Yakuza) mixed with a religious hybrid of Christianity and Shinto. Mako is a direct parallel to nuclear energy and meteor is the atomic bomb. Aerith is Jesus and Sephiroth is the devil. He is litterally modeled after the description of the devil in the bible.

In addition it included a mini strategy guide for the first mission, I followed it and picked up the gameplay mechanics. I'd never played a JRPG but was highly impressed, immersed and had to continually see what happens next, the story, environments, characters never ceased to be interesting... 65 hours later I was convinced I'd just completed the greatest game of all time!

@@michaelzaragoza942 it gets better, the demo barely scratches the surface of all the possibilities, remember how many stuff you could do with materia combinations? You have it here too, and it's beautiful. And you can also upgrade weapons, they don't get obsolete as you get the next one (not for a while at least), every weapons is good at something. If you don't want to deal with too many stuff like the upgrades, you can let the game upgrade stuff for you by setting your preference, like focusing on attack, defense, or a balanced combination of those. My only complain with the game is some low texture stuff in some areas, while others look hella HD, guess that's an Unreal4 issue since this is not the first game suffering of texture issues on that engine. To be honest, this game is even more tactical that the old turn based game, Hard mode takes that even further, I love to make enemies sleep due to the time advantage it gives, on the contrary, I barely used that on the OG game.
