Im around around halfway through the campaign and am impressed, with this reboot, and its level of immersion. When i first played og modern warfare i was impressed with how immersive that was, and this game brings back that old nostalgia. The only annoying aspect is needing, numerous different, hidden add ons to even play this single player campaign. I recently bought an xbox one S, and thought, i could cut corners by not downloading multiplayer, and spec ops add ons. I only play for single player campaigns, and i very nearly threw in the towel, and sold my copy, because of the aggravating, egregious bullshit, to even enjoy the campaign. Its honestly sad coming to the realization that newer players only know of online play, and have never experienced COD campaigns. Activision could have made this easier but instead, opted to complicate things to line their pockets from online microtransactions. It feels like a huge middle finger to us older COD fans.

I was hyped when, in the first trailer, I saw what appeared to be one of the buildings at Bin Laden’s compound. Turns out I wasn’t wrong. I understand that players used the raid in “Zero Dark Thirty” as their guide for how to approach the first part of “The Wolf’s Den.” That’s how they knew to shoot through the doors.

Although I loved MW2019s campaign, it wasn’t perfect. All of it was great except the way it forced players to do things and then pretend it’s a choice. For example, when you are interrogating the butcher, the game acts like it’s your choice whether you want to kill the hostages but it forces you to leave them. There a few other moments like this but other than that I loved every part of it. Somehow, with less features than MW2022 it still has more variety. Great campaign, 9/10.

I disagree. I can appreciate that they tried new things but a lot of the ideas introduced in the game don't flow well with the gameplay. The nuke sequence in COD 4 and the infamous No Russian mission in MW2 were so effective because they brilliantly subverted familliar FPS tropes. Badass marines aren't supposed to die in nuke blasts, and good guys don't kill innocent civillians en masse. Nothing in MW2019 was anywhere near as compelling. Being forced to endure waterboarding or watch Farah's dad be brutally killed by a Soviet soldier was just dull and gratuitous. It didn't shock me or make me reflect on the nature of war. Also, the game wants to make a statement about the true horrors of modern war but presents us with a completely fictionalized and nonsensical take on real world events (using fictional middle eastern countries to stand in for real ones and presenting the Americans as the good guys, conveniently downplaying their own history of conflict and brutality in the middle east in favor of Russian aggression) and most of the characters are hollow cliches. Gaz, the idealistic rookie who finds his own morals challenged. Alex, the disillusioned agent who's tired of following orders and wants to fight for something real. Farah, the spunky badass freedom fighter who spouts platitudes instead of saying anything profound. I've seen these characters time and time again before and none of their stories were particularly interesting. The story was marginally better than MW2 2022, but that's not saying much since that game is 90% fanservice.
