@@rathertiredofthemess2841 Charles Spencer is neither a gentleman nor an artist. Althorp was in financial trouble when Prince Charles was conned into marrying Diana Spencer by her and her opportunistic family. She then cut her family dead by varying degrees. Charles Spencer was at Kensington Palace stealing armloads of Diana's dresses while Prince Charles and the Spencer sisters were collecting her body. He later exhibited them at Althorp and abroad. He wanted her buried there for a tourist attraction and he writes books about his ancestors to keep a roof over his head. His latest will hopefully make enough to finally put a fresh coat of paint on the main house.

In the Elizabethan era red hair was considered more beautiful than any other colour. Since I first discovered this rarely aesthetic mane and the fine brain beneath it I'm inclined to endorse that view. As for the occasional lapse into rhotacism which is certainly not an affectation I consider it endearing and a contributing factor to the sheer pleasure of listening to this utterly charming presenter who, if English history were as dead as certain other topics are - which it isn't - she would revivify it instantly by the fervour with which she shares her learning. .

My question is under James how did he manage to rule day to day because even though there was a union between the English and Scottish crowns to my knowledge there wouldn’t be a official political settlement until the action of union under the Hanoverians. So basically he was king of two separate and independent states with separate courts and separate parliaments.

Charles Spencer, interests me with his steady way, his depth, and his aurora of ethics and integrity. He has always been of mature mind, which offers a further insight with regards to Princess Diana, William, and *my personal favorite of the "Royals of England and Great Britain - "Harry!"* Harry, a Passionate, determined, and "expieriencing in living of life, with continued gaining of a clarity of perspectives on real - a sort of, my idea of a Modern King Arthur, a natural Royalty that is born Royal, regardless of human lineage." William will make a great King, due to his natural responsibility traits, Harry is already a great King, in his person. *Both truly influenced by Spencer genes and Diana's Parenting in their formative years.*

The problem with the Catholics was that they were as intolerant of other religions. They tortured people and burned them alive and had a strict hierarchical system that subjugated populations like Islam subjugates populations today. In a world where thoughts of freedom had taken root, Catholicism was an anachronism, 1300 years behind the times of the 17th century, just like Islam is 1300 years behind the times of today.

The Glorious Revolution that deposed James II brought the English a Dutch king, William III, and he brought along with him the knowhow for ships, cannon, finance, far-flung trade. This made the English golden age possible, which lasted from about 1700 till 1940. It was a clever move by the English: if you can't fight them, join them. This is what they did. They did it in such a clever way that the Dutch faded away in history and the English become a world-dominant power, controlling 25% of all lands and populations. Of course, English long for the old days of yore. Till this day, the English at large have not come to terms with the new reality that they have become a second rate country, after USA, China and Japan, and, soon, after India and the EU. This is an extremely hard grind, especially for people born in families the trust funds of which hail back to exploits in the glorious old hay days, viz. people like Jacob RM, Boris J, and their ilk.

Jonathan King that’s not the same though, that’s a lisp. This isn’t a lisp. it’s mostly interesting to me because British English is generally non-rhotic and America English is rhotic. So, British English leads one to be less likely to pronounce r anyway, so it’s interesting I’ve found more British people have problems pronouncing r (but it’s totally anecdotal and I might be completely wrong).
